Makes sense. Huge volcanic eruption where a famous city/port was. Plato writes about there being nothing but a giant void where the city once was-as though it sank into the ocean
@alekosalekadis6095 his description is vague and a supposition. That's far enough before him to blur his interpretation or judgement. He probably heard this story from a distant land and placed his own twist on it. Everything is speculation, including the eye of the Sahara.
@@shaggyrogers01 Except Atlantis was supposed to consist of 10 kingdoms, including the capital city of Atlantis. The total area was supposed to be as large as Libya (much larger in ancient times) and Asia Minor combined.
Yes, Plato described Atlantis as having been swallowed by the sea in a cataclysmic event, however, the "giant void" you refer to aligns with modern interpretations and geological features, such as volcanic calderas or submerged landmasses, rather than Plato's explicit description. He did not provide geological specifics, such as mentioning a caldera or volcanic activity. The Santorini hypothesis is speculative and not directly rooted in Plato's account.
Sitting in Santorini right now with the volcano right in front of me and watching this. I visited the prehistoric site yesterday. I’m not really convinced this is Atlantis, but very impressive place nonetheless just knowing what happened here in 1650bc.
@@edwardanthony7283 that would be stretching that the Atlanteans did really exist and weren't just a bronze age people who inspired the myth, my take is: there were bronze age people who inspired the myth but their name and civilization weren't even called Atlantis.
@@dandyrevisionist7879 It's for real. Minoan Civilization were the ones who ran Atlantis. It was under a different name, called Keftiu. Minoans did a lot of trading with Egypt. They were good friends. That explains why Atlantis was a perfect center where all the boats can come in & docked & unload the goods. A Greek visited Egypt where Egyptians explained the story of Atlantis (Keftiu). He came back to Greece and changed the name to Atlantis which gives it a better Greek sounding name when he shared the myth with his followers.
@@dandyrevisionist7879 Linguistic changes are certainly possible, (in general, next to certain, but less likely with a historical name,) over almost 12,000 years. But if you are interested in the subject of Atlantis, I recommend looking into what can be known and properly defining the word "Atlantis," including the origin of the word (specifically, what name the word "Atlantis" comes from and words connected to that name.)
For years, I already believed that Santorini is the location of Atlantis. They found some evidence at south part of the island. What I can't understand is why don't they search the bottom of body water around the volcano inside the island, with the use of underwater robot. They would find something if they do that.
They would find nothing. Remember that the island blew up, leaving just a ring of island behind, which means the center is the caldera.. The center volcano grew back out of the center.
@@montylc2001 One scientist already did that with a underwater robot and found many man made stones & pots around the island. They just need funds to continue this search deeper. Remember, the Atlantis were blown up. So, it's everywhere in the water. We just need a better scanner system & robots to do the search wide around the island. This will happen one day. It's there for anyone to find it. 🙂
It didnt blow up or sink, the caldera collapsed, dropping at least several hundred feet turning the old cone and the civilisation to dust. Then the pyroclastic flow would drop back and cover anything not already destroyed. Soon after that, a new volcano started growing fast to replace again what was lost burying anything around it far deeper. Basically, theres nothing to find except whats on the old outer ring of the caldera, and thats still buried under 20ft of ash and rocks. The fact the fresco depicts what plato described and the fact the houses are the correct combination of colours to fit descriptions of plato ect prooves the direct connection to the legend.
@@christianbuczko1481 Yes, it's an active volcano which did BLEW up. Have you seen a video of volcano blowing up? They considered it as one of the worst ever. Those scientists confirmed it. So, if you disagree, that's on you because they have the evidence. The city of Akrotiri, on Thera Island, has a HUGE painting which shows clues of Atlantis. That's why we need a fund to explore around the island which will happen one day. They didn't believe Trojan War story happened and now they found evidence. I'm telling you that Atlantis did happen. But if you want to be negative, go ahead & keep it to yourself because I don't want to hear it.
@@vice4134 i was refferring to what happened to the island and all artifacts, of course there was explosions, that wasnt the cause of the island disappearing. The magma chamber blew out its contents, and the thin crust on top then collapsed inwards causing 90% destruction to the island and and leaving 1 edge of the outer ring today. That caused a megatsunami which then wiped out the civilisations on every island around for a few hundred years too. Its actually far bigger than just a bang and its gone..
@nicholaswestley9851I think there might be evidence of a tens of meters tsunami. It also appears from the elevated locations of many of their palaces that they knew about tsunami.
@@LindaMerchant-bq2hp Right, but you talk about the island, 10% stands. I am talking about the civilization. Survivors had to migrate, merge with other civilizations and reinvent themselves, all affected across the Aegean.
I would love it if we knew where and if Atlantis was located, and Santorini's Volcanic incident does sort of fit the mold, however... Wouldn't they have mentioned the whole explosive Volcano thing in the description on how Atlantis sank? I have this issue with Camelot as well, being in Tintagel England, I figure that somewhere in the tales of Arthur, they would have mentioned that it was a coastal Town/city? I, personally, hope that these places existed, and from what we know, many fables and myths are based off of real events and things. I guess it is a process of elimination that would be useful here, is there any reason why Santorini could NOT be Atlantis?
perhabs the survivors didnt saw the explotion itself, they evacuated because of the constant earthquakes then weeks later maybe those who return, come to find a hole filled with water were the city was... That eruption caused a tsunami that also hit crete island and is believed played a mayor role in the collapse of the minoan civilization
For civilizations that relied heavily on multiple deities as and explanation for everything, it may not have been stated as a volcanic eruptions. It may have been stated that they received the fury of the gods. We didn't even get the story until 1300 years later. verbal histories of that length usually end up being so embellished that even when the ruins are found, we really are relyingon the ruins and what we know of surrounding cultures to fill in the blanks.
@@Gabriel26963 The video says the volcanic cloud got as far as Egypt and took 2 years to clear. @@thomas3t If Santorini was the cause then Plato is describing something that happened 1000 years before him. Therefore he is only describing what he has been told. The question is whether the Minoans understood what was truly happening 1000 years before Plato and how the story was passed from generation. The Minoans and Bronze age people had seen earthquakes regularly but Thera was the 1st Big Eruption that humans have witnessed, with a very poor documentation of the event. We dont even know what they were called let alone their understanding of things. It wasnt until Pompeii in 79ad that we started to look at volcanoes 'scientifically' - over 1,500 years after Santorini. However i agree Plato and the Greeks around 400bc were a enlightenment bunch and write about the Pyriphlegethon, Plato included, but if Plato was told it was an earthquake then hes gonna write down it was an earthquake.
Platos Description was 1,000 years after the fact. The Minoans at the time were pretty decimitaed. Im sure there accounts by the time it got to plato a 1000 years later would be vauge at best.
There is a crude Santorini fresco that shows a large middle island with buildings on it. That island would've been completely destroyed by the eruption. That's as close as were gonna get to a real "Atlantis" like city on an island that old and also that advanced

