My problem with congestion pricing is that it does not adress the problem. It just displaces it. The outer boroughs ALSO have ridiculous traffic. Have you tried driving down flatbush when school lets out? Or utica? Or atlantic ave? Eastern pkwy? Remsen ave? Pennslyvania ave? Broadway? @@KostyaT agreed. Personal cars should pay out the rear to be in Manhattan. Unless you're a city or commercial vehicle, take the train.
Believe me when I tell you more taxing is coming. Less people will, that means less gas tax, less vehicle violations, less taxes from parking.
And that’s a bad thing?
@@darthmaul216 Lmao the congestion pricing critics are insane. Oh no, fewer vehicular crimes! That's terrible!
You get what you vote 🗳 for New York.
This is absolutely insane 😮
I will be driving and passing on my travel costs to my clients.
Just wait for those who don’t own cars start having to pay more for all the goods being brought in. Get ready for $10 a gallon milk and $7 a slice pizza. Maybe then they will get it!
The wool comes from the sheep
Then you will see less sales and will go bankrupt
No one needs you here. You are not owed anything. Leave
New Yorkers are to blame for this! Stop voting democrat 🤷🏾♂️
More Public Transportation is Better
NYC may make money in short term from collecting tolls, but will hurt the economy long term. I definitely will avoid driving to Manhattan as long as tolls remain in effect.
Then take the subway.
That's the entire goal. Thank you
It’s not about collecting tolls. You completely missed the point. It’s about making drivers think twice about driving downtown when public transport is available, which by the examples of the video it’s already working very well
$15 by 2028 btw 😂
Good. Should be $15 now
@@darthmaul216go play in traffic 🤡
Are you driving a car though? HA! XD
It should be $15 now but Hochul still identifies more with suburbanites driving in than actual working class New Yorkers
It should be more than $15
Take the Train, Bus or Bike/E-Bike/Electric Scooter to Work or Anything Else Period what's the Point on Driving when you have all those Options to get into Manhattan
what if you live in outer-borough where the bus and train system are terrible? a 1 hour commute to work takes 1 hour 50 mins. dont be selfish and self serving in your thinking. if you are doing well financially to be able to live close to manhattan and pay that rent, then im happy for you. but don't ignore the struggles other people have to go through. everyones life situation is different.
@@TonyChen-gb1cx you are being selfish by driving and causing congestion because you can't be bothered to walk to public transit. if you can afford to maintain a car, then perhaps you could afford to live closer to your place of employment instead.
@@TonyChen-gb1cxPay it, work somewhere else or move closer and sell your car. How selfish of you to pump pollution and noise into every neighborhood on your way in your personal vehicle 🤣
Scooters must have tags they get toll as well bikes are next! Pay to play! America!
@@TonyChen-gb1cx💯truth. Punishing everyone else isn’t going to fix the congestion issue. Pure greed.
It’s time to take our city back. And stop these out of towners from making nonsense laws in our city. It’s a sad day in our beautiful city
That guy that said his son usually drives but now is taking the train… that’s exactly why the city did this. So I guess it is working lol
Its working now! Sooooon NYC will be over no one will give a damn about NYC.. there will be new NYCs..

WHY ARE ALL THE RICH PEOPLE ABOVE THE 60 street JUST GET TO SKIP THE PRICING.
4:22 "Normally he would drive, but now he's taking the train". THATS THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
People that don’t take the train is for a reason. This won’t change anything, only more funds to be mismanaged
Yeah. The reason is stupidity
Well. What is new now? Congestion Pricing has just gotten started. : )
"normally he would drive, but now he's taking the train". GOOD. Thats the POINT! 😂
I wish the money I pay in congestion pricing went towards benefiting drivers because I don’t take the train or the bus. So why am I paying money to improve a transit system that I won’t ever use? I will either be killed or go to jail if I take the subway. I payed the premium of owning a car so I didn’t have to deal with $2.90 worth of danger, delays and disgust. Now I have to pay a toll everyday to get to work??? The potholes are only getting deeper.
You pay extra for other people to ride safely and comfortably public transport so they don't drive a car which would make the traffic jams worse for you. :)
@@robbanto98 I see your point. In reality, there will always be traffic in lower manhattan; with or without tolls. If anything we're just pushing the traffic up north and into The Bronx while lower Manhattan is playing pretend like live in a low population city. The MTA has NEVER been able to budget correctly. We're just supposed to sit here and let the MTA take our money like the MTA is actually going to do something with it ..... right. We'll see the results of this plan soon enough. Nothing will get done. Our pockets will continue to hurt.
@@haroldoesntcare Either you believe that the trains and buses are going to benefit from this money (as you said in your first comment), or you don't believe it (as your second comment). You can't keep flip flopping and changing your core argument and make others play catch up.
Regardless of what you think this is going to reduce gridlocks, make driving easier and faster, and also bring a constant stream of revenue for the MTA which needs it to fund several QoL improvements such as accessibility.
Additionally do you need to be reminded that the subway is a much safer place than driving alongside road ragers?
