Excellent repair! What I really like about Alex is that regardless of how bad the prior repair work is, he does not focus on insulting or belittling the previous technician's attempts and just cracks on getting the job done for the customer.
I have seen many people work on board, but to be frankly honest the level of experience this guy had on repairing a board is exceptional👌🏿 this is what i called a Protech.
I am impressed at the level of rework being done here, and astounded in the damage done by the previous shop. I build prototype PCBs sometimes on flex, sometimes entirely 0402 components. It's hard enough to do the work, but also placing the camera somewhere that does not interfere with the work is even harder!
They probably use camera in the microscope for that(there are stereoscopic microscopes with a third "scope" that is usually just coupled to one of the normal scopes that is designed for a camera to sit in, it is supper usefull if you are communicating with someone on the topic of the board somewhat frequently and you don't want to fiddle with mounting and dismounting camera from the head all the time) and just some third hand outside of the workzone for the panaramic shots, which doesn't interfere with work all that much in the first place
I never miss a video and I always enjoy them. I believe I am becoming a better laptop repairman because of your no nonsense and to the point teaching. Keep them coming Alex! Greetings from Ontario Canada.
Always blown away by your equipment not to mention your knowledge. Quite a massive investment both up front as well as the perpetual cost of wages. I'm self-employed and realized early on that the "big boss's pay is what's left over after paying all the bills.
Adding and UV curing solder mask was another level. Great work. Only one caution. If I saw the video correctly, one of the rework wire belonged to the high speed TMDS differential signal. And due to mismatch impedance a very long HDMI cable may have problems.. but the repair quality was A+ no doubt.
Tip: Try solder alloy from Quik Chip, it has a lower melting point than regular solder and makes desolering stuff so much easier. You keep mixing it in with regular solder under heat and you suck up the solder with wicking quickly.
This is exactly the reason why a lot of companies disparage third party repair centers. We should have full video recording of all repairs from unboxing to repackaging so that crappy repair centers don’t get away with this.
When you fixed the traces by adding longer copper strips than necessary and put UV resist over the ends to keep the new trace pads from lifting, that is an excellent improvement on the previous techniques! I was looking into using SMD glue or something else to help my projects withstand a few solder / desolders, but this uses the stuff I already have :) thank you for the shared experience
Huh, I'm genuinely surprised to see UV resin standing up to the heat of soldering :) Is it a special kind of resin? Also amazing work recovering that mess.
Love watching your videos……. Helped me a lot, quick question tho as Iv not seen it come up in any of your vids, what happens if the missing pad is from a GND pad? Ie pads 2,5,8 or 10?
with those mechanical holes you jst heat the solder and tap the pcb and let gravity do the job for you. just make sure you have space under the pcb and that the hot solder is caught by a piece of paper etc underneath the pcb.
I always hated/laughed when we'd get stuff from other shops that "couldn't fix it." I've seen some truly horribly botched repair attempts and just couldn't help but sigh that the people working on them consider themselves competent enough for the job.
Why not use an adhesive to attach those new pads to the board then solder everything up. In my opinion, that would adhere the replacement pad as it should be in place. Thoughts?
Nice work, great job. So i dont understand how they tell you and the customer that they didn't worked on that ps5 before. Why they just say "we tried to fix it but we couldn't do it better...we ripped some pins. Please fix it for us" You did it i an excellent better than factory way. Thank you for the video. Greets
5:40 First t8me watching channel and I’m Subbed! That was awesome and the skill and LvL of work you do is bang on quality. Repairing the pcb with new solder masking, and actually setting/curing w/ UV👍🏻👍🏻 Very well done, very well done…..and ppl say 3rd party repair is crap; this wouldn’t EVER be done as 1st party repair, would be in bin (let’s be honest….not even recycled) as “takes to much time”; & imo, 3rd party repair from great quality shop is 100x better then refurb/repair from company themselves (or more accurately, the company “[they]” use for repairs)…🍎 Cheers✌🏻
Absolutely beautiful. I love it when the soldering end result looks clean and professional. Great Work. What was the green liquid you used on the board. Is that to insulate?
That's solder mask. In this case it keeps the wires in place but also he puts it where the other repair shop but solder to stop it connecting the pins and short circuiting
I don't get how you guys can fix this stuff. I can't even solder two spliced wires together. Well, couldn't until I cheated and bought that butt joint that has the two solder collars in it and use a heat gun to melt the solder and bind the wires. BUT MAN, for whatever reason, I have never gotten soldering down. Always impresses me when i watch SMD soldering like this.
IS THAT FROM A SHORT, or did the other shop butcher it that bad? Edit; THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL. Also, (clearly new to this channel) you made sure it didn't look like crap, cleaned up the excess flux and everything. That's impressive.
Assalamu 3alaykum, what do you think of the build quality of the PS5? I keep seeing many issues with the hdmi connector and other areas. Just want to say we appreciate your hard work and honesty. It's very difficult to find someone that gives two shits about their customers. You're someone that we can trust, and it's hard to find.
I think the customer was probably trying to save themselves the embarrassment claiming another repair shop looked at it. To be fair, they only damaged 2 traces! A reflow and 2 simple jumper wires was all that looked like needed to be done to get it running again. I couldn't see a repair shop going to all that trouble to remove the old connector and not jumping 2 traces. Nice repair in the end, starting fresh and replacing the connector.
At least one replaced component. Looked like 2 missing components/damaged pads as well, but he didn't touch them. Maybe unused in this specific board revision.
@@lennerd6 With the correct tools and somo practice yes is very simple and for a repair shop that is not able to do this and then what they could be able to do?
