Splitting BIG Firewood - Last of the Titans - with

  • In this video I split up the last of the BIG rounds of firewood I have in the wood yard. Amanda was helping out so I had some added muscle to assist...lol...one big round was a double barrel crotch piece so was nice having an extra set of 'guns' to help.

    It is a rewarding feeling when those monsters are in the wood pile. We had some elm that size we split upon once, said never again.

    You make it look so easy!! You could prob 'get 'er done' using a little Wolfe Bumps splitter. Or maybe Bumpin' Billy Rae's splittin' hatchet. My own way would be to decrease my carbon footprint instead of running the splitter so long, and go ahead and cut that block with the chainsaw, with the grain about six ways, make a lot of fire starter confetti, then split what's left. Rasslin' blocks like that up on the splitter isn't good fun, if you stop and think about it.

    Tim from Canada do not know why you do not invest in a pair of forks for your woodlot you seem to be doing an off a lot of work with the bucket if you had forks on your bucket it would make your job a whole lot easier doing your reward processing.. you can buy a pair that goes read on your bucket.. i’m sure if you want to Kabota nurse them they could probably give you a pair of forks for a half decent price" it would make your job coming out of the bush a whole lot easier too

    Nice work Shifty, i would have burned that big round in the burn pit and not even tried to split it up, but you did it and got a lot out of it, also you need to work out with Amanda more she will get you butt back into shape, lol, but the channel can use a women's touch like that tractor work, my wife can't do that, and if i asked " hey honey i need for you to help me move this big round" she would give me the phone no. of the kid up the road to come over, she can use the Table Saw, Bandsaw, Router and the welder, but driving something, forget it. Stay Safe Dan and Amanda

    I have a Timberwolf TW5 with 36" splitting cylinder so as I can spit longer wood for my Hardy outdoor boiler. However, as seen in this video and 99.5% of all splitters (including mine), we have the same issue. Lots of (stringy) pieces will not completly pass thru the wedge, hence no complete split. Log has to be reversed and split at other end to complete split in half. Frustrating. Does anyone know of a Good Extender (with a cut out in middle so as to pass wedge) that we can use to resolve this issue? I want to make sure the extender makes complete use of the push plate on the spliter. I'm thinking maybe 2 pieces of thick steel on each side of the pushplate. Any ideas/suggestions?

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a interesting idea with the ram/plate that could push all the way past the wedge. I usually just end up using another piece of wood but yeah a lot of splitters stop like 2 inches before the wedge.

      Since I don't have a log lift I have to split then down or noodle then down..

    • @Back40Firewood
      @Back40Firewood  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes I do depending on the round, but for how long it takes me to rip/noodle with the MS291 I could have it split into manageable size pieces on the splitter so I usually just use the log lift and make it work.
