    I have 2 in series star bills both uncirculated.
    A friend came over with $1800 in 100's and we started looking, wasn't till the last 2 and then bam, I see a star, wait look another star, no wait look there in series! Aaand super crispy new. Anyway I bought them for 235 total. (Update, I sold those together for about 260. But after adding insurance and time out of my day to go mail it, not super worth it.) I was happy to be able to provide the service, lol!!
    *I prefer $1.00 or $2.00 bills as I usually don't do insurance in them. *Plus hgher profit margins.
    Funner too, occasionally I get a thousand $1's and come home and relax and inspect each one.

      I would be careful with $100s otherwise this could become an expensive hobby, but maybe you are filthy rich. I would always pay attention to the condition, if it is from a low print run, and if it is a fancy serial number . If you are happy then that is what counts. I also have $200 non-low print run 100s. Good luck. I hope you subscribe for the journey.

      @@ExpatriateAmerikaner i updated my post with basically that, that $100's are risky and then if you sell on ebay then paying to add insurance ruins your profit margin.

    I've never come across a star note before. Usually replacement notes are issued with a special prefix (usually ZZ) on most currencies. I never realised that US currency was different in that regard. Great video! Subbed! I also collect paper notes and have featured a few on my TH-cam channel. Always great to meet a fellow collector! :)

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the US the star at the end of a note designates a replacement note. Yeah, I just learned this like 2 years back when I first started at the bank. I thought since I see a lot of cash maybe there is something to collect here that is valuable and I watched a video from Hidden Treasure Hunter (he is no longer with us on TH-cam because he passed away unfortunately from cancer). Only exchanged messages with the guy but he is the guy who got me into it. Nice to meet you too. I will have to check your channel out.

      I definitely agree it's a great idea to keep an eye on the notes that pass through your hands. It's something I do religiously now given that there are many hidden gems out there that would past most people by. You're videos validate that theory. Sorry to hear of the passing of the Hidden Treasure Hunter, I'll try to look him up. Thanks for the great reply and I look forward to your next video!

    cool thanks for responding... now this i have a ten bill from 1977 from Chicago starting with double 00 and its a shifted print on the back it has more white at the bottom less at the top... u think i might havw something. .its in near uncirculated condition.. clean ..no rips stains or nothing

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uncirculated would make it worth over face. Probably not a ton but a little bit. IN Europe you would even get more for older bills since their are less notes and many Ebayers won't ship to collectors in Europe. Afraid of getting burned, but I can tell you from my experience German Ebayers are more honest than American ones. A leading double 00 is really nothing. It has to have at least 5 0's to be considered low. If the next note that was printed can be seen on your bill then you have something special otherwise it is just a miscut and this was more common back then when the technology wasn't as good as it is today. Many notes that would now be sorted out were let through and the standards were a little more loose.

    the note lookup site says that it was printed in may 2015. which is amazing that it took 6 years for the original note sitting in a vault before it was discovered to be in err and needing this replacement made.

    These bills are special because they're perfect yet you keep bending them around.

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Since they are in plastic no hard creases or bends are being formed. At least I don't see any difference when I inspect the notes. Maybe at the microscopic or sub-atomic level there is some difference. You are right though. I do have a bad habit of moving my hands around and bending the plastic surrouding the note. The bend is so light however that no hard fold is happening. But don't get me wrong you are right. It would be better to just hold them on the edges. It is is equivalent to putting a note without a holder on your finger and letting it rest. Both sides are going to fold over, but if you put the note back down on a flat service no noticeable damage, waves, or folds will be evident. I promise I will be paying more attention in the future. I had someone else also comment.

    The 2nd note you showed lb16102780* isn't worth much, maybe 110.00 to buy, but keep all star notes, because a stack of random star notes, can still bring in a few dollars. Your particular bill has a so-so rating, as it tells you, i believe the 1st one you showed is worth more, depending on the date, which you cannot read, and a lower serial #, and i didn't hear you say the year, so I'd double check the 1st one, nice find though.

      It is always fun to find a star. Your note is from a full run of 3.200.000 notes. Unfortunately this works detrimental to the value. In crisp uncirculated condition you might get a little over face but probably after fees you would break even. Just being honest. If you hold onto it for a long time it might go up in value but many were printed for this series because the BEP (Bureau of Engraving and Printing) had so many problems with the new $100 and the blue security strip. You will probably lose money over time due to inflation. I would keep it if it doesn't do you to much financial harm until you find a note with a star that has a better serial number or is from a lower run. Most important I like your tenacity.

      You do have a star note from a moderately low print run (640.000). You can look up star notes on „my currency collection star note look up“. In perfect condition I would assume it would bring around $125 and after EBay fees you might make a few bucks profit. I would keep it because there are no other ML runs, it is always worth $100, and it’s value will probably increase over time.

