    Now that is amazing skill with a chainsaw. Although those chips and sawdust would probably choked me half to death! In my younger days I had thought I might have liked to work as a lumberjack/logger for a season or two. But that is awfully damned hard work and dangerous as hell. Kudos to those brave and tough enough to keep the lumber flowing!

    It's always sad when a tree that magnificent dies. Hope you put it to good use at least. That's easily 2 winters worth of firewood, or a fortune of lumber assuming the trunk was healthy and solid further up.

      We did a big fir tree just like this one in British Columbia, still wouldn’t fall even after cutting 3 of the 4 pillars, ended up blasting it for safety reasons 😁

      Blasting was my thought also. Having one fall on me decades ago, I was in a state of constant cringe watching that. He has some mad skills demonstrated here. I would have said there was no way to predict which way that was going by fall but he obviously knew the lean. Great job and good luck.

    I was walking in the redwoods up in Humboldt County, windy day. Heard a loud crack above my head. Before I could react 10 feet away from me there was a loud thud, the ground shook and a giant branch 10 inches around 12 foot long, with a huge point on the end came down about 80 feet and impaled itself into the ground over 2 feet.😮.

    Super skilled. What's so dangerous about these trees is that regardless of where he placed the wedges if the wind catches the top of the tree it's just going to fall it in any direction it wants.

    Is there a road, way or path in the area where the tree can fell of? When no, why cut it down? For nature, birds, insects is a standing old tree better. But that's the humans way....

    After the best trees are culled out often all thats left are these trees on legs.
    They are often still growing.
    Some are so big you can walk inside and are as big as a lounge room.
    Tingle trees in West Australia are famous for nassive cavities.
    Plant more trees!!!!!!!

      We have way too many trees here in the Sierras, due to 150 years of fire suppression. Because of that, when we get wildfires the trees are so close together that they fire gets into the crowns of the trees. Couple that with an upslope wind, and they are unstoppable.

      Oh yeah? We have burnt trees all over here in the McKenzie valley with even less damage and after two years they've died. And the few trees that were left with bases like that have since either fallen or partially fallen now leaning on other dead trees making for one helluva widow maker situation.
      But you must know being an arborist.. 😂 I'm just a lowley wildland firefighter and logger, so what do I know?

    That is a scary freaking tree I've cut down some trees similar but never that big a lot of times we'll put straps around them and crank them down to stop them from Barber chairing or at least slow them down to give you time to run like a mad bastard

    The heavy storms and gales we seem to be getting more and more of this century have laid waste to many heavily wooded areas. We need to use more of that timber to produce more electricity instead of oil and diesel.

      Cedar is awful !!!! I have a mask for any time I'm working with it!! Otherwise it's sinus infection! Almost worse than any ailment I've ever had!!! Including shingles!
