    Father purchased a Tora Zero in Chino CA 1990's?, came with an R1830 and a DC-3 prop. It would beat Rusty Gardners P-38 to altitude for the movie shooting Iron eagle #3? Two seats but the second seat was turned backward...lol

    I was a little kid when this movie came out and my dad was a pilot for Braniff Airlines at the time. I'm still fascinated by any mention of it even to this day (the movie was that big of a deal). Great video and thanks for the info about the production. Glad there are a few of these planes left and that you got to work with one.

    Some of the Tora Tora performers were based at my home airport when I was learning to fly as a kid, and one of them was my Stearman/BT-13/AT-6 instructor. Great guy, who also flew one of the planes in the more recent “Pearl Harbor” movie. I don’t think this particular Tora plane was ever at our airport, but we had a couple of others.

    • @utopiasnow
      @utopiasnow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Refer to 23.177, but to summarize rudder (appropriate magnitude to the type of aircraft) is added slowly looking for a lateral response without help from the ailerons. In a certification environment this would be checked in all gear, flap, and power configurations from 1.2 Vs1 to Va. In this case I only looked at it clean at cruise power and speed, and only out to 25% rudder deflection.

    • @utopiasnow
      @utopiasnow  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The story is the that on some accident the fuselage will bend in such a way that the canopy will jam. So if the canopy is closed you'd be trapped inside. It's also been said that it's much harder to see the gear down locks with the canopy closed.

    Great video. Why are you cranking over the engine before switching on the mags? Is there a particular reason?
    Greetings from Germany 😊

    • @utopiasnow
      @utopiasnow  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's common in round motor operation. But specifically on this gear ratio engine there is a belief that pulling the engine through before flight (to prevent hydraulic lock) could in itself hydraulic lock the engine. So the procedure is to crank the engine for 6 blades before turning the mags on, to clear the bottom cylinders.

It is definitely quieter with the 3 blade, not going supersonic at the tips. How much difference in slow down between 3 part Flaps and the 2 part?

    • @utopiasnow

      Open cockpit is a safety thing. There is some risk that in an accident the fuselage could tweak and jam the canopy closed, trapping the pilot.
      As far as the mask. I wear it for three reasons:

    This is good except for that crappy music. Music really takes away from the video. T-6s aren't A6Ms not matter what you modify.

    Good stuff, but very annoying music. Would have been just perfect listening the engine and its soundtrack.