There is another location with a far greater quantity of compelling details (matches to Plato's description) than Santorini. The people living in the country I propose have their oldest known king as Atlas, who is a famous mathematician and philosopher, credited as possibly having invented the subject of astronomy and is definitely credited as "the world's first great geographer" by the man who coined the name "Atlas" to mean "a book of maps." This particular Atlas invented the idea of the celestial sphere that the Greek Titan ("Titan" is an Atlantean word, according to the Greek historian Diodorus Siculus, coined after the name of an Atlantean woman, "Titaia/Titaea," whose children were called the "Titans/Titanes") Atlas holds up in statuary (the Titan Atlas' areas of control/expertise are mathematics, philosophy and astronomy.) This is also why a renowned etymologist cited that "Mt. Atlas in Mauritania is important in Greek cosmology as a support of the heavens," ("heavens" meaning the celestial sphere's geocentric universe theory.) In fact, the math contained in celestial sphere theory is still accurate enough to work as astronomical shorthand (mathematical prediction of astronomical objects in relation to the Earth, which can be used for navigation) today even though the theory of geocentrism and celestial objects located on the inside surface of a sphere that encompasses Earth have been disproven. If Sonchis of Sais'/Plato's Atlantis legend is to be taken seriously, considering all of this other data, it would seem that we can trace astronomical navigation, philosophy and mathematics to pre-Iron Age/pre-Neolithic and into at least the late Paleolithic Era.
True, however he said their "island city" was destroyed by earthquakes and floods, and sank into a muddy sea. This fits exactly with what would happen if living on and or around the Santorini volcano during the eruption. I think Santorini and specifically the Minion civilization and or its predecessor fits the ancient story of Atlantis better then any other real world location and civilization. Minion civilization is probably the first inventor of in house plumbing, toilet and aqueduct/sewage system.
@@livefire666 Plato's account is super detailed about all aspects of Atlantis, yet fails to mention the very source of the city's destruction?? Don't think so. If there was a volcano it would be in the account. If the cataclysm was volcanic, mention of the effects of volcanism would also be prevalent. An earthquake and flood does not a volcanic event make. Moreover, Atlantis was extensive and not merely a single city or island, if we take Plato at his word. It was an _empire_ composed of *10* kingdoms. Not 10 cities, 10 kingdoms... What happened to the rest of the civilization? Did the Roman empire disappear after losing Pompeii and Herculaneum to Vesuvius? No, it did not, it continued to expand well after and survived centuries. Ancient Thera was not Atlantis, if the latter ever existed at all. A Minoan city and island, yes, most definitely.
@@jamesaron1967 hi there, Plato would not have known the real reason for the destruction because it happened 1000 years ago (to him) and anybody close enough to see the volcanic eruption when it happened died. The eruption destroyed the central island, which sank into the sea. Moreover, the volcanic eruption created huge tidal waves that destroyed the Minoan civilization on Crete. The Minoans were an advanced trading empire based on Crete but covering most of the islands in the eastern Mediterranean, including Santorini. Hence the legend of “10 kingdoms”. The Egyptians only knew that the sky was black and that their trading partners disappeared overnight. This story was passed down by them and embellished through the late Bronze Age collapse and Greek dark ages into the form where it was heard by Plato.
Atlantis is a made up city... Plato started the Atlantis hysteria by talking about a fabled city he called Atlantis. Ancient Egyptian civilization emerged from stone age
How many times can they say 'Santorini'??? Mussolini couldn't let it go and neither can sloppy research. The island was always THERA until it was Latinized by invaders to a new name- Santorini. It is part of Greece and all the maps in Greece say THIRA, IT'S OFFICIAL NAME- but Italians still print maps that say 'Santorini' and British and Americans follow like cattle.
