As usual we all thank you for bringing these glitches to our attention. These Vlogs and your maintenance videos are invaluable save us thousands in labor costs. Amy owner of a Goldwing who hasn’t purchased your videos, and in my case also Fred Harmon’s videos is missing out. The satisfaction one gets from doing 95 plus percent of required maintenance is a small 0:10 feeling of doing it yourself knowing it is done right. I did add the Traxxion battery bolt extenders to allow a bit more space if adding mandatory direct negative and positive wire connectors. I had to trim the positive one about a quarter inch to allow the cover to seat properly. Love Scosche connection. Reminder to carry the connector for interface to Battery Tender if you have other devices , air pumps etc that use the SEI (?) connector. Although the Traxxion bolts will also alligator connectors. 😎
I had the same issues many times. Lights flashing, battery was dead, trickle charger would not charge the battery. I could jump it and it would start. Then try to start again. Dead. Took it to the dealer many times. Replaced batteries at least five times. Problem would come back. Had Honda tech support involved. They could not find out what was the issue. In the end, Honda had issues with the red starter module. The defect caused electrical issues like dead batteries and weird issues with electrical components. My 2019 issues took 2 years to get to the bottom of. Since that unit was replaced, zero issues. I have heard that some Harley had the same issues. Possibly used the same vendor to build them. Not sure. I never ride without a jumper box. I have been stuck to many times. I hope this helps.
CM shame on Honda for not having a positive down when the ignition is turned off. I did leave the ignition on Accessory mode when completing a ride on my 2012 FLHTK, I wanted to listen to a song when I was removing my gear after finishing a ride. I caught it an hour later when I went in the garage for a beer. Your review of the Scoche convinced me to purchase one in September in preparation for my trip to Street Vibrations in Reno, NV. It was the best move I've ever made; I got the SAE connector also. Yes, I ride a Harley and I've watched your channel for close to 3 years now. Not a fan of the 360 view on the GP, but that won't keep me from watching...Keep up the good work...
I really like this video. I have a 2018 Goldwing and have had the issue where the bike would not shutdown properly. We also had another Goldwinger had this happen during a Rally. I know to recheck it once I do a shutdown. Now to the video! I am currently in Saudi Arabia, left home in August and had to leave my bike at the house. I showed my wife how to operate the battery tender and she did a great job of starting my Goldwing enough that we felt confident that this was keeping the battery to close to full charging level. In February, she went to start it and nothing!! She showed me where the battery tender was showing green, but still nothing. I had her check the cables and the same (I'm not including everything we tried but trust me). I had her take my battery pack and plug it in and my bike started, but once she cut the engine off, it would not restart on its own. So, we decided to replace the battery. Being a smart person as she is, she said she would take care of taking the battery out, having it checked and reinstall it. She looked this video up on youtube and completed the mission. Thanks for all of your videos. I am a subscriber to your video series (both sets, since she has a 2016 GL1800 Trike) and they have been fantastic!!
Cruise man before you install that battery put it on charger and top it off those batteries will only go to 80% charge or less unless they’re topped off from new
It is very important when using a jumpstarter that you disconnect audio fuse A15, which is in the right column, the sixth one from the bottom. The check engine will go after some rides.
Thanks for the video, Cruiseman. I still have the original battery in my 2018. I expect it’s just a matter of time before I have to replace it. Never experienced any issue like you had. Ride safely.
I love that new camera. So many issues caused by a bad battery I will be very aware now to not be moving when I shut her down from now on. As always thank you for the invaluable information.
Chris, I don't know how you can stand to work on your Goldwing without a ratcheting screwdriver. I have been using Snap-on ratcheting screwdrivers for 20 years, (just the brand that I prefer),and I love them. Makes so many task that require a screwdriver so much quicker and you can change the bits in the end to accommodate a plethora of different fastener types.
Yes, Insta360 is an excellent way to record videos. It's a future. There's much more you can do and show, but, I assume there's more work involved with editing.
(Belated Happy Birthday Chris!!!) Thanks for this, I have seen the bike not shutdown when the knob was turned before. It's always happened when I park in my darker garage where I can see the headlights still on. Turning the knob on and then off again finally shuts down the bike properly. I wonder if the bike was creeping or moving slightly which caused this. I've had the MIL (malfunction indicator light) on when the bike's failed to start properly first time - it's happened twice I think. In each case the MIL went out after five or six successful starts. I wish I could use my car's OBD2 tool on the GoldWing though to actually read the codes!!! And thanks for letting us hear that gorgeous bike start up. Up here in cold and frozen Canada, most of our bikes have been in storage for months - we miss that sound !!! Camera and sound seem fine.
