Buddy boating (ESP ‘sailing’ and or ‘racing’ [Every sailor knows, that WHENEVER two yachts are within sight of one another and heading in the same general direction - IT’S A RACE!!!]) is always such a pleasurable thing and also very comforting too! LOVE IT!!! :-)
It has been a privilege to follow you guys along your journey. Uma is looking better and better as you take care of your home. Following along from the first days of refitting this boat and seeing how far you have traveled is quite amazing.
Great production guys. And this time I really noticed the audio, the background sounds - the ambience and feel of the conditions, movement of the boat...love that. Thanks for sharing your thoughts...generally, you nailed it ha ha!
Yes. You two are crazy amazing! What over reaching optimism to buy a boat most of us would say was ready for the boat bone yard. To fix it into a sea worthy vessel and then continue forward and go out adventuring into the wild blue-sea yonder!!!!! WOW!
Hi Dan & Kika. My wife Debbie and I just finished this season, we started watching a few months ago. That was a great voyage through all the islands and countries. We learned quite a bit about all of the places you visited. It was inspiring to watch your adventures and we decided we should support you on Patreon as thanks for all the great content. You have a good mix of information and adventure as well as your down to earth personalities. We are fellow sailors although we started at a different point in life. We got our first boat in 2020 and didn't really plan much beyond having a boat where we could do an occasional overnight. We could have sailed one of the larger lakes in eastern upstate NY but ended up in the mid-Hudson River. That opened up cruising possibilities and we started doing trips when our work schedules permitted - we do have a couch! We did some trips in 2021 and culminated in a 2022 with a 2 week trip around Long Island. Like you we found we prefer anchoring or mooring over a marina. Watching Uma's adventures this winter is inspiring us to think of more of our own. Our boat is a 1989 Pearson 27 so it gets kind of cozy as the trips get longer but they say the best boat is the one you have right now. Still, I hope a larger sailboat (35' to 40') is in our future so we can make a comfortable journey down to Florida and over to the Bahamas and maybe beyond. We look forward to watching the rest of journey until we catch up to your current (in 2023) season in the Med.
What a great 59+ steps from Haiti through the Caribbean and back to the port where it once began. Awesome journey, what growth has been seen in Uma and you both as sailors and videographers. Well Done! Cheers
I have watched you guys from the beginning. I am delighted that you did not buy the couch. In the spring of 1975, I had a sail very similar to this one. It rained some but we had those perfect winds. Video was VHS which is terrible in sunshine and editing a 35 mm or even a 16mm or super 8 on a boat was a matter of cutting and splicing and using tape glue. That particular adventure was only documented in my mind. It is a great memory though. Your are so lucky and blessed to be able to do what you are doing. Thank you so much for taking us along!
The water spouts brought back childhood memories from my days on a shrimp boat with my Grandad! We got caught by the edge of one and it cleared everything that wasn’t tied down.
I really like the vibe of your videos. You take the time to the show the lines and the waves in the water going by the boat. It gives a feel of almost being there. And that is nice for a old sailor like me. Keep up the good videos, Smooth sailing
2 years and ten thousand miles, where did the time go? It's been so much fun following along with you both! Thanks for having all of us! Can't wait for what is yet to come. You guys are the best!!
I really appreciate the update on your Lasik Surgery! I’ve been on the fence about having it done… Seeing you and the experience of having it performed is really encouraging! I have my consult next week and I can’t wait! Thanks for the Great Videos…
Without a doubt one of your better episodes, some culinary highlights, sail trim explanations, weather issues to deal with.....an all sailing episode :)
You two are awesome! It’s been so much fun watching your journey from the beginning (like re-engineering the mechanics and keel of your boat) and your world travels! Welcome back to the states. Are you planning on sailing up to NYC?
Great video! The new camera (Then!) really makes a noticaible difference! Love the ambience and feel of the conditions you convey with the audio and editing! Glad that the extra reefs worked so well! Thanks again for sharing the steps of your adventure, slowly catching up! Aw poor flag:-)! Shame you couldn't stop off in Cuba!
Have been watching from the first step and have loved how honest and true you guys. The new camera has really help you make us feel like we are there with you. Excellent editing kids! Stay safe and keep living and loving every day.
My husband and I are RV'ers but Uma, Ran Sailing and Gone With The Wynn's are my favorite channels to watch if I want to sit back and relax for a bit. I think hubby is a bit worried that I might want to trade in the RV for a sailboat. :-) Thank you so much for taking us along on your journey.
