You were right about being mad. You’re crazy. Those mini figure packs were the best. That is my biggest disappointment with modern Lego. They should have those with almost every line. Maybe put animals in them depending on the theme.
I know this is just opinion but the hate for Royal Knights Castle and Dark Forest Fortress is insane. They are both great sets with solid play features. I don't understand how you can call Royal Knihhts Castle a mess, it has one of the best layouts and looks of any Lego Castle of all time. Like top 3 Castles
Fully agree! I think that kind of bias is just ridiculous for people having a solid knowledge of classic LEGO Castle sets. I own every single castle from 1978 to 2000, and I can confirm that the Black Knight's Castle and the Royal Knight's Castle have the most aesthetically pleasing looks. In addition, the Royal Knight's Castle can be combined with the Royal Drawbridge (which was degraded as well), making the castle even more monumental.

I think Dark Forest Fortress is the best Dark Forest set, and works just as well for the original Forestmen too, my only issue is having the black knights shield for the Dragon Masters.
The fact that you ranked Royal Knights sets from the mid-1990s in the “F” tier compared to a bunch of mini figure sets in the “D” tier is absolutely ridiculous. Your video is ok, but I’m disappointed with your opinions on these matters, as they are misjudgments of their value, charm, and the efforts that ultimately went into producing their designs. 🏰
The mass psychosis against witches magic manor is so unwarranted. Its nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be. There is a cool contraption for the witch, a dragon, a cool knight, a secret door mechanism, a rock you can drop. As a kid, I loved it.
As a mid 30s LEGO fan I wasn't sure what you meant by the opening warning, until you hit YOUR childhood sets LOL. Still I've got 8/12 of your S tier (Missing the 3-in-1 castle, OG market, Black Dragon castle, and Green Dragon hideout) Oh and I know of at least one set you missed: 853373: LEGO Kingdoms Chess Set (Which I'd rank at least A tier for the sheer number of minifigs you get in a single set. 28 all together.)
6080 is the first big grey castle and set the bar for all future castles and it’s somehow relegated to C tier behind BURP-filled Dragon Masters junk? Madness. I love your work man, and any ranking is subjective, but suffice it to say that I think this one in particular is way off.
Seeing the Bull Knights in the context of all the other themes, they seem to be the most advanced castle faction. They're loaded with brigandine torso prints and cannons, which puts them in the back end of the medieval technological progression and pushing into the early Renaissance. Lego really needs to revive the castle wall section sets, preferably as part of a line of modulars: walls, towers, gates, don jons, keeps, and other fortification sections which you can plug-and-play to build your own custom castles. Fantasy era remains my favorite castle theme, especially the crown knights and the trolls as villains, but the green dragon knights and lion knights were an excellent successor. The joust with the black falcon might be my favorite castle set. I really like the revival sets (except the GWPs kind of fall down, especially the workshop), but there's just something about the joust set with the wall sections, the unique black falcon knight, and the rest that makes it stand out.
Now I don't think this is extremely useful to do, except that it's fun :) Personally I have a softer approach to the older sets. Having extremely critical opinions of armybuilding sets of earlier times, while being quite positive on more modern ones is definitely not a consistant way to judge. I think armybuilding sets are somewhat of a necessity if the sets do not include enough minifigures, or are prohibitively expensive. (or both) In the end, having a more consistant look towards these compared to their times is a little more fair, instead of judging older sets for having less detailed prints on them or less varied accessories. (as they weren't available yet) I'm not a huge fan of fantasy era stuff either. I think it is fun to have fantasy style lego, including dragons, dwarves, trolls or whatever, I just don't think it fits with the Castle theme. Some of these sets have great looking dragons, or great looking minifigures, but nearly all the castles, walls or siege engine sets don't look great. Similary, for the Viking sets, while I love the vikings in a medieval setting, the sets had a far too mechanical look, or even a slightly science fiction look to it, which is fun .. but not castle or medieval theme. Comparing modern sets of the last few years is also not entirely fair. These are way higher in quality, building experience, amount of detail and piece count, but also cost extreme amounts of money. Comparing Medieval Town Square to Market Village for example, which are relatively similar sets, are 130 dollars apart in retail value. (about a 100 adjusted for inflation) Keeping that in mind, the Market Village did come close, for a way reduced price. If we ignore price at all, I would make an S tier above all the other castle sets for modern castle sets, at the very least for the Lion Knight's Castle, the Viking Village, the Medieval Blacksmith and the Medieval Town Square. Even the 3 in 1 Creator Castle set, despite not liking the original designs a lot, is an amazing piece set, that has a ton of alternative Moc designs built with it, or with multiple sets that makes it worthwhile. I would probably put most of the Kingdoms line over just about anything else in A tier. I would buy nearly all of them if they were sold at retail price today, in particular the Joust set and the Mill Village Raid are just awesome. I would also put Market Village in this tier of set. As final (lowest for me) additions to this tier are the more fantasy oriented Troll boat (it does look cool) and the Dwarf mine, which seems like a great playset too even though I don't think both of them belong in Castle as a theme. It is time for a true castle line, that fits with the modern designs we have today. Additional factions that we know, or perhaps a new one or two are sorely needed, as is including lower priced sets. (and not just 1, but a bunch of them) It is just ridiculous that there is no sets at all below 100 dollars, not even a complete line .. just a few very high priced sets. We have a bunch of nonsense Marvel stuff, a bunch of nonsense DC stuff, some extremely ugly ninjago sets, we have Starwars that is popular but I couldn't give one rats ass about and even the City Lego is pretty barren of good sets. One line of Castle or medieval themed stuff would seriously revive Lego, if they can keep the high quality of the current sets, they will sell and be very popular.
This was my exact conclusion at the end of my post (and at the end of the video). It has been way too long since a proper castle line. If they can stick to the quality of the current larger sets, but make a more complete line with larger and small builds and a few minifigure packs, it would sell like hot cakes. The most important things would be civilian buildings like a farm, a mill, a tavern with a ton of minifigures and animals.