Plato did not explicitly assert that Atlantis was located in the middle of a caldera. In his dialogues Timaeus and Critias, Plato describes Atlantis as a large, wealthy island with a series of concentric rings of land and water. This design was said to include a central island where the palace of the ruling king was located, surrounded by alternating rings of land and water. The association of Atlantis with a caldera comes from later interpretations, particularly those linking Atlantis to the volcanic island of Santorini (Thera) in the Aegean Sea. Santorini experienced a massive volcanic eruption around 1600 BCE, leaving a caldera surrounded by remnants of the island. Some scholars have speculated that this eruption and its effects might have inspired the Atlantis legend, especially considering the advanced Minoan civilization on Crete and nearby islands, which was disrupted around the same time. However, Plato’s account does not mention volcanic activity or any specific geographic features that align with a caldera. The idea of a caldera is a modern interpretation rather than something directly stated by Plato.
I think Plato created a moral story, loosely based on real life. If you approach it from that perspective, you won't waste your time looking for things that don't exist. Now of course you can search for that "real life" and if you find it, don't expect it to fit exactly with a legend or story.
WRONG! It's for real. Plato heard it from a party where a follow went to Egypt and learned about Atlantis, known as Keftiu. The follower changed it to make it sound more Greek.
You think Plato didn't know where Santorini was when he lived right next door? And also said it existed beyond the pillars of Hercules. Doggerland is a better candidate.
Its a mythological story taken literally by gullible people. The Thera eruption happen around 1645B.C at the beginning of the Mycenaean civilization almost 900 years before Plato. The island of thera were inhabited by the Minoans it's more than likely Plato was inspired by these catastrophic event and exaggerated its location and it's date. These are Greeks who believed in Gods, especially homers troy exaggerated by actual historical events.
Usually when civilizations were advanced back thousands of year's ago left their homes because of the growth of the civilization. What I mean is the bigger the population the more resources they would burn threw. So something that may of been sustainable for example 1,000 people, in 20 years when it's 5,000 might not be enough. So most civilizations moved due to lack of resources. It's hard to picture these day's because it's evident that thousands of year's later without human contact, the place itself heals with new vegetation and wildlife. But it's hard to say back then it wasn't bare because of the growth of population. There's also other scenarios such as natural disasters like Pompeii volcano eruption that in cased it's people in hot ash which preserved their bodies for researchers today to have better understandings of how those people ate and lived back then. There's other civilizations that had the land change to where their cities are under water now exc... It's really hard to pin point exactly what happened with all locations found outside of what was left behind in scrolls or books. But it's highly likely they ran out of resources like the Aztec's, Inca's and Mayan's once did as well as others. It's pretty cool with the technology these day's that we can have better guesses to what really happened because honestly we will never know, unless we were there lol. All we know is Persians, Roman's exc.. could of found this place and took the people or killed them off. So we really never know.
From the fresco's it look like at the time this city was in existence they had plenty of resources . The fresco of young man carrying a huge amount of Dolphin fish is a fine example . The strange thing that makes me think is a Fresco of monkeys . Either they brought the monkeys in from Africa, or just maybe there was some sort of land bridge connection with Africa at one point. I do not know am no expert ,just scratching my head where did the monkeys come from? Maybe this volcano sunk a much wider land mass then expected . I live in Florida since the 70s there is this pass that separates Caladesi Island from Honeymoon Island. This pass is deep enough to allow boats to go out to gulf of Mexico .These Islands are like breaker Islands . This pass was made from a Hurricane that past through which it is called Hurricane past (channel that leads out to gulf of Mexico) that happened many many years ago . New Hurricanes and storms are now closing up this Hurricane past channel which is not good for boaters so a man made dredging is being done to keep this deep channel past from connecting the Two Islands keeping a deep water channel to lead out to the gulf of Mexico . This volcano on Santorini could of massively changed the geography of this region to the point maybe somehow just maybe there could of been a land bridge from Africa to maybe the Island of Crete which is not far from Santorini . I am just guessing ,I am no expert but these exotic monkeys makes me scratch my head how they would be on the Island of Santorini unless they were brought there .