Because of you....the SV Impossible Dream is making a port call to my town....Newburyport Massachusetts. I saw your video and contacted Deb. We have 3 local groups bringing their very excited clients for a sail in August. Thank you.....can't say enough about how uplifting your videos are. Be well and keep up the fantastic work!
Had Lazik 18 years ago, eyes still perfect, I really related to the comment of being able to open your eyes and just see...... Great vid, keep them coming, thumbs up
I found you and Ran on a live chat that Sailing Doddles was doing in Puerto Rico. I beinged watched Uma and Ran and to this date I am delighted to have the amazing people of these three channels show me the world! Congratulations on this chapter of your journey! #LoveSailingUma #ClassAct
Dan: High quality sewn flags are worth the extra money. Thanks for the eye report. Kika: Please don't put your fingers in the loop when making a cleat hitch. Both: Great video, great journey.
My knowledge is way out of date, as I am still running through the flags my grandfather left me from 30 years ago. To give you an idea, one of them is tattered, but carefully labeled 'Hurricane Carol'. Look for flags with two rows of stitching, large elements made of the same flag material (i.e. nylon), small elements embroidered. You might look at Green Grove, pictures of their Canadian flag look pretty nice (but I would want to see it in person).
Funny how I know your editing style so well.. The last 60 seconds of this episode was edited completely different when compared to the rest of the video... I love the episodes, but when edited like the last 60 seconds, you are taking it to a whole different level. Good job!!
This was so beautiful! I cant wait until me and my wife do this. You guys have inspired me quite a bit, especially with the little bits of information that you mention of things we didnt really think were practical like getting lasik over seas and visiting the dentist. Seriously, I'm going to watch all of your videos that I havent seen. Motivation and guidance at its finest
Proud of you guys. It's been an amazing two years. So glad I found you guys. I really enjoyed watching your journey. looking forward to more videos and experiences.
My old stomping grounds, Biscayne Bay and the surrounding waters. Many of those structures did not exist back in my day. You sailed North of the bridge, some how I expected you to stop further south, maybe near Crandon Park marina. Or Coconut Grove anchorage! I grew up with a Rhodes Bantam, a Venture Cat and then a 26' Columbia Contender and I worked mate on a pair of (bait) scrimp trawler in Biscayne bay for 18 months or so. Both of my brothers were Shrimp Boat Captains for some years. Ah, the nostalgia! Dodging water spouts in the Gulf Stream. flying fish and rays landing in your lap on a night sail, broken tillers in sudden squalls, ah, the joy of it all.
You do something that many sailing videos don't. Not sure how to explain it. But, when watching your show I feel like I am there instead of just viewing. Cool beans 😎
hey, thanks for bringing us along. i wasn't sure if it was back to day-jobs for a bit, after seeing the title. but my guess now, is we are planning an Atlantic crossing. we'll miss you if u take time off sailing, but u probably should. but lets pick it back up when u see favorable winds for...., Greenland? ok? luv ya guys.
What an amazing journey. Loved the videos. Was nice to see you guys troubleshoot and figure things out as you went along. Entertaining as well as informative. Makes me wanna sail the world. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Hope to see more in the future.
WOw that went by so fast, i remember doing a marathon watch in the beginning. About until you started traveling, then i needed to wait. What super cool journey it was, also nice that you visited Curacao, the island i live! Have a great voyage to Europe!
Its really a pitty sort of you got this super great camera at the end of the journey. THinking your vids would be even better when you had it from the start. But Europe will be epic now :) This epi was so great, i think the battle epi wasnt shot completely on the Sony was it, this one looked so much better. Those slo-mo shots are epic, the shallow DOF is so sweet on this camera.
My wife (Liz) and myself had lasik years ago, She would not drive at night as she saw halos around light sources after the lasik it had gone away and her night vision was great, Cheers Ken
Great video guys, looks like it was an awesome sail! We miss you guys back here in Mexico. Also killer shots of the sunset! Now we really want a faster lens😉
The 85mm 1.8 is the absolute best value in Canon glass (except maybe the 50mm 1.8 "Nifty Fifty"). The 85mm is an amazing portrait lens for stills... perhaps you need weather sealed lenses though.
Back in 1965 we were going to Water cay in the Bahamas from GBI in a 20 ft. motor boat. We ran out of gas and were waiting for a friend to come out with more gas when a water spout came at us. We had no way to mobilize. It got so close that we could see the drops of water in it. At the last minute it turned and missed us. It was scary!. Glad to see you guys using a safety harness.
Just started watching this weekend and binged watched....love the progression and growth in audio, editing and production. Thanks Kika for answering my silent question ( I'm sure plenty women thot about...how do feel during this period 😉on water ) glad is just the first day is bad...really really love the storyline....hope my other 3 questions get answered...😉😉😉🙃🙃
