    John I've been subscribed to you for like 3 or 4 years now, ever since you first got the Tormach PCNC 1100, it's really amazing watching you and Erik grow to this extent so far, watching your success and your enthusiasm through the years, it's something else. Congratulations on the new machine, I can't wait to see it hooked up and running.

    It's great to see the entrepreneur is alive and well in America, good luck. There is nothing like a new piece of equipment in the shop.

    • @Liberty4Ever
      @Liberty4Ever 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Canada is sort of America. :-)
      I totally agree with the entrepreneurial part. it seems that government is making it much more difficult lately to be productive and do your own thing. I was also thinking about the success of John and Erik without formal training. Ultimately all knowledge is self-taught. I love the way they've done this business. They've definitely focused on what matters.

    I first started watching your channel because I was considering LinuxCNC on a Grizzly G0602 lathe. I ultimately didn't buy the G0602 but I enjoyed watching your videos of that lathe. My, what a long way you have come since then.

  • @GnosisMan50
    @GnosisMan50 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hmm... (at the 13 min mark) would it be better if the CNC machine was turned to the right (lengthwise) as the new one is in the far back? It would give you a lot more room, it seems.

  • @VorsprungSuspension
    @VorsprungSuspension 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    ha you guys had a little more room to get that in there than we did! Does it already have the circuit breaker installed in the electrical cabinet door? That thing was a monumental bastard to install.

    • @JohnGrimsmo
      @JohnGrimsmo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Steven Mathews (Vorsprung Suspension) yes it did because it was already powered up at Elliott! Install here was easy. It'll be mine to drive tomorrow.

    A little off topic but I'm wondering if you would mind sharing what mic you use for recording the audio for your videos? I've been trying to find a really good mic for my GoPro but not having much luck. So I'm wondering what is the best way to get really good audio for TH-cam videos? Thanks for any info you care to share.

    Not being able to remove the conveyor kind of sucks, but if you do get a jam it looks like you should be able to slide it out far enough to fiddle with it. tossing it in at an angle is perfect, way better space utilization so in my books I call that better for you perfectionism than having it square ;) hell you decided to put it that way there for that's the right way!

  • @BenAtTheTube
    @BenAtTheTube 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice machine. The dual turret version would make the parts faster, but not much faster since you cannot keep both turrets cutting all the time. For example when transferring between spindles, neither turret is cutting. Of course, you could make most specialty little parts like that with an automatic screw machine or even a manual turret lathe faster than you can assemble them into knives. I like Haas machines, but even Haas uses machines from other companies to make their larger parts.

      You can remove the dent by putting something heavy, metal, and flat on the outside whilst hitting it with a hammer from the other. Slow hits will make it flat, if you tape the flat metal with electrician's tape, it will save the paint too.

    I would hate to be that guy, but how many screws/fittings/etc. could be brought in from a 3rd party supplier for the cost of that machine? At what point does this become a viable investment?

    • @Kallinenjp
      @Kallinenjp 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      One point to consider, for them to R&D a new part is far simpler in shop on a nice machine that to pay a machine shop to make part after part as they refine the design. Also, custom parts in general are quite expensive from a job shop. if John can keep this machine running it will easily pay for itself in no time, not to mention if regular maintenance is performed on the machine it could last him 20 years. he makes knives now, but what will John be doing in 5 or 10 years? its a lathe he can grow into, just like his mill.

      This is worldwide standard