9:30 The early 1990s were my prime LEGO years and the play value of set 1584: Knight's Challenge absolutely cannot be overstated for this era. All of the figures were unique! Two cool knights with squires, an audience, a princess and a drunken peasant with a keg of ale! Best. Set. Ever.

As someone that is also a bit older I don't mind having some of the older sets a bit lower, but I would have liked to see a little more consistancy on sets that were similar. Judging different boats, crossbowcarts or even minifig armybuilding packs very differently seems a bit odd. The only reason would be if the set would be a very much improved version that deserved a higher ranking or a very much reduced version that was lower. Even the older battlepacks had good knight minifigures, at least compared to it's time.
This was interesting to watch, but nostalgia plays a huge role. I was a Lego kid in the late 90s early 00s so a couple of the Ninja sets were ranked too low, but 100% agree the most recent sets are all great
I would like to know where you would put the BrickLink Mountain Fortress. I never had any castle sets as a kid, but used to play with my cousins with the original yellow castle. My love for the castle theme really only came with the new Lion Knights Castle and the Mountain Fortress. Due to a lack of space, I didn‘t get the town square and the viking village, but I adore both. My problem with older sets is mostly that I never liked the design of them… they always used strange color schemes and a lot of huge, cheap looking printed wall pieces… the knight minifigs were always cool, though.
To see the Fright Knights ugly base higher than the Forestmen base makes my heart bleed, but I totally understand it's very subjective after all. Cool to see all the sets in one video!

I received 6059 as a gift from my granny (greetings to the heavens!) back in the days. Actually, it was one of my biggest castle sets. Many years later (and many purchased sets from eBay later), i was going through my stuff at the attic lately. And to my surprise, i even have two of these sets today. I totally forgot that i even got myself a second one. Hey, both combined would already form a small Castle 😂
Loving the nostalgia. 100% agree on #1 S tier! Curious to know where you would rank the Bricklink designer castle sets, i.e, Castle in the Forest and Black Falcon’s Mountain Fortress. In my opinion the latter has potential to be a really sort after classic.

