My grandmother (God Rest Her) rode this train daily to and from work. After getting off at 242nd, she rode a bus to 262nd, then walked up Broadway, then Caryl Avenue in Yonkers. Every weekday for years.

Like yourself, your grandmother was a strong individual that didn’t let anything stop her. We can all learn from her commitment and strength and for that, we send blessings to you and your family who still mourns her passing. May she sleep in peace and Rise in Paradise.

When my son was little, he loved riding the subways, in the front car, nose right up against the window. Of course, I had to lift him up. The Broadway Local was our train. That's when we discovered the mystery 91st Street "stop". This video brings back those times...my son as a little guy, and these sights in the early '80s. Thanks!

@@AdrenalineLegends Ah! I've always been a Westside IRT and IND guy. Don't know nearly enough about the 6 Train, although I used to watch it turn around across from the old South Ferry Station. When I worked at the World Trade Center, I would get a seat back uptown by taking the 1 Train downtown from WTC...one stop and then everyone got off for the Ferry. Always got a seat then. I stumbled onto these subway videos by accident but I just love them. It could be in the blood because one of my ancestors helped design the BMT, but when I lived in NYC, when I rode trains, it was principally the IRT. I used to take the East side lines up to White Plains Road in the Bronx to go to work, and later when I lived in Yonkers I would take this train down to the West side to go to the Art Students League. So many memories, a lot of them very vague, but all of them fondly remembered, even the smell of piss and all that. I suppose a lot of it has to do with the fact that I was so much younger then. Days gone by and all that.

    • @wtaenyc
      @wtaenyc  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Wow. Thank you so much for sharing this but more importantly, thank you so much to your ancestor for their service to New York City. We take this time to thank them for contributing their genius to this system as we believe it is the heart of this city.
It is an honor to know that despite those days passing by, our content was able to bring you back a taste of those younger memories as it relates to this line. We hope that should you choose to watch more of our videos, you it can spark some more memories of those younger times. Thank you so much again and sending nothing but positive energy to you and your family. 🫡🫂

Ironically, back in the 70's-80's NYC subway trains, especially on the IRT lines, could whip up the speed! The #2 ran like a rocket when running Express mode in Manhattan. A shame that the system is generally slower here in the 21st century.

The old South Ferry turn around station was built in 1904. The new one opened just before Suoer Storm Sandy. As the lowest station in the system with NO PUMPS it was devastated and closed cleaned reopened and the corrosion returned closed again and completely rebuilt. The rebuilding cost almost as much as the initial building!

You can see a great recreation of the 04JAN derailment from 22:34- 22:46. The disabled 1 train on the local track somehow moved passed home signal 3413B (lever 288) set at red, traveled over the stop trip which failed to activate the brakes (main focus of investigation), and collided with the 1 train moving from express -> local. The lead car of the colliding train smashed into the side of the crossing over 1 train and stopped at the end of the crossover at 22:46.

The 1 would keep going along Dahil Road until it makes a turn on 18th Avenue, going along it.
The 1 would go elevated, like the same height as the F after Church Avenue.
It would make a stop at 18th Avenue - 49 - 50 Streets. Connection to the B8 and B11 Buses. Side platform. Middle track for yard trains and NIS trains.
The 1 would keep going along 18th Avenue, elevated.
It would make a stop at 55 Street. Connection to the B8 Bus. Connection is also available to the D, down 55 Street. Side platform. Middle track.
It would keep going along 18th Avenue.
After, it would make a stop at 18th Avenue - 62nd Street. Transfer to the N at New Utrecht Avenue, and 18th Avenue, and the D at 62nd Street. Connection to the B8 Bus.
It would keep going along 18th Avenue.
It would make a stop at 68 Street - Bay Ridge Avenue. Side platform. Middle track. Connection to the B8 Bus.
    Keep going along 18th Avenue.
It would make another stop at Bay Ridge Parkway. Side platform. Middle track. Connection to the B4 and B8 Buses. Connection is also available to the D at 79th Street.