yup it was an awesome run the past two years. went to all the places no one goes to but needs to.very polished vid for some strange reason. puttin it down to a new camera maybe. really like you 2 when yer tired and pissed off. real Well done by the way! and thanks!
...Still binge watching. I have to ask myself, why did I take to long to find you guys? I have/do watch other sailing channels, but I've already noticed that you guys seem to have more 'TH-camrs sailing channels' watching you than any other channels. It seems that you guys are the 'bench mark' in sailing the globe 😉😘😁👍
Amazing part 1 of your journey! We'll know its over when you buy a couch. Been watching along since your 5th step. We all know Uma is getting some work done but would be awesome to have a re-cap of everything that you've done to her since you bought her. She is an amazing boat and the fact that you did most of it without mechanical propulsion is props to the crew.
VHF is basically line of site, and as long as there isn't anything blocking the radio waves, you'll usually get reception. On the ocean, the only two things that could affect it are the curvature of the earth's horizon, or clouds. In special circumstances, with the right frequencies, its possible to talk to the ISS through amateur radio VHF frequencies! I've done it from the grounds of the NASA space center in Houston with a 5watt hand held radio!
A pity Uma did not stop in Havana. I'd love to see your take on Cuba. Very profesh video production. Much more entertaining than a production house production. Top Quality photography and editing. Great to see telltails on the mainsail. You will be able to set the proper leech twist now to suit conditions. The towel in your face with glasses cracked me up. You're a cookie Kika. Love your hair, Its like you've walked of the set off the film/musical HAIR. More McGyvering Dan, thanks for the entertainment. Over.
Love the cooking bit in your shows :) no any boat chaneel show that an lot and i think theres an need. for it :) ...maybe do more video's of travel by sea and cook up dishes from the parts in the worls you guys visit? Like "nationell dishes"? Keep safe and keep sailing
During my brief stay in Marathon Key, FL, there were many days where the GOM was flat as glass. The expression then was " the Gulf is in". Visibility was 100feet+ in any direction ;)
i have always been one that enjoys that kind of stuff now that i am making my home in Puerto Rico i am so glad i will have that opportunity ...stay strong
Awesome stuff. Just binge watched everything over the last three days. Now I have to wait! Your editing and camera work has really come a long way. Of course the amazing production quality is a nice to have for me -- I'm just here to see the adventure. Seems you guys are very close to being ready for the crossing. Getting your motor dialed in with some redundancy would be the one thing I'd be thinking about -- not that you motor much. :)
Wow, thats quite the accomplishment. Get some sleep, eat some food. Go on a walk. lol. We're slowing down a little a probably won't be crossing this season, but will still be sailing and exploring. And of course many cool project to tackle onboard. Enjoy!
🇺🇸⚓️welcome back too the good ole US of A⚓️🇺🇸 I’ll be down in palm beach from ny on the 14th 15th n 16th I’ll be cruising out of lauderdale on the 17th I would love to treat you too brunch, lunch or diner. A small token of appreciation for taking us all on your awesome adventures.
Waterspouts get close you drop sails and stow anything that is not bolted down go down below. When past you will come out to a deck covered small fish. I don't know about running from them since when we saw them they chased us down.
Love your journey ..fishing..cooking...adventures...unforgettable memories...exploring the unknown..Love your videos editing ....i love sailing too n planning to make same plan like yours but my adventures will be in the indian ocean because i lived in Mauritius island. My dream wil be to sail to Antarctic one day.... u guys r awesome ..!! Take care see u soon..
Absolutely brilliant, my dears 😊 👍 👍 👍 👍 Incredible footage, and editing😊👍( also rather emotional! 😕) Many thanks for sharing! All love, and best wishes, Claire, Sally, and Zora, Berlin 😘 😘 😘 ✌ 👍
This was 2 years ago? Well, I just recently started following you guys journey. From the Binge to watch to the end of this one chapter of your journey. I’m almost through the overnight watching your videos one after another. I have one question though. •••••••••• How did you guys meet, how did you guys started your relationship, what did your families reacted when you two decided to go on the sailboat traveling around the world without getting “normal jobs “? Maybe, someone may have already asked these questions and you might have already answered them all, I don’t know, but I’m very curious about how you two established such a strong trust and bond to each other...because it’s just so incredibly beautiful and almost perfect relationship a couple could ever asked for. I’d truly appreciate it if you could answer my questions ❤️ ••••••••••. Love always, Fair winds! Naomi from SolCal
I love how a beautiful sunset or sunrise is an event for you guys. Makes me want to slow down and appreciate God’s beauty.

