  • This video is dedicated to the legendary Japanese swordsman and philosopher, Miyamoto Musashi who lived in 17th Century Japan. He fought in over 60 duels and he was not defeated in any of them. He is known as the greatest warrior of Japan and to some standards in human history. He was a Ronin (a masterless Samurai fighter who wanders alone), and as a Ronin, he never engaged in any deed that was considered ill and against honor. Honor and living a life with the highest standards of moral integrity and self-respect were the embodiment of Musashi's philosophy. Before dying in 1645, he wrote the Dokkodo - the 21 principles of life, in which he explains his rules of life and the way of the warrior, according to him, one must not stray from the path and always keep focused and determined life. Despite the fact that he lived centuries before us, his life lessons are worthwhile to be discussed and applied in our current time and generation. After all, we need more discipline and structure in our more distracted and chaotic life today.

I really enjoyed the video! It was a very good in depth analysis. I agree with what you said about the differences from the time of Musashi when compared to our modern era. There are a lot of distractions now adays, with the rise of consumer societies centered around the acquirement of material goods and wealth, many people have lost purpose and live monotonous lives without meaning. I also enjoyed the Tyler Durden Fight Club quote! I put that in my Dokkodo video as well, it's interesting to see the different interpretations of similar principles from different works/writings. I also enjoyed the relations to Stoic teachings as well. Great video! I look forward to more!

Does anyone know how Musashi explained his lifestyle to women and those around him? Did he even say anything? Alot of people probably can't comprehend or even understand the way of walking alone. Especially in this era. How would you explain this to someone if you live this lifestyle?

Great question. Appreciate your curiosity. This is the most daunting task of our generation now for the simple fact that we are increasingly overwhelmed by unlimited sources of distraction, and this made our lives devastating.

Very interesting but very difficult to follow due very boring and slow tone of voice. I will have to listen multiple times to really appreciate it.

if Musashi met with Antonio "tatang" Ilustruisimo, he would have been killed.