One of the excavated buildings on the south side of the island has a wall fresco with a map of the island that clearly is an ancient depiction of the true layout of Atlantis, drawn by the ancient hand and unmolested by myth and modern speculation. I believe that this fresco alone puts to bed the theories that Atlantis could have been anywhere else, and further excavations will eventually prove that this is the site of the city.
if the volcaon caused a 200 foot thick layer of ash to rain down on and around the island, that wouldve covered any submerged ruins too. youd need something like sonar to get through the layers of ash and detect ruins.

The latest research now shoes that Santorini was part of a much larger island that was covered (submerged) by the rising sea levels due to the glacier melt of the end of the last ice age 10k years ago.
I've always felt the legend of Atlantis is a combined human memory of when the major melt of the last ice age drastically increased sea levels swallowing islands and coastal cities and pushing everyone further and further inland. Most of human civilization is on coastlines so I'm sure that sea level rise wiped out most advanced cultures on Earth. I mean let's say something crazy happened now and wiped out the majority of civilization, it'd take us thousands of years to reclaim the level of technology we have now and 2000 yrs from now the tribal and village ppl would tell legends of a cataclysmic event and horribly mess up tales passed down of the technology we once had and modern civilization would just be a legend and probably assumed it was all in 1 city rather than spread out globally etc.
Santorini wasn't Atlantis. It was the lost Minoan civilization. Atlantis laid beyond the pillars of Hercules. Today that's the Straites of Gobraltar. Azores recently found a group of underwater pyramids. And where is the 9 islands of Azores? Beyond the pillars of Hercules
WRONG! Santorini is the location of Atlantis. The Minoans were very good sailors and had a good relationship with Egyptians. The Minoans owned several islands in the Aegean Sea. The Minoans were the ones who did a lot of trading. It all made sense. The pillars of Hercules is a whole different story.
I can tell you who built Atlantis and when, who then took Atlantis in 2445BC and became the Sea Peoples that dominated the Mediterranean and when the volcano blew where the survivors went to.
I know you guys want Atlantis to be a alien civilization with high technology and all that but all evidence points to Santorini, it all points to this, there are even murals showing the original island being a round island with everything Plato said…

