The tune in the background was used for the 1956 Chrysler “Flight Sweep” jingle which Bill Lundigan introduced. “The forward look presents the flight sweep, all new style alive with jet plane power, you’re out in front when you’re with flight sweep, borrowed from tomorrow”.
Shows what an exciting new medium television was even in 1956, eight years after the big breakthrough in 1948. I may have only been three years old, but swear I remember that music they are using. In order to see color TV in the late 50's, early 60's we had to go to an appliance store downtown and lurk around to watch color shows on the sales models. There wasn't a lot of color programming yet, had to know what was going to be telecast in advance. Most everyone only had B&W TV sets.
Bill Golden got told in no uncertain terms that the worst thing he could possibly do with his design was exactly what he had done. He got overruled without a second thought, and the eye never looked back.
This was probably shot and animated on color film. And if this animation was done after the fall of 1955, it was probably done at Terrytoons studios, since CBS had bought Terrytoons in the fall of 1955.
Good surmising, because whatever studio/agency did the CBS iris/shutter animation probably did the color one, as the CBS logo layout/placement is near identical (if it's a cel)... Fun stuff, eh?
The CBS color animated ID is from a very faded (reddish) film print, so the colors are NOT accurate and have been adjusted/corrrected for 'white' as best possible. More work could be done...but better to locate a superior source, though probably more of an archaeological dig...
@@jasonbeard4713 Thank you so much. That means a lot considering I don't (can't) monetize... As I find 'em, I'll make 'em. Appreciate the kind words and the fact that you notice! Cheers!
Do you have the “winking eye” CBS logo. I saw it once in the mid 1960’s, it was just one slow wink that seemed quite ominous and menacing. It was like the logo was saying “we are watching you!”

Impressive. Most impressive.
This is the CBS Television Network.
They sure were big on kaleidoscope effects around that time
ABC had a kaleidoscope color announcement on some of their shows in the '60's.
To me, the CBS color logo looked like the eye was surrounded by a 360-degree beard. I really don't like it.
LSD was still LEGAL in 1956, Keep that in mind. 😜
