- Adding a nice concrete patio outside of the apartment in the woods. Grading the ground around the apartment, gravel, compacting, forms, pouring, and finishing concrete with a broom finish.
They're getting EVERY mile out of those tires...
If your around trucking that's not corporate trucks that's a pretty common sight
next rainy day.....over 35 mph........off to the hydro plane races.......hang on kids. (I wonder if he uses his seat belt)
They are on the tag axel and aren't on the road that much.
@johngaither9263 watch again
Gotta love those bald tires. Hope they don't get caught in a downpour!
OMG those tires.
Always fascinating to watch concrete workers and their tools and techniques. They sure earn their pay too.
It's definitely a hard way to make a living.
Nothing like running Maypops, on the highway 😂
So many comments about rebar. My guess is that the concrete had fiber reinforcement and they put crack lines in it. And im guessing itll never carry a load greater than patio furniture or maybe a dozen people
You can never discount the possibility of a Bus being parked back there 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm subscribed to a couple of concrete channels....it's always interesting to watch the process.
At first dump truck that for you to build gravel. We've been putting out a service for bold.Tires has driver's side
Exposed aggregate would have looked nice in your setting. More effort to do.
Looking good bud...Real nice behind shop..
u r property is liking really good Scott. keep the clips coming
Thats crazy. I work for srm concrete
Cripes...I got more tread on me arse than what those tires do
You’ve come a long way Scott! Glad to watch your success! You have a beautiful spot there.
That's a excellent caring crew. One can see that just by the plastic splash guarding the apartment wall. Nice patio Scott.
Good to get an early start on big pours when the temperatures are likely to go crazy. That patio will hold up well for years to come. Those added fibres and keeping it cool / damp while it cures properly will ensure that. Good job by the crew....
The apartment looks very cool. Did you design it yourself?
You have done such a nice job with the apartment, do you still plan on building a detached house?
Much luck on the new patio. Looking good !
I don't know about the rest of you, but whenever there was a pour near my house when I was a kid...there I was watching....I could watch this all day...and I don't know why..... LOLOL
116 here today . With temps like this everyday is rough for concrete . Drink a lot ,if u wait till U are thirsty u are allready in trouble from dehydration. Just a word to the wise !
G'day,
I'm in outer suburbs Melbourne Australia.
1 deg Celsius this morning.
Had a top temp of 9 deg. ⛱️
Would've loved a shot of a mixer climbing your hill.
i'm crying laughing at you zooming in on these bald ass tires
once it cures that new concrete pad is a good place to park the Scenicruiser for an extended stay
A very nice enhancement to your studio apartment, Scott. Much respect to those concrete workers. That's extreme labor-intensive work, especially on a hot day!
Man, Love the design of your home / studio.... I have been talking about doing the same thing for years... I would love to see the inside & maybe an explanation of where you sourced the Quonset hut shell & how you finished the inside... I'm ex US Airforce & saw these in England when I was young & fell in love with the design of them...
Have a look under playlists on Scott’s channel there are at least 4 videos on the Quonset build from 4 years ago
Are you going to build a covered patio or balcony from the loft?
Damn. Soo nice I'm so happy for you and your sweetie to have all this growth and changes. You have really crafted an amazing home. Thank you for the inspiration and constant updates!
I noticed no rebar?
Those tires had at least 10 more miles left on them. Did they forget the rebar?
Maybe after he dumped that gravel, he was headed to the local drag strip to lay down a 1/4 mile 😂
Check the live chat, he doesn't plan on having anything heavier than people and chairs...maybe a grill. The only rebar is what's coming from the main slab under the quonset/apartment.
No rebar required when you use fiber mesh. I did my house with it. Much easier!
Bald tires and that idle sounds terrible lol
HOA I vote NAY
Living it up keep it turned up to 11 and break the knob off
You really came a long way on your property compared to your former house 🎉🎉
Do you ever smell the fumes from the shop in the apartment? It seems like you would here n there but maybe you have some extreme filteration.
No. It’s got a vapor barrier inbetween
The concrete space looks really nice , and a great space with the pool in the background…..
Why?
I have two Detroit Diesel engines for sale. Both in perfect shape. One 8V-92 Silver bullet and one 6V-71. Anyone interested?
Nice work, looks very flat, no puddles
Why wasn’t any mesh used to hold the concrete that size and area wouldn’t be allowed in our building code even if it not build on but love watching those boys working
The dump truck driver must be good at ducking the DOT guys
Apparently that dump truck with the racing slicks on it doesn't go through inspection stations. 😁
That’s an impressive concrete agi! Great to see you getting ahead, folks.
So you used the fiber instead of rebar for strength right? Looks like a faster process that way. Looks awesome.
Truck tires were often regrooved ( and the cases were marked as such too) ,then, when the rubber got a bit thin you got them retreaded .But those look like high speed racing slicks.
Nice addition to your home!
For some reason tht looked way over 4 inches thick.
Love the apartment!!
That looks very nice as for sure
A beautiful job!
That dump truck has mago tires lol.
Even though it's outside I still would have put plastic under it and tied the two slabs together with rebar
There is rebar that was drilled into the building and inserted every 2-3 feet.
Why no rebar or mesh?
However, you've created a wonderful place for your family.
do you need a tenant, cause im ready to move in. Lol
nice job life and living
where is the rebar?
..and here, all this time..... I thought I was going bald..... *_Yikes_*
Nice, good job
Are those your handprints Scott?
Granddaughter
That looks beautiful! Hope you enjoy it. I'm about to build a quonset myself and was planning to put the end walls 2-3 arches (4'-6') inset so that the ends of slab itself would serve as patios, and they'd be covered by the overhanging arches. Do you think that makes sense? Any tips or considerations you can think of?
