Enjoyable vlog as usual. Takes me back a bit! As for the lights, I used to wire wheel them back, etch prime them and then used chrome spray on the back. They looked really smart. Find an old headlamp to practice with. 👍

Thanks for the comment, I will definitely give it a go as I want to smarten the light up before they go back on the car.👍

Love watching your videos, great work and explanations, I’m currently doing a series 1 full restoration, what width belt sander do you use and which’s belts as mine don’t seen to last more than a few seconds

I believe they are 12mm blue zirconium belts.

Great video Chris your fabrication skills are brilliant being able to patch up that front end. What dics’s are you using on your parkside mini angle grinder mate? Also could I ask what is your paint code on your chassis plate for Rosso red as on my 87 Xr3i mine is RA5 and I couldn’t find out if it was rosso or radiant red

Thanks for you comment on my fabrication skills, being a joiner by trade I believe it helps me with scribing the metal into shape plus I enjoy metal work. The cutting discs I use in the mini grinder are the genuine dremel disc as I’ve found they last longer. I had to take the advice from the paint shop that mix the paint because the paint code on the chassis plate is R5. He worked it out from the age of the car as Rosso red, it’s an early red and radiant red was a later colour.

@ModernClassics81 I work mobile as a smart repairer, so I have all the equipment if you were to do it yourself. Happy to lend a hand and tools if needed

For the headlights, it ultimately depends what you want.
If you just want them looking nice, heat gun the glass and pull them off so you can reseal them.
Wire wheel the backs and paint as you want them, matte black looks best.
If you want them like original then youll have to have them anodized like the factory would have, probably quite expensive to have that done nowadays.
Another option would be to buy a brand new set of reproduction units (still available) and just replace the front glass to carello glass.

There are company's that offer a 'spray chrome' service, one here in essex.wether its an option on the headlight whether physically possible or cost effective not sure.
Alternatively try to pick up good/new old stock replacement and have reg etched on those -prob cheaper for the latter tbh

Thanks for the comment and the info. I may try sanding down the back of the lights and repainting the backs with a colour matched paint. May get a second hand one to experiment on first.