my favourite set from my childhood is the "Black Knights Castle", it just has everything you can ask for in a classic castle set and it looks stunning by itself or in addition to other castle sets. even has 4 mounted knights and a ghost!
Seems like a very complete castle. I don't like that they didn't include an interior pretty much, but none of the sets basically did that at this time. I also don't like that it is built using a ton of larger pieces, which is not very fun to build. Other than that it is a solid set for sure. It retailed for 75 dollars back in the day, which feels pretty good value, despite being only 588 pieces. (due to having all these larger wall elements) Even adjusted for inflation, that still seems like a good deal for 4 horses, 12 minifigures and a pretty large castle.
I agree with your S tier choices; from '78 to '92 I had almost every castle set made (also all the pirate stuff) got back into Lego in the 2000's but focused on technic stuff till the Blacksmith's forge came out and now am disgustingly hooked on castle again 😂 The Lion Knights' Castle is possibly the best set Lego have made regardless of theme
I had the Dark Forest bandits and The Magic Shop. We were poor lol I didn’t realize those small dragons existed until I was an adult! And now I have probably 5 or 6 green and maybe 3 black. I love them. I’m pretty sure all the tiny cart or boat sets filled in the lowest price tier.
Joust is a STELLAR set, especially if you have two or more to combine. Oddly though, it was a total shelf-dog when I worked at LEGO. Sales didn't pick up until the set was due to retire, and that was just due to resellers/speculators, not Castle fans. 😐
I grew up with the 2013 Lego castle. And Lotr all grouped together. And with all of that I say you definitely are over hyping the dragon mountain set. I got it have it. And I made a giant moc based on it. And it looks pretty sick ngl. But the actual set is really small. Especially because that time LEGO was the worst with their mini figs. But I agree with most of this list. Except for the newest town square. And the creator castle. Definitely both C’s. But I absolutely cannot wait to get that purple torso and legs from it. That’s gonna be my new faction. With probably the D&D shield. And pearl gray armor. Thanks for another video though!!!!
My favorite faction and Lego set of all time are the Wolfpack ones. I was very surprised when you gave 6075 an S tier! I thought I’d be lucky to get B tier. One of my other favorite sets is the Blacksmith 3739 from 2002. I saw it in one of my Lego magazines back in the day and always wanted it. I am currently working on piecing it together.