Thank you for the info. My GL1500 was fairly easy to turn to the accessory key position when attempting to turn it off. Of course that was with an old fashion key.
Thanks Cruiseman, I learned something new as always after whatching your videos. That is to pull off the passenger foot board cover when removing the battery, makes it so much easier. I also love your new camera, please keep using it.
Still with the OEM battery with my 2018. I keep the bike plugged into the battery tender when the bike is parked....surprised you didn't put the new battery on the charger before installing it in the bike.
I suggest using a battery tender whenever you park the motorcycle at home. My Optimate conditions the battery as well as maintaining the charge. I have been postponing buying a jump starter. When I saw the SAE adapter for yours, I ordered the jump starter and adapter. I like the new video.
Maybe I missed something but have you been changing batteries just because you discharged them? Batteries are salvageable 9 times out of 10 with the proper charger and time on that charger. I have my original battery in my 13 Wing. Most battery tenders don’t put out enough juice to recharge a battery in a week let alone over night and most chargers are so sensitive now they won’t kickstart a weak battery anymore, it’ll just say bad, gotta keep an old school charger around just for that very reason.
like the camera. what software glitch causes the lights to stay on if the bike is "moving" when shut off? is it corrected on 2019-2021? is it exclusive to DCT? does it necessitate using the parking brake all the time?
Just fyi that has worked for me referencing the check engine light. It’s worked for me on my 2018 DCT Tourer. I start the bike from a cold start and let it idle until the fans come on. Shut bike off and restart. The MIL light is off. Just a suggestion.
I've had a few instances on my 2020 where I've turned the switch to shut the bike off and the engine dies but everything else stays on. I always just figured I had turned and released the switch too quickly. Turned the switch again and shut everything off, I've never accidentally left it on. Good video, the new camera is quite interesting. Could prove to be very useful.
I like the new camera you're using. Good video quality & it handles motion well. However, it does distort the picture slightly due to its wide angle views. But, I'm okay with that because I can see so much more in that mode and it's good clear video. I give it a thumbs up and would suggest you continue using it.
A very helpful video, thanks CM. The video (and audio) were both excellent IMO. I notice you're using your Sena Impulse helmet rather than your HJC. Is the Sena now your go-to lid? I'm thinking of buying one but still quite expensive here in the UK.
I have a suspected duff battery, Still original 2018 battery and have been in the States for the last couple of weeks and on my return to the UK the bike lights up OK and plenty of sound from the horn but when I press the start button, nothing. It happened when I was away in May but half an hour on the charger and she fired up OK but not having any of it this time.
Since I got my insta 360, I haven’t turned on either of the ’two’ GoPro’s that I used to run! The more you use/learn… the more you’ll like the insta 360…
Forgot. Video is great. The use of the 360 camera adds perspective an joy of your travels. Next I can’t wait till to add a drone. The combination in addition your voice overs add content, Itchy Boots being the “cat’s Meow”. Tat might be dating myself. Just the facts Jack. 😎
My Goldwing wouldn't shut off, lights were on and could not turn off. I didn't notice this for about 2-3 hours. I am sure the bike was not moving, kickstand was down. The lights stayed on for hours and finally died with the battery charger on. The next day there was enough juice in the battery for the bike to start and turn off as it should. Since this was the original batter that came with the bike I bought 3 years ago I am planning on getting a new battery.
Thanks for this video. After having my 2023 Goldwing for two months now, I ended up with a dead battery. My question is, how long did it take for the “check engine light” to go off after swapping batteries?
I love my 2022 DCT but I must say it certainly has some weird characteristics…. As for the new camera, it’s the first video camera I would consider getting. Seems to be a more realistic view we experience while riding. I will be interested in ur thoughts once you get to use it more. Btw, any comment on the video which indicated a rider who spends time practicing slow speed manoeuvres with a DCT has gone through two transmissions on two different DCT’s? Reportly Honda covered the first replacement under warranty but refused to do so on his second, newer DCT wing. Claimed slow speed manoeuvres were somehow “abuse”.
