Sorry to hear that. I've been adjacent to this sort of drama in open source circles, and that's tough enough. At best you wind up with a schism of sorts. It usually ends up ruining a LOT of friendships too, I can speak of that from experience.
I'm beginning to wonder if we can recover from this as a society. Back in my day, you could disagree fundamentally with a guy and not hate him for it! This is but one tip of a huge mega-iceberg, an endemic social issue. This is the mind virus that Elon talks about. Humanity is going to end itself arguing banalities that frankly nobody cares about, nobody SHOULD care about.
Absolutely none of this has to do with programming, it's purely about ostracizing part of a community because a different part of it claims victimhood.

NixOS is a lot of work for a single user with only a small number of devices. A lot of things work differently or strangely, and you really need to dive deep into doing things the Nix way for it to work.
A good example of this is Python virtual environments. It is very much non-trivial to set up a Python virtual environment with libraries not in the Nix Packages repository.
(Also, it breaks DOOM Emacs every time it updates.)
I personally used it for 8 months on my gaming and work laptop. It made certain things (like setting up hybrid graphics for gaming) very easy, and it made other things that should have been simple needlessly difficult.
The biggest disadvantage is that nothing is done in the proper Linux/UNIX way, and needs to be looked up online. This wouldn't be such a big deal if the documentation were good, but it is genuinely terrible. Many things are either entirely undocumented or are documented in some random blogpost, though some of it is in the (rather spotty) unofficial wiki, but the information is usually incomplete or unclear. But all of the above sources are united in being outdated and not useful.

I looked at the mails from him and others and the explanation they came with. And I can't conclude that or even disagree with the ban.
Seem like a completely standard decision that went through a protocol and deliberation.
And lunduke is pulling all the punches and blowing single comments out of proportion, like a snowflake.
      And spinning things wildly .
I also took time to read some other of his posts, and his arguments are exacly what us that babe worked in hostile work environments battle with, the justification of silencing other people but by manipulator's that are good at framing.
People don't have to be harsh on the surface they hide it to the superficial eye, and claim its them that has been wronged.
And they are good at targeting and looking benign and even get support from outside neutral people, that is EXACTLY what they describe he does in their letter, well if i moderated it you would not get away with it just because you cover your negativity or harassment in smart manipulative ways .
Beciase that behaviour is more damage than just loud rude behaviour everyone can easily see.
Another issue is that manipulation is often causing an aggressive response from people after long time of harassment. And then often those that are the subject of harassment is blamed , beocase people look at the surface level instead of what is happening.
Just like you do right now.
Dont help and support the manipulator's.

It seemed like the perfect blend of immutable and tinkering, so I ended up installing it on my laptop. Installation took ages, ok that's fine, you only have to do it once. Start adding packages to get basic stuff working, also slow, but bearable. I want hardware video decode, so I install the needed intel-media-codecs or whatever it's called. It doesn't work because the files are in a weird Nix-specific path instead of where VAAPI looks for them, I end up doing a sudo ln -s to fix that. I wanted to use a different LightDM greeter that wasn't already packaged for Nix, so I decide to try doing it myself. I've packaged stuff for multiple other package managers, how hard could it be, it's just a basic cmake project on GitHub. I tried following docs and also using a script to generate the package file skeleton, neither of which got me anywhere near a working package or even understanding the nixpkgs package file format. I would rate it pointless/10.