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many factors play in. Condition is very important. The older the note the rarer, but print runs are also important. There are currency books telling you what notes to look out for. Stars are considered more collectible because of the rarity. I see a star usually 1 in every 100 or 200 notes. The star notes replaced damaged notes. And of course rare serial numbers like 29292929 or 77777777 or 86666668 can also increase the value. A good resource is cool serial numbers from Dave Undis. He explains what to look for and has even been featured in some news articles.

      Hello Hoa. Both bills are from a full run of 3,200,000 million, and unfortunately neither of the two have a fancy serial number. If you sold them on ebay (in perfect condition) you would probably break even. This means you should keep looking through your money and eventually you will find one of the rarer star notes or a fancy serial number. Good luck. How many sequential bills do I need to have in order to sell? I try & get hundreds when I can just for this. Don't have many, but if even worth a little more than face value, I will sell the few that I have! I actually hate hundreds as they are too easy to lose -say if you go food shopping.If any are worth anything I'd be beyond happy!

      Sequential is not so important unless they are '' fancy serial numbers '', or are from a rare low print star run. Look up those two definitions and that will help you be able to decipher which bills are worth keeping.

I buy my holders for United States notes (look at the photo in the ebay link it says ''Current size US Currency)... www.ebay.com/itm/100-SuperSafe-MODERN-Archival-Mylar-Museum-Grade-Currency-Sleeves-Holder-MG440/261741262959?epid=510428350&hash=item3cf0feb86f:g:BDQAAOSwwPhWjoTN You can look for other sizes he sells and buy larger ones so they fit all your notes. Most important is that it is musuem quality and made with mylar otherwise it can damage your notes.

      I don't know of too many 64,000 runs. I have seen 640,000 runs. Yes, if theoretically the same amount of notes were printed the stars would be worth more unless for some reason the regular note had a fancy serial number. Many factors play in to the calculation.

    Are all Star note bills worth more?

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not necessarily. It all depends on how large the printing run was (star note lookup is available online), and the condition, and the serial number. If you have a star on a perfect note with a fancy serial number, then you can say cha-ching. I hope this answered your question.

  • @ps2hacker
    @ps2hacker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that star notes indicate that the bill is a replacement for one that was misprinted or damaged somehow in the printing process. They are pretty rare. Especially if there are sequential serials. It means they botched a whole run at the mint.

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Star notes are not that common. I search sometimes $10-20,000 Dollars in 100s and sometimes I don't even find a single note. To have a star note from such a low run is unheard of, especially in this condition.

    • @ps2hacker
      @ps2hacker 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does make sense, though, a low run of a brand new bill: They botched a whole batch. Sounds easy enough to do with new bills with new features added. Fortunately for the mint, it's only paper, so they just print more. I just watched a couple of other vids that suggest these aren't that hard to come by, someone had a whole handful they got from the bank.

      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There were 3.200.000 Million printed from this run so this is NOT a low print run unfortunately. The serial number is also not considered fancy. There are more $100's without star than there are with, but I don't think this note would have any premium after considering fees with ebay/paypal, and I don't think you would break more than even with a coin dealer. Here is the website I use: www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/star-notes/tables You look it up by denomination and year. All runs from 640,000 and less are considered from low print runs and usually carry a small premium depending on how rare, condition, and the serial number. I hope this helps. Also look for fancy serial numbers like radars 34988943 would be a radar or a repeater 12891289 would be a repeater but obviously a radar that is 12344321 would be highly desirable because it is also a ladder. I made a video about What is a fancy serial number: th-cam.com/video/QVpAalFDLs4/w-d-xo.html Good luck!

      Sooooo CLOSE!!!! You were 36 bills away from having a perfect ladder!!! If the bills were sequential (and maybe at an ATM) I would have kept withdrawing them until I got that note. If you randomly found it in change then you were close, but no cigar. Unfortunately this bill is not a keeper because close does not count. Only worth a $100.00, sorry.

      Star notes come from different series (year) and there are different print runs (how many sheets were printed to replace damaged or misprinted notes). The note in the video is from 2009 A series and is from the LB-6 (or sixth run). The BEP (Bureau of Engraving and Printing) only printed LB notes from the sixth run from LB16000001-LB16128000 making this note rare. The replacement notes are printed in blocks or runs of notes. There is a website. Here is the link: Every star note is listed going back to 1976. www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/star-notes/tables

    • @ExpatriateAmerikaner
      @ExpatriateAmerikaner  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Please check the serial numbers with the LL. I am assuming the serial numbers ar LL 06097064* and LL 06097065*, and that they are from series 2009A which is a distinction. The 0's are important to identify the notes. Both are from a full print run of 3.2 Million and do not hold any premium. All JL* notes were from large full print runs of 3.2 Million making them common and NOT sought after. The JL notes are worth maximum $110-$115, you would lose money I am assuming after fees if you sold them on Ebay. Only if they were a fancy serial number would the JL's from 2009 be worth keeping.