I had the original battery die after 2 years and then replaced it with a lithium Noco battery from Amazon it's smaller and has lasted 3 years so far and you can leave the bike for longer periods between rides without the battery dieing
Cruiseman, the 360 looks and sounds great and I think you will like it. I use an Insta360 One X2 and it also works nice. You should have much better video quality and more options with the x3.
Hi CG, today (27thJan) I bought my first GL and I'm lost at sea with all the tech, 1st problem ..pressing the keypad gives an inordinate loud tone every time a key is hit, how do I turn this off ? Love your vids and trying cram as much knowledge in as short a time as poss, Regards👍 Tony in Spain
I replaced my battery with a lithium battery Amazon Noco NPL 20 and it's worked perfectly I don't ride everyday so if I let the bike sit for a week or more it starts right up and it was smaller and easy to get in . PS it's a year since I installed it so far it's been really great
It wouldn’t surprise if you still an electrical problem. The symptoms that you described about turning off the key, while slightly moving would be very unlikely to create the flashing lights and problems. Once that key is off, the ECM and other electronics will respond to that, no matter if there is some small motion or movement in the wheels. The flashing lights sounds like a bad ignition switch in my opinion
I would have put the dead battery on a smart reconditioning charger (say one from NoCo or Ctek) before I purchased a new battery. I have managed to save quite a few batteries this way and extend the life of my AGM batteries by many years. I have a friend who got 8 years out of his stock Honda Yusa AGM battery by using a reconditioning charger. I only got two years out of the same battery in the same bike before I got smart and purchased a smart charger.
Same here. I do it on my cars on an annual basis too. That way, my car battery lasts. Mine's the Optimate 6 and I think it has paid itself over and over again.
Will you tell me about the battery jump start device you have with wires that can be used for battery tender also? I have my side cover removed for the winter so I can easily attach my battery tender and can’t find a wire set that I can feed through the cover to attach a battery tender since it is so tight in there
If you'll go to his TH-cam channel/page, then the tab for videos or just do a search on his channel. You'll find it easily enough. I think he posted it about 2 years ago. Neat little device!
goldwing 1800 dct 2018 Battery problem Yuasa GYZ20L part 31500MCA941 12V In the end Yuasa Japan discreetly confirmed that in the manufacturing batches of the GYZ20L batteries for the Golwing 1800 GL some were faulty but that it was impossible to know which ones many owners encountered this battery problem throughout the world including me (Thailand ) Yuasa does not provide any guarantee on this type of battery in any case it must be changed every year,... In the end, the concessionary resellers were careful not to give the information coming from the manufacturers to avoid conflicts with customers......business
When you turn off the bike. Turn switch all the way. Then engine and bike are off. If just a quick flip/turn the lights may stay on. Honda did not design the ISG to work with a lithium battery. Per Honda! To charge the battery it needs to be on a Automatic type AGM Battery charger at 2-10 amps for 10 hours. I suggest you charge your new battery to full charge. Per Honda service manual 13.2 votes is full charge. This means battery amps are at full charge. I get it buying a new battery is good insurance buy if you had charged the dead one at 2-10 amps for 10 hours I bet it’s going to pass a load test. Try it. The GYZ20L battery is rated at 250 amps but will load test at near 300 amps if full charge. Three types of battery in general Standard, AGM, Lithium. AGM is a Powersports battery and this type is used around the world.
You replaced your battery with the same type. Why didn't you replaced is by a more common YTX20L version. A lot cheaper, same cranking amps. Only difference the GYZ is suitable for start/stop and the YTX not. I had also issues with the GYZ version. After searching the internet i came across a story about the storage difference between the GYZ and YTX version before you buy the battery. This storage difference seems to be a big reason the problems with the GYZ version.
If the battery was only 12 months old why didn't you make a warranty claim? Surely it will have had a 2-3 year warranty. I toasted a Goldwing battery a few years ago due to using the wrong type of tender. I kalway put my two Goldwings on tender when garaged. The GL1800 drains down more quickly than the GL1100 as it only has the analogue clock to run. Modern bikes and cars have various security systems which are always drawing power and will drain a battery over time. I'll put my car on tender if I'm away for a few weeks.
Regarding the battery jump starter and battery tender. Do the cables that you have connected to your battery come with the kit that you show from Amazon or they something extra that I’d need to order? I am running a regular battery tender on all of my bikes now and didn’t know that I could combine then like you did.
hey cruise man, you know yuasa batteries are the best on the planet and I noticed that you have put a GYZ20L. there's a more powerful version. the GYZ20HL. the H is Heavy Duty. more CCA. love your channel!
