  • Description: Billions of these were printed. They are old, but rarely valuable.
Seal Type: These notes can have a blue, yellow, or brown seal.
Varieties: This is a complex issue. There are brown seal Hawaii notes, yellow seal North Africa notes, red R and red S experimentals. Plus you have all of the standard 1935, 1935A, 1935B, 1935C, 1935D, 1935E, 1935F, 1935G, and 1935H issues.
    Portrait: George Washington
Value: Your garden variety 1935 (with any series letter) $1 silver certificate is worth about $1.50. Hawaii notes are worth about $25, as are yellow seal North Africa notes. We can’t help you over the phone with these. However, please send some pictures and we can help with pricing. Just remember that very few are worth much money at all.

At 7:16 there are ALSO BLUE seal silver certificates with the seal on the left side of the bill, just like the RED seal one he is showing.

I’m guessing that the placement of the star either the beginning of the number or the end might also hold it’s value? I have 2 one dollar silver certificates that are starting with a star and ending with a letter. So opposite of your example with the five dollar bill. As well as being a silver certificate. One marked series 1935F and the other series 1957A

I just decided to see what my $1 1935 silver certificate might be worth now. One guy was giving alot of info about the seals and stars on the notes. I believe he was legitimate on the value of all the currency he was showing. I feel these other videos are not being truthful about any special markings on the currency

I would like to point out that I did not hear you mention that the RED SEAL appears on a UNITED STATES NOTE which is different than a Federal Reserve note's GREEN SEAL and a Silver Certificate's BLUE SEAL. The "UNITED STATES NOTES" are the constitutional currency created by the "Legal Tender Act" of February 25, 1862. UNITED STATES NOTES are exempt from taxation and credits for these notes may be claimed for income tax purposes. Only three hundred million UNITED STATES NOTES are allowed to be in circulation at a time which means that they are not an elastic currency such as the Federal Reserve notes. Also, the STAR NOTES represent COIN NOTES and/or BANK NOTES. The star notes are for errors or defective notes. Thank you for making this video as it is very educational especially for those that haven't got a clue about the difference in the various currencies and/or their values.

1953 $5 Silver certificate included series 1953. 1953 A, 1953B & 1953C. The C series was never officially released for circulation. Known collectively as the 1953 Blue Seal series there were no mules issued in this series. Also there was no series D although star notes are common among the series. The 10 Edition of US Small Size paper Money lists the 1953B star note as the big trophy of the series. If you have one of these bills in crisp un-circulated condition (Gem CU) is worth $20000.00! And that's 2011 prices! Good luck!