The first thing to realize is that Plato's description of Atlantis is 3rd hand evidence at least. Solon is told the story by Egyptian Priest. The Names used are not the original names but names used by Egyptians. Solon then changed those names to Greek names. We are told this by Plato. The person telling this was 10 years old when he heard the story and he heard the story from a 90 year old relative of his. Notes were taken about the story as it was intended to be a play or drama. The information given is not reliable. Maybe the story is true but was the Island called Atlantis. It is possible that certain details could be wrong. What if greater than should be between Africa and Asia? What if a zero was added and it is 1000 years not 10000 years? We are told that Atlantis was at war with Athens and Egypt. This war could refer to the Minitour legend and Athens having to send tribute to King Minos? At the time of the Thera eruption Egypt was partly occupied by the Hyksos. Were the Hyksos allied with Atlantis? The war chariot was unknown to the Egyptians till it was introduce to them by the Hyksos. As per Plato the Atlanteans had 10000 chariots which they would have used against Egypt but the chariot is unknown to them till the coming of the Hyksos. The Hyksos are driven out of Egypt by Ahmos c1550-1525. The Thera uruption occurred around c1600. King Minus is linked to the Minoan's which declined as a cavillation from c1450. These events I suggest link Atlantis to Thera and Crete

9000 months instead 9000 years..?? Was Sonchis of Sais's "year" really a "month" ...?? If that was the case, he'd be referring to 750 years previously. However, Egypt did use Solar years at the time of Solon for civil use - details below (source: wiki). The ancient Egyptian calendar - a civil calendar - was a solar calendar with a 365-day year. It consisted of three seasons of 120 days each, plus an intercalary month of five epagomenal days treated as outside of the year proper. Each season was divided into four months of 30 days. The last five days of the year corresponded to the birthdays of five deities: Osiris, Isis, Horus, Seth, and Nephthys. The three seasons corresponded to the cycle of the Nile and agriculture. New Year's day was on July 19 and marked the beginning of the first season, akhet, which was the time of the flooding of the Nile.
Also, it should be noted that Plato wrote of Sonchis of Sais describing how old the laws were that Egypt and Greece had in common: You are welcome to hear about them, Solon, said the priest, both for your own sake and for that of your city, and above all, for the sake of the goddess who is the common patron and parent and educator of both our cities. She (Athene/Neith) founded your city a thousand years before ours, receiving from the Earth and Hephaestus the seed of your race, and afterwards she founded ours, of which the constitution is recorded in our sacred registers to be eight thousand years old. As touching your citizens of nine thousand years ago, I will briefly inform you of their laws and of their most famous action; the exact particulars of the whole we will hereafter go through at our leisure in the sacred registers themselves. If you compare these very laws with ours you will find that many of ours are the counterpart of yours as they were in the olden time.
When Plato wrote of Sonchis, no time period for the unprovoked invasion against "Europe and Asia" was stated, but he did write that it was recorded in their histories (of Ancient Egypt and Greece?): Many great and wonderful deeds are recorded of your state in our histories. But one of them exceeds all the rest in greatness and valour. For these histories tell of a mighty power which unprovoked made an expedition against the whole of Europe and Asia, and to which your city put an end. This power came forth out of the Atlantic Ocean, for in those days the Atlantic was navigable; and there was an island situated in front of the straits which are by you called the Pillars of Heracles; the island was larger than Libya and Asia put together..