blacksmith came out when i was still a broke boy and i didnt get the chance to buy it but a couple years later i got the 3in1 castle and i am now completely into castle and looking for more ways to spend all my money, yes im still watching
Wooooowee! This is going to be a long controversial rant! =))) While I agree the battlepack not being soemthing special (if only I had the foresight of these minifigs being so valuable now - and bout 100 of each!) I do have some stern words on your castle choices. I agree most of us could kill for a few of those battlepacks now, however back then, you really didn't need them unless you just didn't get the big sets with 12 + knights. Regarding what I find poor choices, the big castles (even the Fright Knight Castle) should at least be around A or B. They are for the most part really nice. I do agree we should be getting a few remakes soon, and I do agree with your first 3 S tier sets - however, the Black Knights Castles is THE BEST castle set ever. No contest there. Another issue I see with you ranking the Black Forest really low because you think they would have been better as wolfpack - the way I saw them back then, they were Wolfpack + Forestmen (because they had a robon hood head and a wolfpack head , and 2 new ones that looked fancy as well). Maybe they should have made a combo crest or used both wolfpack and Forestmen shields? That's how I would have done it. If you ever find yourself with time on your hands, I would suggest you re-do this tier list, but with all the alternate models taken into consideration. Some of these sets have wicked good alternative models (Fire breathing fortress was my favorite with a huge Spiraling tower). When I was a wee little fellow, I really wanted that thing (not sure why to be honest, looking at it I can admit it isn't great - but I think I saw the potential what I could do to it with some of my pieces ) . I got to the fantasy era now - I think the builds there (well most of them at least ) were really up to par with the 80s and 90s castkes. The best we had honest. And I noticed you didn't do nexo knights. You are doing yourself and the community a disservice for not including them. Sure, 50% of those sets are unusable (unless you are a huge space fan like myself) but the other half, the villains, goodness - they are as good or even better than the fantasy era villains. You should have had them in, even if they are ... a bit special. I myself re-started my path down the expensive and space eating side with the nexo knights, and I loved them for what they were. I do agree with the love you've showered Lego Kingdoms with (it's a real shame they didn't keep that for another year instead the juniorized sets the year after they finished this). Also not sure if you've missed that, or you just didn't have time to talk about that, but the Knights Kingdom gate set (the one with the dragon barding for the horse) is supposed to be set next to the big green dragon castle and enclose it at the back. Regarding the new 2020+ sets, I agree on all, except the Majisto set. That set held so much hope for us, and shattered everything they could shatter (the only worst thing they could have done is put a lion knight instead of the dragon ... something we got )
The Forestmen's Outpost has always been my top Forestmen set. I think it deserves to be higher if for no other reason than it comes with 6 minifigs and a horse.
the set 6080 must be the second on your list on the top, just after the new realise of the Lion Knight Castle 10305! Buy it if you can find on the after market and you will know why is probably the best castle (after the 10305), even realise!
For Castle fans (like me) VERY watchable. I think people might argue with you about the Dark Forest Fortress, which I don't own but many people list as one of the best Castle sets. I'd love to buy that, but no WAY I could afford it. Top on my Wish List is Mistlands Tower for some reason. I don't know why, I just think it looks cool.
Kings castle C tier?! I wanted this so badly as a kid and I finally got the set last week. It’s A tier for me. Should have been at least B tier as it’s better than the Knight’s castle. And yes, born in 1975. 😂
I feel like the really modern castle/viking sets get way too much love because they're all we have. Sure they look great but for its insulting how few minifigures they include for the price point. Kids wanting to get into castle wont be able to get enough of the figures to have a real army unless their parents go to pick a brick to buy the peices individially. In general i think your ranking is often unfair to smaller cheaper sets (such as single towers, or 2 minifures and a catapult) which while not perfect on their own, really help to expand on the larger sets in their theme, and have enough peices to encourage kids to build other things.
Didn't know the green ninjas are so expensive. I have some ninja sets but I'm not a fan. (Nor do I count them or the vikings to the castle theme.) My list would be fairly similar except I would drop some fright nights to a bit lower. Most of the small sets just look bad and as such should be ranked with other similar sets from other factions. One set that I would rank clearly higher is the mountain castle with a raised baseplate and a ghost. And, no I didn't have that set as a kid but IMHO it uses well the baseplate and has a unique silhouette for a castle. Also as a castle fan my A tier would include much more sets.
if im being honest i think all black falcon castle mocs have the right no its neccessary for every black falcons castle moc to have the same yellow/blue look as the 3 in 1 castle
honestly i see more value in mini figures so if a set has a medium to high amount ratio'd to the build i will always go for that unlike a big build with few or no mini figures, unless it's a clone wars mini ship (munificent)
27:48 Actually, they stopped using that helmet a long time ago That old Samurai helmet was replaced back in... 2012 I think? This was during Ninjago's first season: Rise of the Snakes. You may know Nya as Samurai X but what's important here is that she got a new helmet. The new samurai helmet is compatible with her chin guard unlike the old samurai helmet which was too wide. The last time I remember them using the classic Samurai helmet was in the year before in 2011 when they were airing Ninjago's pilot episodes. It was used by Lord Garmadon but his future variations aswell as his legacy figure remake either use the new helmet or the version that was introduced in the Lego Ninjago Movie Also yes, I am a Ninjago fan (despite never owning any official sets because I'm broke but I like watching the show and being in the fandom)
I wonder how you would rate the old Lego Castle Chess sets (and Tic Tac Toe).... Brickset has them under the Gear/Board Games instead of with the rest of the Castle stuff (where bricklink has them sorted into)... I personally wanted 852293: Castle Giant Chess Set as a kid, sadly it's over a grand for a used one on the aftermarket
I don't like trolls, and big minifigs in Lego is a big no no for me personally. What's the point if you can't assemble them, and they are so huge, just no. The troll theme gives it more fantasy vibes, like it should be in LOTR franchise, not the classic medieval castle. I like the dragons though, even if they are also fantasy, somehow they fit better with classical castle. But most importantly of all castles I've seen here nothing beats the new Lion's knights castle. I don't want nothing before that. Maybe medieval market village and town square would fit nicely with it. You need nothing more.

