- In this Wiggles Top 5 I looks at the five best arcade exclusive SHMUPS that desperately need some sort of modern port to consoles and/or PCs. I'm a huge shooter fan and this is a list I was very excited about making, and it was a lot of fun playing some of the games that made this list for the first time! Let me know in the comments below what you think of these games or ones that I may have missed.

Progear got released as a part of capcom arcade stadium on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Steam. Kinda yay
Was just about to post this. I am SO stoked to have this thing on my console of choice: the PS4.
I tend to think that fans like you made the pro gear port possible. Because without videos like these I would have never heard of many of these games.
And your eloquent speech about Batrider convinced me. I’m about to play it.
It's insane that i completely forgot i've played some arcade games decades ago when i was a little kid, yet the memories of me playing those games reappears when i saw certain images like the futuristic ship that drops you on Out Zone or the power up shape on the Thunder Dragon 2.
Was able to play and finish (with continues >.>) batrider offically on a candy arcade machine in a retro arcade hall a few weeks back, one of the best gaming experiences I've had in a while, seriously this game needs way move love than it got...
After this video I went and searched for progear and it looks like it is going to be released for the Nintendo switch thanks for the video

Great video, man! I'm a huge shooter fan, so this was right up my alley. I'll need to add these to my Super Retrocade. Hopefully they'll work on it. I refuse to play games on my computer.
They should. The only ones that might give you issues are some of the Sega Model 2 games, but none of those made the top 5 so they dont matter anyways ;)
Another great video! This was very well written and edited. SHMUPS aren't really my cup of tea (mostly because I suck at them hardcore lol) but it was still interesting to see this list. That was very sweet of you to dedicate this video to Forrest, he will be missed.

This was a sweet video. Not sure why the 1940's series saw such massive distribution, they are nearly indistinguishable to me =/

Great Video. I think you should try Boogie Wings from Data East released in the arcades only in 1992. This is one of the most unique; if not the most unique shoot em ups of all time. Trust me. It's awesome.

@@wigglesarcade8261 You're welcome and I'm enjoying Thunder Dragon 2 right now. And you're right. It's much better than the 1943 series of games. Although I'm a fan of those games also. And the boss music to TD2 has quickly become one of my favorite boss music in recent years. Thanks so much for these recommendations and I'll try out the other 4 games when I get the chance. @@patriciajacobs8224 I had heard of Thunder Dragon 2 prior to making this video, but it was one of those backlog games I'd just never for around to, but now that I have its grown on me exponentially. And yes, that soundtrack is amazing! Let me know what you think of the other games on this list when you get a chance to play them :)

@@wigglesarcade8261 Had a little time before I leave for the day so played one of the shooters in this list. I just tried out APB and for the love of God this game is just SUPER AWESOME! The gameplay is just so incredibly fast and this game is way better than most of Raizing shooters, including Soccer Strike and Battle Garegga. And the soundtrack, especially the bosses music which I think I heard more than one, fits the fast paced action that always going on during the first few levels I played. And Now I see why you ranked this at #1 in this video. Like you said, M2 or somebody needs to release these game on the Switch or PS4 cause this needs to be played by the mainstream audience. If I have a chance tomorrow, I'll try out Progear next. When you get a chance, try Boogie Wings and I think you'll like it. Later.

Nice List, hmmm other underrated Shmups, STGs? Illvelo from Milestone Inc?! is topnotch... Ahhhh Dang... Radirgy Noa has a Wii Port... Cyvern: The Dragon Weapons from Kaneko... is really good... too... Cheers

It's wild that Batrider was never ported to home console. Maybe there was a port being developed for the Saturn that was canned when the Saturn began to die off?
Or maybe the Battle Garegga Saturn port didn't sell well and that discouraged Raizing from financing any more ports?
Riazing was folded into 8ing around that time and they stopped doing Shmups. They probably didnt get around to Batrider before they were absorbed.
After M2 Shottriggers finishes with all the Toaplan ports, it would be rad if they ported more of the Rizing games. They truly are doing the lord's work.

Fire Barrel is one I just discovered on mame thats pretty good and not on any consoles. It's an Irem vertical shooter.
I am pretty sure Thunder Dragon 2 has finally gotten ported over on to the PS4. Thank god! And thank you too Greg Lambert over at H&R Block.
And yes I agree that it's way better than Capcom's 1940s series. Also, have you ever tried Zed Blade by NMK?
Arcade Exclusives?!??!? I own all of these, actual hardware. but i started around 2008 collecting PCB and astro city cabs, supergun c/p's before prices started skyrocketing due to TH-cam retro craze started nothing is really "exclusive" it just takes money to attain anything, I'm glad with the total collection i had amassed over a decade of collecting. I do have 30% of my retro games on EMU's but the hard-to-find ones I bought straight away.
Progear and armed police batrider and mainstays in my candy cabs.
But Progear Now In Console As Capcom Arcade Stadium
Thunder dragon 2 is getting a new rerelease.
Also now armed police batrider doesn't run well on the M2 shoot triggers emulator (as well as M2 wants).
Also with Progear ported now ported I'm thinking I'll need to do a redux of this list at some point. I'm just happy they're finally getting ported. Here's hoping someone gets Batrider working well for home consoles soon.

I hope this list doesn't age well; I hope all these games get ported to modern consoles and PC soon. More people need to play them.
@@wigglesarcade8261 It aged well because although the game got ported, the port is awful and lazy. I have it on PS4, awful sound balance, stuttering backgrounds and stuttering instead of smooth slow down during intense bullet patterns and 5-6 frames of input lag makes it absolutely unplayable (if you aim for 1CC).
Edit: I'm talking about Progear.
