      I bought a D3400 thanks to this channel. It's been awesome (the camera and channel both) I hope he gets to review the Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 for Nikon in the future. I learned a lot using the "kit" 18-55mm but feel like I could finally move up to a faster lens that isn't expensive. PS The Sigma is much MUCH heavier than the 18-55 kit lens and is a little more intimidating out of the box. But you can get one for under $250 with a 77m UV filter now, which is nice.

    I always wanted an expensive camera. Thought an expensive camera can take better pictures, until I watched the videos of this genius and then I realised that it's not really the lens but who's behind it that takes awesome photos. And I bought my Nikon D3400. It's an amazing entry level dslr. Thanks for all your videos!!!

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the post/feedback Murali!:) Fully agree!:) A dynamic/unique/awesome image is not about the gear, rather it is about the person behind the camera. Camera gear can only do so much. The D3400 is a solid/capable camera in my opinion ... a good amount of knowledge and skill go a long way in this world of photography:).

    Again, another great video that provides just enough information to get anyone interested in going out with their equipment and taking some great photos. I believe that much of what makes great photography is in the artist's technique, and framing of his/her subject.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to be of help and fully agree!:) The resulting image is not so much about the camera as it is about the photographers ability to work the camera and set composition:).

    My goodness, you are talking to me in this video. I have been learning post for over four years but just started this year in really shooting. I got me a Nikon D5200, brand new, but yet an old camera. They are so inexpensive, what the heck for my first go round! I have just the one lens and a couple of adapters (macro and micro, which I will be surprised if they do much...LOL). I liked your tips on shooting portraits and will be testing this out this week. Will shoot aperture priority and see how things look. Thanks for the head start! One thing I like about photography is that even when your shot is not really good, you learn from it, so good or bad we learn something new!
    Thank you for your channel, enjoy it!

      Thanks for the post/feedback and glad to be of help!:) Many entry level cameras are very capable in my opinion ... a bit of technique and knowledge can go a long way:). I like aperture priority for portraits (Av on Canon, A on Nikon):). Aperture allows you to better control depth of field which is good for portraits.

      RealWorld wot if it is not very good background wot do i do than? Wud u use this camera at a wedding with a 50 to 200 lens or a 18 to 55 lens

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try to separate the subject from the background as much as possible. Separation will help to create better blur. The 18-55 is a good option along with the fixed 50 f/1.8. Using this camera to shoot a wedding might be challenging but doable to some extent:).

  • @HuckRock13
    @HuckRock13 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Was it ever difficult for you to start learning portrait photography? I have done a few that I would call portraits, but I primarily stick to animals, nature, and learning low light photography, in the hand-held form.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It takes a bit of practice, but once you get the hang of it, the process can be lots of fun!:) I can see the end results of many shots before I take the photo. Might sound a bit strange but once you understand the impact of post processing using Lightroom or something similar, you will gain a feel for the end result. Whenever someone wants to immediately see the results, I always say - be patient and you will be rewarded:). I do not mind showing they are quick preview on the back of the camera if you really want to see it, but I prefer for them to wait. It might be similar to buying a house ... if you see the house at the start of the build, you may not think much of it compare to seeing it fully completed:).

    well i own a d3500 and i always use the focus and recompose method. A lot of people say it is wrong especially with prime lenses. Do pro photographers use this method and did you do the same here? Should i use one of the 11 focus points which is closer to my subject?

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know many photographers that lock focus and recompose (using prime lenses as well):). Is it wrong - no:). I believe there are many ways to approach a photo and not certain there is one absolute right method as proof is in the results. If there is a drastic difference in exposure after recomposing, I may use one of the focal points.

  • @mehdi.bassamtabar
    @mehdi.bassamtabar 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My understanding (which might be wrong) is that the lower the number of aperture you have - aka wider apreture - the better and more blur or bokeh you will have. So makes me wonder why you use around f5 on most photos, rather than the lowest possible on the kit lens which is 3.5? or is it that my understanding is totally wrong? thanks :D

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the post/question Mehdi:). You are on the right path ... the lower the number, the wider the aperture, the better the bokeh. The widest aperture is 3.5 on the 18-55 at 18mm and the widest at 55mm is 5.6. If you see f/5 on some photos, I was most likely close to 55mm:). This is what makes the fixed 50 ( th-cam.com/video/e2TZVu7yZig/w-d-xo.html ) or 35 ( th-cam.com/video/BG0eZZaMmYE/w-d-xo.html ) nice - a wide open aperture of f/1.8:).

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to be of help Mehdi!:) The focal length is determined by personal preference and scene composition for the most part, although the wider the angle, the wider the aperture. When shooting with a zoom lens, I typically stay 30mm or higher. One dedicated lens to consider is the fixed 50 ( th-cam.com/video/e2TZVu7yZig/w-d-xo.html ) or fixed 35 ( th-cam.com/video/BG0eZZaMmYE/w-d-xo.html ) both of which are great for portraits, low light situations, etc.

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I recently released a video on the 35 which can be found here - th-cam.com/video/BG0eZZaMmYE/w-d-xo.html and the 50 which can be found here - th-cam.com/video/e2TZVu7yZig/w-d-xo.html ... both are solid and great additions to any bag in my opinion. You could wait if you want but should be fine to tackle both at the same time. The 18-55 will be the go-to lens but the 35 and/or 50 will be go-to for various situations (portraits, low-light, etc.).

    Prime lens can get us more bokke effect??

    • @RealWorld
      @RealWorld  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they can typically get more bokeh (background blur). The bokeh is not caused by the fixed lens, rather it is caused by the aperture. Most fixed lenses can open wider than zooms, so fixed lenses are typically better at producing great bokeh (like the fixed 50 and fixed 35 which i recently reviewed):).