You will love the overhang. Do enough so you can enjoy the space in the rain. 8-10
@@BusGreaseMonkeyThat's great to hear! This is in the PNW so rain is definitely on the docket. Will aim for at least 8' then. Thanks!
Really nice home/work office you created Scott!
The fortress is coming along nicely. Its durable for anything nature can throw that direction. Built like a F-22 bunker
This was fascinating to watch.
They did all the hard work. But the cement truck driver made their job much easier by doing his job so good too
What do you think of the broom finish ? Pro's / con's to everything. I want the look of a perfectly finished smooth slab but then it would be slippery
Edit : Surprised to see no wire mesh, i saw the plastic fibers, maybe i dont understand the full depth of strength added by this product.
On a patio you need it. Otherwise would be very dangerous without it. They did it nice
Was that the dame company that did the oad for the shop?
Yes it was. He said it on the live chat log
Not 1 crack in the shop floor and lots of internet concrete experts said we would have lots of cracks. Amusing
@@BusGreaseMonkey that's really good to not have any cracks! Derek (Vice Grip) should of used your guy instead of who did his new barn pour. He had massive cracks all over that thing a few days later. They grinded them all out and filled them but still. He's not that far down the road from you.
No reo
Who else needed to pee ?
I don't ever see Mrs. Grease Monkey nor the St. Bernard.. are they both still hangin' out?
15 seconds look in the apartment
I am wondering why the new slab wasn't pinned to the existing concrete.
It is
Scott, they did an excellent job on the finish! Maybe fiber makes it not need rebar and mesh? That's a new one on me who hasn't poured concrete in the past 25 years but did plenty before that. Congrats on your growing estate on the mountain. You picked the perfect spot to settle!
He said in the live chat the only rebar is in the main slab under the quonset hut and the studio apartment as those need to support the building, the buses and the apartment. This is _only_ going to deal with foot traffic and people in chairs. Thus, no need for full rebar and using that fiber mesh instead.
When you say "studio apartment" are you referring to the entire structure?
The last 22 feet of the building is a studio apartment with a bedroom in the loft. About 800 sq ft open floor plan, 1 bathroom
How much is concrete a square?
It’s at 230 near me! In Erie county New York
wow, DOT would have a field day with that truck if pulled over,,,lol,,,matter of fact he would probably be parked until issues fixed. awesome looking patio, and the wood you have on the ends of your building looks beautiful!
how much was the cement work?
Way less expensive than a deck
I can’t believe the concrete company was able to run those tires that bald. In Texas the Highway Patrol would be all over them. That is going to be one nice patio. Lots of room, you going to put a hot tub out there? Big enough to have a dance party!
That isn’t the concrete company. It’s a contracted stone hauler.
And I think it's not a driving wheel dead axle
@@donaldhawkes5226there are more than one
No concrete mash needed?
Where is this? What State? Its so pretty
Tennessee
@@danielseelye6005 makes sense now. I'm in Virginia. Tennessee is beautiful.
And the tires on that dump truck are why I make sure I pass them quickly with a wide berth. Same with logging trucks. Worst maintained vehicles on the road generally.
Its not a patio, its a tennis court.
Less than 1/2 of one.
I would get someone to diamond saw the patio before it cracks❤.
Can you not see all the control joints in it?
All though you put fiber mesh in the concrete with a patio that size they should of put down some wire at least. Hope you don't get any unwanted cracks. Anyway enjoy your new patio.
It’s divided up into 7 much smaller segments with control joints.
No rebar?
Watch to the end Concert had fiber reinforced in it
@@robertusa1234 I didn't know that those fibers were a substitute for regard. Learn something every day.
Rebar or wire mesh in the concrete
Scott, no expansion strips, wire-grid or rebar 15 minutes into the video??
The patio furniture and grill are not heavy.
Don't think that tree will survive a year. 😮
It will be just fine. We get 80 plus inches of rain a year.
Why no steel mesh - Does is cause problems with local weather ?
Same reason we didn’t make the patio slab 12” thick. It’s a patio for people. It doesn’t need to be over engineered. Cost vs outcome. The Fiber added to the concrete will prevent cracking. The control joints added will take the stress of any settling. No heavy vehicles will be driven or parked on it.
Hmm no mesh? And no expansion joints? That’s a pretty big slab for neither. I know it has the fibers in the cement, but ide be worried That is going to crack and settle poorly. Even for just foot traffic you need mesh and expansion joints to keep it from coming apart from settling.
It’s got lots of control joints.
@@BusGreaseMonkey
Sorry, I meant expansion joints.
@@dodgeguyz lots of internet concrete experts also commented in our shop slab video saying it was going to crack everywhere too. News flash… hundreds of buses and three years later not one crack anywhere.
@@BusGreaseMonkey
I never seen that slab video. Just going by what I was taught after seeing this one. With the fibers it should be just fine. Just surprised they didn’t use mesh, it’s not that much more for it just for the peace of mind with all the rain there.
No rebar or wire mesh.
It’s a patio for people not vehicles. The fiber in it is great for this usage.
No rerod?
Internet concrete expert?
Bettin it was Tacos' and Burritos for lunch at this job site
Rude… but they were done and gone long before lunchtime
That comment was racist.
I'm trying to ponder what an incredibly sad life a person has to lead to leave a comment like this. Hope things look up for you, bud
Probably a 24 pack of Budweiser
Stooge
Is 😂it rude to ask how much all that costs
About $5 a sq foot. Way less expensive than a deck.