I'm not a huge fan of fantasy era stuff either. I think it is fun to have fantasy style lego, including dragons, dwarves, trolls or whatever, I just don't think it fits with the Castle theme. Some of these sets have great looking dragons, or great looking minifigures, but nearly all the castles, walls or siege engine sets don't look great. Similary, for the Viking sets, while I love the vikings in a medieval setting, the sets had a far too mechanical look, or even a slightly science fiction look to it, which is fun .. but not castle or medieval theme.
Comparing modern sets of the last few years is also not entirely fair. These are way higher in quality, building experience, amount of detail and piece count, but also cost extreme amounts of money. Comparing Medieval Town Square to Market Village for example, which are relatively similar sets, are 130 dollars apart in retail value. (about a 100 adjusted for inflation) Keeping that in mind, the Market Village did come close, for a way reduced price.
If we ignore price at all, I would make an S tier above all the other castle sets for modern castle sets, at the very least for the Lion Knight's Castle, the Viking Village, the Medieval Blacksmith and the Medieval Town Square. Even the 3 in 1 Creator Castle set, despite not liking the original designs a lot, is an amazing piece set, that has a ton of alternative Moc designs built with it, or with multiple sets that makes it worthwhile.
I would probably put most of the Kingdoms line over just about anything else in A tier. I would buy nearly all of them if they were sold at retail price today, in particular the Joust set and the Mill Village Raid are just awesome. I would also put Market Village in this tier of set. As final (lowest for me) additions to this tier are the more fantasy oriented Troll boat (it does look cool) and the Dwarf mine, which seems like a great playset too even though I don't think both of them belong in Castle as a theme.
It is time for a true castle line, that fits with the modern designs we have today. Additional factions that we know, or perhaps a new one or two are sorely needed, as is including lower priced sets. (and not just 1, but a bunch of them)
It is just ridiculous that there is no sets at all below 100 dollars, not even a complete line .. just a few very high priced sets. We have a bunch of nonsense Marvel stuff, a bunch of nonsense DC stuff, some extremely ugly ninjago sets, we have Starwars that is popular but I couldn't give one rats ass about and even the City Lego is pretty barren of good sets.
One line of Castle or medieval themed stuff would seriously revive Lego, if they can keep the high quality of the current sets, they will sell and be very popular.

This was my exact conclusion at the end of my post (and at the end of the video). It has been way too long since a proper castle line. If they can stick to the quality of the current larger sets, but make a more complete line with larger and small builds and a few minifigure packs, it would sell like hot cakes. The most important things would be civilian buildings like a farm, a mill, a tavern with a ton of minifigures and animals.

As someone that is also a bit older I don't mind having some of the older sets a bit lower, but I would have liked to see a little more consistancy on sets that were similar. Judging different boats, crossbowcarts or even minifig armybuilding packs very differently seems a bit odd. The only reason would be if the set would be a very much improved version that deserved a higher ranking or a very much reduced version that was lower. Even the older battlepacks had good knight minifigures, at least compared to it's time.
This was interesting to watch, but nostalgia plays a huge role. I was a Lego kid in the late 90s early 00s so a couple of the Ninja sets were ranked too low, but 100% agree the most recent sets are all great

I would like to know where you would put the BrickLink Mountain Fortress. I never had any castle sets as a kid, but used to play with my cousins with the original yellow castle. My love for the castle theme really only came with the new Lion Knights Castle and the Mountain Fortress. Due to a lack of space, I didn‘t get the town square and the viking village, but I adore both. My problem with older sets is mostly that I never liked the design of them… they always used strange color schemes and a lot of huge, cheap looking printed wall pieces… the knight minifigs were always cool, though.