In Plato's account, the Hellenes were mentioned as the people of Athens, but according to Homer and Herodotus their roots go back to 2000 bce to a town called Dodoni, and this is pretty much confirmed by archeological digs that have found "offerings" of a Zeus-cult going back to 13-14th centuries bce, the Late Bronze Age (or Mycenaean period). This is very close to the time period of the Santorini eruption.
Plato wrote: the men of Atlantis had subjected the parts of Libya within the columns of Heracles as far as Egypt, and of Europe as far as Tyrrhenia (Etruria; Land areas around the Tyrrhenian Sea: Corsica, Sardinia, and Italy's west coast). This vast power, gathered into one, endeavoured to subdue at a blow our country and yours and the whole of the region within the straits; and then, Solon, your country shone forth, in the excellence of her virtue and strength, among all mankind. She was pre-eminent in courage and military skill, and was the leader of the Hellenes. And when the rest fell off from her, being compelled to stand alone, after having undergone the very extremity of danger, she defeated and triumphed over the invaders
The land did not sink under the waves as even at 3000 ya the sea level was still rising after the lowest level, during the Ice Age, was a minimum of 130 metres below the current level of the seas and ocean.
It's a misunderstanding. 9000 years was the time period that Egypt and Athens had in common with their laws. The war didn't happen 9000 years before, Atlantis was WITHIN the Pillars and the continent/Island that the Atlantians had visited (or originated from..?) outside the pillars was... AMERICA !!!
The Pillars of Hercules are depicted in the Thera Akrotiri frescoes, the two statues on the left, at the entrance to the moat surrounding the lava dome that the city was built on. The myth of the Minotaur derived from the volcanic tremors and fissures beneath the city, the noxious gasses asphyxiating those youths who would venture beneath as sacrifices. Later, Greeks told tales of the arrogant Atlantean people who were destroyed by the Olympic deity Poseidon, repeated to this day, and again in this video. From other sources I have read, Plato's writings of Atlantis was more a morality tale possibly based on the stories of this cataclysm passed down over the thousand or so years from the occurance to Plato's time. As the Mediterranean human population grew and spread, the location of Atlantis moved further west until it's location was outside the Mediterranean altogether and into the Atlantic Ocean. Logically, the Thera/Santorini eruption, which I believe was a 7 on the Volcano Explosive Index would have been something (a super volcanic eruption) that would be well remembered via the stories passed down over time. Unlike the people of Pompeii, the people of Thera had plently of warning, a couple of months I if I remember, so packed up what they could and moved elsewhere to safety. There have been no human remains found during excavations and few pieces of valuable jewelery and other personal belongings. Santorini is on my bucket list!

So, perhaps Plato invented the story of Atlantis to make a philosophical point, using the story of Santorini/Minoans which presumably must have been known in a way, the destruction of it must have been echoed in the years afterwards

Yes, Plato described Atlantis as having been swallowed by the sea in a cataclysmic event, however, the "giant void" you refer to aligns with modern interpretations and geological features, such as volcanic calderas or submerged landmasses, rather than Plato's explicit description. This Beautiful island has a very long history, like all other Greek islands.
@@montylc2001
One scientist already did that with a underwater robot and found many man made stones & pots around the island.

The Minoans and Bronze age people had seen earthquakes regularly but Thera was the 1st Big Eruption that humans have witnessed, with a very poor documentation of the event.
Just for the record, there is no mention of an 'eruption' nor 'volcano' or 'caldera' in the Timaeus or Critias.

I live in Florida since the 70s there is this pass that separates
Caladesi Island from Honeymoon Island.

Most of human civilization is on coastlines so I'm sure that sea level rise wiped out most advanced cultures on Earth.