I second that. It’s also inspirational.
To see what you started with and how far you have gone with so little to start with

Thank you again for a wonderful video, and practicing safety, ......your camera is awesome. Safe travels.
Uma looks great you'll have a safe trip back home.
New to this , enjoying following the steps , that little nod to UMA @19.20 seconds by Dan was nice
THANK YOU GUYS FOR TAKING US ALONG ON YOUR AMAZING TRAVELS.....
I love the new camera, what a difference!
Oh yeaaaa
I thought it was his LASIK that made the videos better
Berend de Boer couldn't agree more
Loved watching you on the challenge part 2 looks like you all had so much fun.
Good episode guys! You've come a long way with your editing skills. I am honestly excited for your future content.

I'm going on a mission trip to Titanyen, Haiti this summer and I can't wait to see Kikas home country!
Welcome back, Sailors! I'm excited for your next run.
Possibly the most enjoyable step yet... says, the ole pirate! Great job and Dan is looking GOOD! Lol
You two are awesome! It’s been so much fun watching your journey from the beginning (like re-engineering the mechanics and keel of your boat) and your world travels! Welcome back to the states. Are you planning on sailing up to NYC?

You would love Sailing Zatara too!!
I agree, and it was Capt Rick Moore that got me started watching sailing channels :)
Wow that is very touching. Glad we could help out and bring more smiles their way! thanks for following. plenty more videos coming your way ;)

Marie Morrissey, check Sailing Fata Morgana. You will be amazed!
Dan: High quality sewn flags are worth the extra money. Thanks for the eye report.
Kika: Please don't put your fingers in the loop when making a cleat hitch.
Both: Great video, great journey.
+CorwynGC Do you know where we can buy some high quality ones. We ordered a new one and a few spares, but they don't seem that well made.
Your video editing skills are getting way above average! Well done!

Proud of you guys. It's been an amazing two years. So glad I found you guys. I really enjoyed watching your journey. looking forward to more videos and experiences.
Great video, amazing shots!
Keep up the good work, we look forward to hearing from you each week
My old stomping grounds, Biscayne Bay and the surrounding waters. Many of those structures did not exist back in my day. You sailed North of the bridge, some how I expected you to stop further south, maybe near Crandon Park marina. Or Coconut Grove anchorage!
I grew up with a Rhodes Bantam, a Venture Cat and then a 26' Columbia Contender and I worked mate on a pair of (bait) scrimp trawler in Biscayne bay for 18 months or so. Both of my brothers were Shrimp Boat Captains for some years.

Thanks for all the great footage over your journey! I’m looking forward to what’s next for you two!!💞💞🇨🇦🇨🇦💟🌈
You do something that many sailing videos don't. Not sure how to explain it. But, when watching your show I feel like I am there instead of just viewing. Cool beans 😎

Loved this episode!! Beautiful shots of the sky! 😍😍 Thank you

Great video guys, looks like it was an awesome sail! We miss you guys back here in Mexico. Also killer shots of the sunset! Now we really want a faster lens😉
+Sailing Project Atticus Yeah, you guys can get Cannon glass, so find some used manual lenses for super cheap $30 or less. And go for it!
The 85mm 1.8 is the absolute best value in Canon glass (except maybe the 50mm 1.8 "Nifty Fifty"). The 85mm is an amazing portrait lens for stills... perhaps you need weather sealed lenses though.

Looks like you've got the slo-mo sorted.. makes for great watching, thanks!!
You hit another one out of the park, great video and story
Beautiful vid guys. Love the slo-mo,s... keep up your great work ⛵️
This was a great piece. It’s so relaxing just to watch sailing. No rush.
How’s your plans for coming to Europe? Would you like to visit Baltic Sea? 😁
Very emotional sail. Thanks for sharing.
Outstanding, guys! Can't wait for the next chapter!

Fantastico! Looking forward to the next leg of the journey!

Enjoy!

Your videography is just beautiful...
Dan glad the eyeballs are working. Kika what happened to "Cheers"?
Awesome video, you are back and your keel didn’t fall off, like they said. Lol
Great video, welcome back to the US!
