- This 1983 Volkswagen Rabbit GTI spent 13 years in a collapsing garage. I was tasked with saving it and in this video, we get to drive it for the very first time since 2010. Now that it's drivable, body-work and interior re-assembly is all that's left! Well, that and maybe a new set of tires.

nice job with the bunny resurrection!!👍🏻
I had a silver 84 Jetta GLI and as much as I could, I would open the sunroof. I wish I knew then that it was such a rare car. I’ve occasionally looked around for one.
Living the dream
I ran a Techtonics exhaust on my '84 Rabbit back in '87. It was the 4 speed with a Carter/Weber 1 bbl. carb. I swapped in a Euro GTi 1.6 with the "Heron" type cylinder head and a pair of side draft Dell'Orto carbs. Used to chase GTi's with it. It was a top end motor, power didn't come on until about 4k revs. Don't see MKI's much in New Jersey...
You need to get your hands on a Bombardier/VW iltis to add to the collection!
Fantastic
I'd guess by now you're aware that the Watch JR Go channel has a barn find MINT condition GTi identical to yours that they're rehabilitating. Cool!
Another one saved! Nice work! I was a little nervous with the car running in a closed garage, though. That said, the smile on your face when driving it was priceless.
Mans always has the coffee in hand! Thanks for the entertainment as always! Currently working my alh swap into my mk1 as we speak
Original exhaust? Sounds fantastic.
I'm working on an all original Scirocco 16v and the CIS is kicking me. I'm a carb guy.
cool! my dad has a corrado that sits in a garage since 2010, his g60 charger exploded and hes never touched it since
I want one so bad 😢😫😫 they are so MFFING cool
Your excitement is priceless 🤙
awsome job getting the Gti back up and going !!
Great to see progress on the GTI!
Fuel pressure is the main thing people get wrong with cis. Gotta have that 100psi pump!! When it runs good it runs awesome. Makes me miss my 2.0 16v Caddy.
What an awesome journey from rubbish to running fam! Excellent job!
Love your videos dude… really exciting moment to see it running!
1983, the National speed limit was 55, so it was geared for that. Not sure how you'd fix it.
yep the timing is 3 degrees ATDC
Videos are getting very very good my big homie!
Are you willing to sell the red Caddy over there?? 😅
greaat video!
🔥🔥🔥🔥
❤❤❤❤❤
I have a pickup with original 1.8 cis engine and automatic. I really should get it on the road again, it's been 6 years...
My second car, ever was a 1981 vw Rabbit . I loved it too much and , not being handy, spent way too much on repairs. I still miss that car! Side note James, lifting a car with a picker does not seem safe. I think you can get a lift for under 5k and possibly get a used one for a lot less.
The math works, there is almost no weight on the hoist. Triangulation and such...
I take its a 5speed
Thanks again for the great video.
Somebody know any diesel mechanic around San Diego / Tijuana?