Thank you so much for sharing those kind words as it relates to the quality of the content. You ask a great question and like we have shared with the others, we are team that has the necessary resources to bring you these experiences. Your guess as it relates to the camera positioning is pretty much accurate, as it is truly, in our opinion, what makes the content even more unique. @@wtaenyc You're welcome and these excellent videos are appreciated. At first I thought that the camera was mounted on the door, at floor level. Then as I looked at the height of the station platforms, next to the trains, I realized that the camera was mounted below the door close to coupler level. Smart choice! Adding to the quality of your videos is that the camera doesn't shake or vibrate. I rode the subway trains many times and you likely know that there are (or were) sections on the #2 and #6 lines that could make your teeth rattle!

1 train extension from South Ferry, sorry for the long delay.
The 1 would go from South Ferry to Brooklyn, in a tunnel that looks similar to the “Cranberry” tunnel on the Fulton Street Lines.
Maybe you could name it the “Raspberry” tunnel but it’s pretty funny.
When it reaches Brooklyn, the tunnel would change and look like the tunnel on the 63rd Street Line, and the two tracks would go parallel from each other.
It would make its first stop in Brooklyn at Remsen Street, with no connection to anything. The station would have brown bricks and a big stairway leading down onto the platform.
Next, the 1 would go in a more normal tunnel, similar to the 7th Avenue tunnel, which actually, the 1 was in! Well, it does go via 7th Avenue.
After, it would go along Remsen Street.
The 1 would make another stop at Clinton Street. This station would look normal, nothing out of the ordinary or something that stands out. No connection, but connection to the R is available if you walk to the Court Street Station on the R.
Then, it would turn and go along Clinton Street, and the tunnel would look like the 63rd Street Line again. The 1 would go slightly deeper underground, and would reach high speeds.
Finally, it would keep going along Clinton Street by the way, would make a stop at (actually, before you continue, I was planning on make a Joralemon Street stop for the 1, I actually typed it but again, my iPad updated and it got deleted. Now I’m rethinking that stop, but if you want it to be added in, just leave a comment.)
Anyway, it would stop at Schermerhorn Street, and the stop would have white bricks, and two escalators going up and down. No connection to anything.
Next, the 1 would keep going along Clinton Street in a tunnel similar to the Queens Boulevard Lines.
It would stop at Atlantic Avenue, and the stop would be “grand” with a big elevator and stairs/escalators. There would be white bricks and would look similar to the Lexington Avenue - 63rd Street stop on the 63rd Street Line and the 2nd Avenue Line.
There would be connection to the B61 and B63 Buses, and no trains.
After, it would go through a track change so the tracks could be next to each other, like for example, the F train on the Delancey Street stop.
It would make a stop at Congress Street, and it would look much like the local stops on the Queens Boulevard Lines. The (M) and the (R). There would be a middle track, used for yard trains and not in services, so they could skip it.
The 1 would keep going along Clinton Street after it makes another stop at Baltic Street. This station would have amazing artwork, and fancy stairs and walls. No connection. The elevator would really stand out, and basically the station would be fancy and would stand out.
After, it would go down Clinton Street and make a stop at Union Street. Ordinary stop, no transfers.
Next, the 1 would go down to Carroll Street. Connection to the F and G trains if you walk down Carroll Street.
The 1’s tunnel would change and look like a tunnel when a train goes into different boroughs, and would reach really high speeds.
Then, it would keep going along Clinton Street, and would make a stop at Nelson Street. The stop would be really bright and would actually stand out as a stop. No connection.
The 1 would then make a curve and and go along Nelson Street, and would then make another turn to go along Court Street.
It would make a stop at Court Street, with connection to the B57 Bus.
It would keep going along Court Street until it makes a turn and goes along Garnet Street. Not making a stop there.
The 1 would then go along Garnet Street, until it makes a turn, going along Smith Street.
It makes a quick stop there, at Smith Street, connection to the F and G at Smith - 9 Streets.
It would go along Smith Street, until it makes a turn on Centre Street, going along it and then going in a tunnel under the canal.
When it reaches the other side, it would go deep inside the other side and finally stop at 11 Street - 2nd Avenue. No connection, and the stop would look like my home stop, Kew Gardens - Union Turnpike. There would be a middle track, for NIS and yard trains. Anyway,, the 1 would terminate there. No tail tracks.
    Hope ya joined!
    Buh - Bye!