I received 6059 as a gift from my granny (greetings to the heavens!) back in the days. Actually, it was one of my biggest castle sets. Many years later (and many purchased sets from eBay later), i was going through my stuff at the attic lately. And to my surprise, i even have two of these sets today. I totally forgot that i even got myself a second one. Hey, both combined would already form a small Castle 😂
Loving the nostalgia. 100% agree on #1 S tier! Curious to know where you would rank the Bricklink designer castle sets, i.e, Castle in the Forest and Black Falcon’s Mountain Fortress. In my opinion the latter has potential to be a really sort after classic.

my favourite set from my childhood is the "Black Knights Castle", it just has everything you can ask for in a classic castle set and it looks stunning by itself or in addition to other castle sets.

Seems like a very complete castle. I don't like that they didn't include an interior pretty much, but none of the sets basically did that at this time. I also don't like that it is built using a ton of larger pieces, which is not very fun to build. Other than that it is a solid set for sure. It retailed for 75 dollars back in the day, which feels pretty good value, despite being only 588 pieces. (due to having all these larger wall elements)
Even adjusted for inflation, that still seems like a good deal for 4 horses, 12 minifigures and a pretty large castle.
Recently got my first ghost minifig for my birthday. Still glows!

I agree with your S tier choices; from '78 to '92 I had almost every castle set made (also all the pirate stuff) got back into Lego in the 2000's but focused on technic stuff till the Blacksmith's forge came out and now am disgustingly hooked on castle again 😂 The Lion Knights' Castle is possibly the best set Lego have made regardless of theme

Joust is a STELLAR set, especially if you have two or more to combine. Oddly though, it was a total shelf-dog when I worked at LEGO. Sales didn't pick up until the set was due to retire, and that was just due to resellers/speculators, not Castle fans. 😐

I grew up with the 2013 Lego castle. And Lotr all grouped together. And with all of that I say you definitely are over hyping the dragon mountain set. I got it have it. And I made a giant moc based on it. And it looks pretty sick ngl. But the actual set is really small. Especially because that time LEGO was the worst with their mini figs. But I agree with most of this list. Except for the newest town square. And the creator castle. Definitely both C’s. But I absolutely cannot wait to get that purple torso and legs from it. That’s gonna be my new faction. With probably the D&D shield. And pearl gray armor. Thanks for another video though!!!!

My favorite faction and Lego set of all time are the Wolfpack ones. I was very surprised when you gave 6075 an S tier! I thought I’d be lucky to get B tier. One of my other favorite sets is the Blacksmith 3739 from 2002. I saw it in one of my Lego magazines back in the day and always wanted it. I am currently working on piecing it together.

While I agree the battlepack not being soemthing special (if only I had the foresight of these minifigs being so valuable now - and bout 100 of each!) I do have some stern words on your castle choices. I agree most of us could kill for a few of those battlepacks now, however back then, you really didn't need them unless you just didn't get the big sets with 12 + knights.
Regarding what I find poor choices, the big castles (even the Fright Knight Castle) should at least be around A or B. They are for the most part really nice. I do agree we should be getting a few remakes soon, and I do agree with your first 3 S tier sets - however, the Black Knights Castles is THE BEST castle set ever. No contest there.
Another issue I see with you ranking the Black Forest really low because you think they would have been better as wolfpack - the way I saw them back then, they were Wolfpack + Forestmen (because they had a robon hood head and a wolfpack head , and 2 new ones that looked fancy as well). Maybe they should have made a combo crest or used both wolfpack and Forestmen shields? That's how I would have done it.
If you ever find yourself with time on your hands, I would suggest you re-do this tier list, but with all the alternate models taken into consideration. Some of these sets have wicked good alternative models (Fire breathing fortress was my favorite with a huge Spiraling tower). Have a look at this channel below for some details and ideas:

And I really think you are being waaaay too hard on the witch's manor. When I was a wee little fellow, I really wanted that thing (not sure why to be honest, looking at it I can admit it isn't great - but I think I saw the potential what I could do to it with some of my pieces ) .
I got to the fantasy era now - I think the builds there (well most of them at least ) were really up to par with the 80s and 90s castkes. The best we had honest.
And I noticed you didn't do nexo knights. You are doing yourself and the community a disservice for not including them. Sure, 50% of those sets are unusable (unless you are a huge space fan like myself) but the other half, the villains, goodness - they are as good or even better than the fantasy era villains. You should have had them in, even if they are ... a bit special. I myself re-started my path down the expensive and space eating side with the nexo knights, and I loved them for what they were.
I do agree with the love you've showered Lego Kingdoms with (it's a real shame they didn't keep that for another year instead the juniorized sets the year after they finished this). Also not sure if you've missed that, or you just didn't have time to talk about that, but the Knights Kingdom gate set (the one with the dragon barding for the horse) is supposed to be set next to the big green dragon castle and enclose it at the back.
Regarding the new 2020+ sets, I agree on all, except the Majisto set. That set held so much hope for us, and shattered everything they could shatter (the only worst thing they could have done is put a lion knight instead of the dragon ... something we got )

The Forestmen's Outpost has always been my top Forestmen set. I think it deserves to be higher if for no other reason than it comes with 6 minifigs and a horse.

the set 6080 must be the second on your list on the top, just after the new realise of the Lion Knight Castle 10305! Buy it if you can find on the after market and you will know why is probably the best castle (after the 10305), even realise!

For Castle fans (like me) VERY watchable. I think people might argue with you about the Dark Forest Fortress, which I don't own but many people list as one of the best Castle sets. I'd love to buy that, but no WAY I could afford it. Top on my Wish List is Mistlands Tower for some reason. I don't know why, I just think it looks cool.

I feel like the really modern castle/viking sets get way too much love because they're all we have. Sure they look great but for its insulting how few minifigures they include for the price point. Kids wanting to get into castle wont be able to get enough of the figures to have a real army unless their parents go to pick a brick to buy the peices individially.
In general i think your ranking is often unfair to smaller cheaper sets (such as single towers, or 2 minifures and a catapult) which while not perfect on their own, really help to expand on the larger sets in their theme, and have enough peices to encourage kids to build other things.

Didn't know the green ninjas are so expensive. I have some ninja sets but I'm not a fan. (Nor do I count them or the vikings to the castle theme.)
My list would be fairly similar except I would drop some fright nights to a bit lower. Most of the small sets just look bad and as such should be ranked with other similar sets from other factions. One set that I would rank clearly higher is the mountain castle with a raised baseplate and a ghost. And, no I didn't have that set as a kid but IMHO it uses well the baseplate and has a unique silhouette for a castle.
Also as a castle fan my A tier would include much more sets.
Sets that I do count as castle line include: 19001, 910001 and 910029

honestly i see more value in mini figures so if a set has a medium to high amount ratio'd to the build i will always go for that unlike a big build with few or no mini figures, unless it's a clone wars mini ship (munificent)

Actually, they stopped using that helmet a long time ago
That old Samurai helmet was replaced back in... 2012 I think? This was during Ninjago's first season: Rise of the Snakes. You may know Nya as Samurai X but what's important here is that she got a new helmet. The new samurai helmet is compatible with her chin guard unlike the old samurai helmet which was too wide.
The last time I remember them using the classic Samurai helmet was in the year before in 2011 when they were airing Ninjago's pilot episodes. It was used by Lord Garmadon but his future variations aswell as his legacy figure remake either use the new helmet or the version that was introduced in the Lego Ninjago Movie
Also yes, I am a Ninjago fan (despite never owning any official sets because I'm broke but I like watching the show and being in the fandom)

I don't like trolls, and big minifigs in Lego is a big no no for me personally. What's the point if you can't assemble them, and they are so huge, just no. The troll theme gives it more fantasy vibes, like it should be in LOTR franchise, not the classic medieval castle. I like the dragons though, even if they are also fantasy, somehow they fit better with classical castle. But most importantly of all castles I've seen here nothing beats the new Lion's knights castle. I don't want nothing before that. Maybe medieval market village and town square would fit nicely with it. You need nothing more.
