Red Seal Two Dollar Bills- 1953 Series A

There are four keys to the one dollar denomination star note. In no particular order:
1928 $1 red seal legal tender star note
1928C $1 blue seal silver certificate star note
1928D $1 blue seal silver certificate star note
1928E $1 blue seal silver certificate star note
Out of those four notes, the $1 legal tender is available mostly in high grades. All things equal, the 1928E $1 star should be the most valuable.
The next tier of rarity consists of the two experimental issues. Any star note on a 1935A $1 silver certificate with a big red R or S is fairly rare. Only 24,000 were printed.
The 1935A Hawaii and North Africa one dollar star notes are not rare, but they are popular. Circulated Hawaii and North Africa star notes are readily available, but truly uncirculated examples are much more difficult to locate.
1928, 1928A, 1928B, and 1934 $1 silver certificates are very common in circulated condition, but uncommon in perfect condition.
All 1935 one dollar silver certificate star notes are common (with exception of the above mentioned 1935A stars). 1935, 1935A, 1935B, 1935C, 1935D, 1935E, 1935F, 1935G, and 1935H are common. Circulated stars sell for about $3, uncirculated star sell for closer to $15.
1957, 1957A, and 1957B $1 silver certificate star notes are common and only worth about $2.50 in circulated condition. Uncirculated stars are worth about $10.
There are plenty of $1 star notes from 1963 and newer. These are really only collectible if they have a very low serial number that starts with five or more zeros.
Red seals are some of my all time favorites. That little bit of red makes a world of difference. Thanks for sharing

I have a 2 dollar red seal 1953 with no number after the word series. I also have a one dollar bill with a printing error serial number and seal printed on the back. thanks for your post.
I have a two dollar bill just like yours with the red seal only the serial number on the top right hand is off place the A starts at the T in Two and ends at the decrotive boarder and is ever so slightly off as in not quite in a straight line ,also i noticed your red seal os over the TW in TWO while mine is over the WO in TWO ..does this make it and error two dollar bill?

For those older bills in that era the star would be on the left side of the serial number not the right

Thanks. So informative. I have 5 of these 1953 $2 red seal bills. One Series A, two Bs and two Cs. I had other questions about the bills which you didn't cover. Would you be able to answer them? :) What are the letters on the 'front side' - one letter on each bill in the upper left of the unprinted area, which is repeated with a number in the lower right. (e.g., M, H, O, E, I in upper left, and M16, H1, O12, E1, I2 in lower right). And, on the Monticello side: right side center is a tiny three-digit number, e.g., 394, 397, 408, two 403s). Three of the bills have repeating digits in the serial numbers: does this enhance value? Thanks you very much! - Dulcie

I have a red seal 1953 2 dollar bill with Jeffersons house on back but where it says series 1953 on the front it doesn't have a letter with it like the other set seal ones have and it an A 27912864 A so u would think it would have an A where it says series 1953 and the one I have literally looks brand new with no rips bends/folds or marks on it so it's in like new condition . On yours the red seal is not directly in the middle of the word TWO, it more to the left. The one I have it directly in the middle of the word. --- Curious how much it is worth. Does anyone know an approximate amount it'd be worth?

What if there is No series letter on a red certificate??
It means that it was the first edition of that series. The letter is added only if a change to the bill is made that is not significant, like a signature changing.