Part 4 of 1 train extension. (Final.) Look, I am sorry for dividing this extension into so much parts, but I don’t have many time on my hands and can’t do it in one huge part like the other ones. I am sorry for leading you on this goose chase.
The 1 would go from Bay Ridge Parkway, going along 18th Avenue.
It would stop at 81st Street. Connection to the B8 Bus. Connection is also available to the D train at 18 Avenue. Side platform. No middle track.
    Keep going along 18th Avenue.
The 1 would go over the D, because the 1 is more elevated.
It would reach high speeds, going along 18th Avenue, elevated.
After, it would stop at Bath Avenue. Side platform. Middle track. Connection to the B8 and B64 Bus.
The 1 would slightly go less elevated, (basically go down a bit) but still round the same height as the D on the West End Line.
    Keep going along 18th Avenue.
It would make its LAST AND FINAL stop at Shore Parkway North. (The stations name would just be ashore Parkway) with no tail tracks. There would be a middle track also stopping there, for yard and NIS trains. No connection.
    Well, that’s it.

I wonder if the distance from 14th Street to 18th Street is the shortest in the entire NYC system?? What makes the 18th Street Station necessary?

Great observation and question. It is definitely something that is up for debate, especially as it relates to the two stations on the Q line, Beverly Rd and Cortelyou Rd. We’d love to hear what others think.

Part 2 of 1 train extension! Let’s go! (I’m not done with it)
The 1 would go from 11 Street - 2nd Avenue in a tunnel similar to the Second Avenue tunnel, and would reach VERY high speeds.
The 1 would go along 11 Street, going over the 4th Avenue Line.
Then, it would make another stop at 11 Street - 5th Avenue. Connection to the B63 and B61 Buses. Side platform.
The tunnel would then be normal, and the 1 would go slightly more elevated. (Less underground basically)
After, it would keep going along 11 Street.
The 1 would make a stop at 8th Avenue. Island platform. Connection to the (F) and (G) trains. (Connection to the Culver Line) and B61 Buses.
The 1 would go elevated, but not too high. It would be similar to the Brighton Line. And the Dyre Avenue Line. (The 5).
It would go along 11 Street until it reaches Prospect Park West. It would go down along Prospect Park West, but on the side a bit.
It would make a stop at 14 Street - Prospect Park. Transfer to the (F) and (G). Connection to the B61 and B68 Buses. Side platform.
Then, the 1 would go down along Prospect Park West until it reaches 16 Street. It would go along 16 Street.
It would then turn and go along 10th Avenue.
Then, it would go back underground and turn and go along McDonald Avenue, making a stop there. Island platform. Connection to the B67 and B69 Bus Services.
The 1 would keep going along McDonald Avenue.
It would make another stop at Fort Hamilton Parkway. Side platform. Transfer to the (F) and (G). Connection to the B16, B67, B69, B103, BM3, and BM4 Buses.
Then, the 1 would turn and go along Dahil Road. Keep going along it.
It would stop at Church Avenue. Island platform. Transfer to the (F) and (G). Connection to the B16 and B35 Buses.
Next, the 1 would keep going along Dahil Road.
It would make another stop at Avenue F. Side platform. No connection.
The 1 would keep going along Dahil Road.
    Part 3 soon!