I use an Antigravity Battery for my ST1300 and was just about to buy one for my 2018 GW Tour DCT until I saw someone post something on Facebook. He said the Honda mechanic advised against it as the bike's (forgot part) was not made for it. Anyone hear anything about using Antigravity Batteries for GW? I'd call Antigravity but I'm sure they'd say it's fine
I switched every (led acid) bike I've owned to the Antigravity Lithium. Never had an issue. Just bought a 22 BMW 1250 RT and have already ordered one for it. Lighter is Always better on a bike.
This summer I accidently left my switch on for 2-3 hours. I was in a very remote town in Alaska. It was dead with like you were seeing, very dim lights. I was able for get it jump started by a good Smartian. I ran it for 1/2 hour to put in a charge. It started the next day, and it has been fine ever since. Fingers crossed. I know you are not supposed to charge a battery from dead with the bike. I know I should have put it on a real charger. I was 100 miles from any sort of motorcycle shop or charger.
Love the new camera. It is intresting that there is very little distortion on the edges. You mentioned Li-Ion battery. I beleave they are Li-Fe ( Iron) batterys. Every thing I've read has been positive about them.
Another great video and the new camera looks nice. Plus for me it cleans up your helmet, one less thing to get knocked around and broken. About time for coffee and comments, or Crown and comments for 2023.
I've not had any issues with the battery on my 2018 Wing Tour 6MT. And it always turns off if I'm still rolling. And because I've got the better 6MT I've never had a snow storm on my dash like the DCT likes to have. I will replace the battery this summer regardless of condition at 5 years old. Last month I bought a new 2022 Yamaha base model MT-09 as a solo fun bike. The Wing is the most boring motorcycle I've ever owned so I need some spice for life. Problem with the MT-09 is I have forgot to turn the key off like when running into a quicky-mart real quick. Hit the kill switch, hop off and come back with the key still on. The Wing and my current car have kind of spoiled me with a fob and knob/button. And seeing my 2018 simple Ford car is much more advance than my over priced out of date Wing. The car will power down if the ignition is left on or in accessory in 15 mins I think it is after no activity. So I'm going to have to get use to having old school key on the Hammer. Or it's tiny battery will be toast in no time. Or get stolen. :)
It would be great if you could prove/disprove your hypothesis using a more scientific method by replicating the conditions ie shutting off while bike is still rolling.
As usual we all thank you for bringing these glitches to our attention. These Vlogs and your maintenance videos are invaluable save us thousands in labor costs. I really like the new camera! Feels like I’m on the bike!
I like the new look of the 360 camera.
Every bike seems to have a weak link. The stock seat is one, the battery is another.
It is very important when using a jumpstarter that you disconnect audio fuse A15, which is in the right column, the sixth one from the bottom. The check engine will go after some rides.
Thanks for the advice about the check engine light going out after some rides. I have rehooked mine and the light has come on.
Chris, when your Goldwing is in accessory mode, it will automatically turn off after 15-20 minutes of undetected activity.
I had the EXACT same thing happen. After about 6 months (I'm not exaggerating) Honda replaced the starter charger system. Runs fine now.
You made that battery change look so easy, the video footage is very good, 4K would be much better.

Happy birthday! Yesterday?
Celebrate every one of them!
Had the same issue with my second bike, a 2021 Triumph Rocket. New battery needed. 🙄
The Insta360 seems to be a fine solution. The video is clear.
New camera is great! Thanks for sharing.
Video is good. Love the concept, looking forward to seeing the different shots, angles and zooms. This camera is on my wish list.

Any reason you didn’t go with an HD Yuasa battery? It has more cranking amps.
Had my Goldwing for almost 3 1/2 years now. Getting ready to put the 4th new battery in it🤦. I ride year round and keep a battery tender on it.
Like the new camera very much. And happy birthday.
Maybe I missed something but have you been changing batteries just because you discharged them? Batteries are salvageable 9 times out of 10 with the proper charger and time on that charger. When I don’t need the GoPro mount, I do prefer the Sena.
Good video---new camera looks really clear
Hi Cruiseman. In your video, I can see than you close your garage door with the left lowest buttom on the GoldWing. Wen do you have finded this kit?
