I have no opinion either way on Bloc Party, and Noel is usually his funniest when he's being scathingly vicious about flaccid, bed-wetting bands...But he does also have a tenendency also, as does lLiam, to misjudge and lash out when bands are actually good and he's threatened by them (Nirvana, Radiohead, REM) to name a few...
wtf, totally did not see that coming, thought noel was the cultured one ha....noel, usually the lesser ass of the brothers, really showed his appreciation for music after the beatles here....in a way this isn't surprising, though, as Bloc Party represented the anti-nationalist swing of british music of the post punk revival for the more universal ethos of young adulthood, so i get why he wouldnt be a fan of them- he's alwasy been an grumpy old man mentally
He was fully on the coke train towards the end of Oasis, so it's not surprising really. I rate a lot of his guitar work (and singing/writing in Oasis) but he saw the new talent coming through and did not like the feeling of being in a dad band now.
Huge fan of both sides myself. Can appreciate the fans and attitude both sides conjure and why they have these views on one another but I think bloc party has a better case because the songs (at the time of the main feud especially) were clever, accessible and all-round brilliant; whereas oasis lacked the creative depth and draws in crowds of shirtless lads in bucket hats throwing piss over eachother (which is of course not the entire fanbase and crowd, but the reputation is backed up by this)
Noel Gallagher is one to talk. A three cord merchant, who if right were right, would struggle to hold down a busker spot at Waterloo station. Whether you like their work or not is irrelevant; the fact is Oasis produced music that resonated with more people across the world than bloc party or any of the indie bands of that era. It’s all good fun. Wouldn’t take it too serious. But yeah, Noel doesn’t do himself any favours with this shit. It’s kind of all he does. It’s kind of funny but mostly just us feeling embarrassed for Noel. Saw bloc party at glasto and they rocked it.
One of these bands just sold out a stadium tour and have four albums in the top 5. The other played at 5pm at Glastonbury. There are levels in this game.
1:44 I admire your stance! It was great to see Bloc Party at Glastonbury, that post-punk indie band finally on the big stage. First album was great, ‘I still Remeber’ from the second was fantastic. Noel’s just being Noel.