Also, it should be noted that Plato wrote of
Sonchis of Sais describing how old the laws were that Egypt and Greece had in common:
You are welcome to hear about them, Solon, said the priest, both for your own sake and for that of your city, and above all, for the sake of the goddess who is the common patron and parent and educator of both our cities.
When Plato wrote of Sonchis, no time period for the unprovoked invasion against "Europe and Asia" was stated, but he did write that it was recorded in their histories
(of Ancient Egypt and Greece?):
Many great and wonderful deeds are recorded of your state in our histories.
I must conclude that Plato was NOT referring to events 9000 years previously, but to those closer to his time!
Plato wrote:
the men of Atlantis had subjected the parts of Libya within the columns of Heracles as far as Egypt, and of Europe as far as Tyrrhenia (Etruria; Land areas around the Tyrrhenian Sea: Corsica, Sardinia, and Italy's west coast).
Atlantis was the name the Egyptians gave it. Atlantis was actually the Minoan civilization
I thought about the minoan civ also.. but hey in the end it is all just speculation ;)
Thousand years older than roman Pompeii
Nevermind the ~8000 year discrepancy between the date for this volcanic mediterranean shit heap and Plato's given date for Atlantis.
AMERICA !!!
That cold in Aegean Sea?
big like
Not in Mediterrenean sea, it s Egean sea
The Pillars of Hercules are depicted in the Thera Akrotiri frescoes, the two statues on the left, at the entrance to the moat surrounding the lava dome that the city was built on.
The myth of the Minotaur derived from the volcanic tremors and fissures beneath the city, the noxious gasses asphyxiating those youths who would venture beneath as sacrifices.
Later, Greeks told tales of the arrogant Atlantean people who were destroyed by the Olympic deity Poseidon, repeated to this day, and again in this video.
The ~ VEI7 cataclysm that was Thera devastated the eastern Mediterranean, sterilizing the region, forcing the survivors to seek refuge beyond, sailing there as Sea Peoples, Philistines, Phoenicians, chronicled by the Egyptians, who warred with them.
The bas reliefs at Medinet Habu depicting the Pharaoh Ramesses III's foes, who apparently, lost every battle as they advanced south on the Nile delta.
Their descendants built a civilization that spanned the North African coastline, and who, fourteen centuries later, would call themselves Carthaginians.
Great gold treasures rest beneath the volcanic ash floor of the Aegean Sea surrounding the caldera that is Santorini, deep beneath, tossed there by the massive explosion, likely far beyond Krakatoa's magnitude.

According to the Egyptians, it did.

This lady is more lost than Atlantis it self.
Plato didn't exactly say that tho'
Yeah you'd like to believe that's where Atlantis is but I'm sure Graham Hancock could prove more in why it isn't
Cold on the Med!?!
The Richat was Atlantis. The dots have been connected.
Undoubtedly
See my videos on Atlantis its not Santorini.
NOPE! It's based on facts.
Is Avaris
The Richat Structure was Atlantis.
The truth is revealed for All to see in the end.
Town of Fira as well the boxing boys fishermen

This is not the lost city of Atlantis...
atlantis was everywhere around the world but the its capital city was there as they say it is
How right you are. Out of interest, what prompted you to that conclusion?

BTW it was not called Atlantis at the time. Remember that it was Solon that gave "Hellenic names to foreigners".

NO ENGLISH CLOSED CAPTIONS = TWO THUMBS DOWN!!! 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
No it’s the Richat structure ! :)
It's more historically accurate then the eye of Africa
Plato said it was past the pillars of Hercules aka the strait of Gibraltar so wouldn't that mean it must be in the Atlantic?
Yeah, and he said that the island was bigger than Asia and Libya together...
And he had a plain so big and fertile that doesn't exist in today's geography.
So, perhaps Plato invented the story of Atlantis to make a philosophical point, using the story of Santorini/Minoans which presumably must have been known in a way, the destruction of it must have been echoed in the years afterwards
@@vanmars5718 best explanation actually
Didn't say "Past" The Pillars of Heracles best translation is before or in front of!
🤝
The real story of the Minoans and Thera is much more interesting than this Atlantis bullshit.

What acting 🤣
I hear their goat meat is unrivaled.
Not Atlantis for sure, and the woman is stretching for something to be under the waves even steps of somekind. O Well.