The benefit to you is fewer cars on the road you drive to work.
@@AtulKedia I never flip-flopped on my opinion. You’re misunderstanding my point, and I’d suggest rereading my comments more carefully. My argument is consistent: I'm against paying congestion pricing when I won’t benefit from the transit system it funds, and I chose to drive to avoid the risks and frustrations of public transportation. If you’re going to debate my stance, please address what I actually said instead of twisting it into something I didn’t claim.
In my second comment, my opinion remains the same. I simply emphasize that I do not trust the MTA's word that they will use this money for what they say. Every year is the same. Only thing that changed this year is we get tolled $9. I promise everything will be the same. Humor me. Let's pretend it does work. The MTA will be jampacked with people traveling, services will be worse than they are now for a few years until can catch up and replace subway cars. Anyway, you actually made me laugh with your comment "the subway is a much safer place than driving alongside road ragers"" I needed that laugh, thanks lol.
They’re wasting their time protesting 🤦🏽
I better see cleaner and safer subways then. But honestly, if you're driving a family of 4, that's almost $12 in subway fares versus $9 in toll. I'll still drive but now I'm forced to pay $9.
just take the subway and stop complaining
Try his has got to be the stupidest most ridiculous reason to charge anyone and monetize or tax all those cars when they themselves have made this happen!!!!!! Wao man greed always finds a way
Imagine thinking that you are being robbed when you have to pay $9 to take 2 tons of metal into the middle of a dense city. Parking costs more then that bud
lol “peak hours” you mean anytime a rational person drives.
Right? 5a-9p weekdays and 9a-9p on weekends. That’s ’all-day’ rates. Literally sun up to sun down in summer.
Just take my paycheck Mr MTA. We shouldn't here about any fare raise in the future cause this for SPENDING ON infrastructure right.
I am a native New Yorker who has lived in the " congestion" zone of downtown Manhattan. I am against this rip off even though I have never owned a car. It is un American to charge a toll to simply use the street. And we see how our taxes are wasted. Yes, traffic is terrible. There must be a better way.
Keep whining
@matisayuv2-fu7we keep spending other people's money.
This will solve all of NYC congestion problems. Gotta love NY!
Dont worry. President Trump will fix it. Love my president
You're Telling me, You love a Racist Mf
Make the people who use the MTA....PAY
People need to move out of ny
Too expensive to move, too expensive to stay
I bet the MTA all sat down in a room brainstorming what the most convincing excuse they could come up with to charge people.
If they are forcing us to take the subway, then the subways better be safer!
Broadway? Like what makes all the avenues in manhattan need so much more attention than the rest of the city that ALSO has this problem, which will now be conflated by people trying to avoid the city?
The city says that the money is going to go to the MTA but I give it a year before the city starts moving the funds elsewhere to cover other costs.
The best thing to do is to stay out of NY as much as possible.
I feel that a personal freedom is essentially being held hostage here... the ability to drive your own car. Sure mass transit is great, but you have to rely on a schedule that may not coincide on your own as if you were driving your own car.
Driving a car is a privilege, not a right. It has nothing to do with personal freedom.
Are cars a right?
You are not entitled to drive where ever you want. They don’t want you driving in downtown Manhattan. Use public transport or don’t come
It's hilarious that some people think this will change the congestion.
This city is shot. More reasons to stay far away from it and never go there unless you really have to.
So many people triggered.
The drama is way over the top.
Ridiculous
Fake license plates and those digital license plates that people can turn off is gonna be so popular now. If New Yorkers won’t even pay the subway fee, what makes you think they will actually play by the rules and pay congestion pricing?
And how long do you think they can get away with it?
They should ban uber and Lyft if you want to free up traffic congestion. They are the ones who’s lobbied for this.
Thank you Democrats!
You can keep New York City. Your mindset and politics is terrible.

NJ could benefit from this. NY just pretty much sealed its fate so NJ can really step up & have its time to truly shine. I just hope they dont repeat the same mistake & make things super expensive like NY. Encourage all businesses & leisure activities currently in NYC to consider moving to NJ & give them some type of incentives. I myself am at a point where i don't even wanna shop in NY anymore because you know this congestion fee is gonna get passed to the consumer.
So great it is finally happened! We will keep hearing from unhappy drivers that congestion pricing is a bad thing, but reality is that drivers are unhappy no matter what. If you don't want to pay this toll, so don't drive to NYC because vast majority of newyorkers are not driving, we use subway, busses, and bikes
I guess you don't need to drive into Manhattan to Make a living....this toll is BS.
@limomangeno there are plenty of ways to make living in NYC without driving. People who drive in NYC take so much space now they just need to pay their fair share of using this space.
There's outrage now, but people will quickly adapt and get over it. The same thing happened in London, Stockholm, Milan, Singapore and more. Now virtually every resident of those cities say it was a good thing.
This is a great new ordinance! I hope they bring it to San Antonio next!
Ridiculous... NYC
This a money grab for MTA either way they get paid and deliver terrible service and never gets audit