Go to CycleMax.com and search for HomeLink.
I have a suspected duff battery, Still original 2018 battery and have been in the States for the last couple of weeks and on my return to the UK the bike lights up OK and plenty of sound from the horn but when I press the start button, nothing. Happy Birthday Chris !! Camera looks good. Also availeble in Europe ?
Pretty sure they are available in Europe.

The DCT issue is something I plan to talk about in my next Crown and Comments. Stay tuned.
Deano swears by Interstate!
Cool video. Might try this on my bike and interested to see what its like on the dirt bike too.
I had the original battery die after 2 years and then replaced it with a lithium Noco battery from Amazon it's smaller and has lasted 3 years so far and you can leave the bike for longer periods between rides without the battery dieing

I replaced my battery with a lithium battery Amazon Noco NPL 20 and it's worked perfectly I don't ride everyday so if I let the bike sit for a week or more it starts right up and it was smaller and easy to get in . PS it's a year since I installed it so far it's been really great
I appreciate the video and your professional
I like the Insta 360. Keep using it. I want one too, Lol.
Hi there. What are the specs for thay YUASA battery? 12V20Ah, or 12V18Ah. Thanks, mate.
Good quality vid 👌
The 360s good👌
Love the video quality!
Do you lose the memory when you disconnect the battery and have to save all the settings again
Interesting
Wonderful wonderful 👍
I would have put the dead battery on a smart reconditioning charger (say one from NoCo or Ctek) before I purchased a new battery. I have managed to save quite a few batteries this way and extend the life of my AGM batteries by many years. I have a friend who got 8 years out of his stock Honda Yusa AGM battery by using a reconditioning charger. I only got two years out of the same battery in the same bike before I got smart and purchased a smart charger.
He also put his "drained" battery on a tender to charge it when he needed a charger.
Same here. I do it on my cars on an annual basis too. That way, my car battery lasts. Mine's the Optimate 6 and I think it has paid itself over and over again.
You can’t use a battery tender to charge your battery, hard on the tender and won’t work! They are only for battery maintenance !
I've been talking my self out of the 360 for months... I don't need to spend the money.
goldwing 1800 dct 2018 Battery problem Yuasa GYZ20L part 31500MCA941 12V
In the end Yuasa Japan discreetly confirmed that in the manufacturing batches of the GYZ20L batteries for the Golwing 1800 GL some were faulty but that it was impossible to know which ones many owners encountered this battery problem throughout the world including me (Thailand ) Yuasa does not provide any guarantee on this type of battery in any case it must be changed every year,...
That's weird because I've drain batteries before they charge them back up and not had a problem
Modern bikes and cars
have various security systems which are always drawing power and will drain a battery over time.
@@tracyratzlaff7421 they no longer offer those cables
Why didnt you do a Lithium-Ion?
hey cruise man, you know yuasa batteries are the best on the planet and I noticed that you have put a GYZ20L. there's a more powerful version. the GYZ20HL. the H is Heavy Duty. more CCA. love your channel!
Quality looks good to me.
I wonder if you could have purchased a lithium ion as the replacement.
Cool camera too!
Do you have a code reader for the bike?
I have tryed it but the bike (2019 tour dct) didnt like it, the start stop system didnt work at all it never shut off at the traffic lights.

Honda didn’t use a Lithium Ion battery for the same reason you didn’t. 😊
Possibly.
Great video
This summer I accidently left my switch on for 2-3 hours. I was in a very remote town in Alaska. It was dead with like you were seeing, very dim lights. I was able for get it jump started by a good Smartian. I ran it for 1/2 hour to put in a charge. It started the next day, and it has been fine ever since. Fingers crossed. I know you are not supposed to charge a battery from dead with the bike. I know I should have put it on a real charger. I was 100 miles from any sort of motorcycle shop or charger.
Hi great channel very nice motorcycle ;)
Love the new camera. It is intresting that there is very little distortion on the edges. You mentioned Li-Ion battery. I beleave they are Li-Fe ( Iron)
batterys. Every thing I've read has been positive about them.
Well we have all had brain fade at one time or another.🥴
Another great video and the new camera looks nice.

com to the point plies
It would be great if you could prove/disprove your hypothesis using a more scientific method by replicating the conditions ie shutting off while bike is still rolling.
GoPro sucks
Long live the king instant 360
