SYNOPSIS: TROPICAL CYCLONE GAEMI (#CarinaPH - 385km east-southeast of Tuguegarao city, Cagayan); SOUTHWEST MONSOON OVER THE COUNTRY.
DISCUSSION (BASED ON LATEST WIND, VIS/IR AND WATER VAPOR IMAGERY):
Tropical cyclone Gaemi (#CarinaPH) has been quasi-stationary for the past 3 hours while continuing to strengthen although the convective signature has slightly disappeared in the past 5 hours due to competing environment brought by 2 subtropical ridge centered northeast and southeast. It is expected to strengthen the southwest monsoon, the dominant weather system affecting the country. Due to the aforementioned weather systems affecting the country, cloudy skies with moderate to heavy rainshowers or thunderstorms will be experienced in Luzon that will be more frequent in the western part including Metro manila. Visayas and Mindanao will also be cloudy with scattered rainshower or thunderstorms that will be more frequent in western Visayas. Due to the slow movement of said tropical cyclone Gaemi (#CarinaPH), it is expected to strengthen the southwest monsoon that will cause heavy monsoon rains or thunderstorms in western Luzon including Metro manila within the next 2-3 days or almost entire week depending on the speed and intensity of tropical cyclone Gaemi (#CarinaPH).
