Why is the valve under my toilet leaking and how do I stop it from dripping?

some toilet stop valves have a male nipple that threads into a female 1/2 inch drop ear 90 which is mounted on a block of wood like a 2x4 or 2x6 in the stud cavity...
Some are installed on copper using a compression fitting.
in this case, a CPVC adapter was used which makes replacing just the valve head a relatively simple matter.
