  • A gentleman down the road messaged me about giving me some wood. Seemed he has stopped turning to peruse other hobbies and didn’t want to see the wood he had collected go to waste. We arranged a time to meet and long story short, I came home with a trunk full of wood. This is a piece I trimmed off a larger piece.
    Finished with Ack’s Wood Pastes. If you’d like to try it, or need to replenish your supply, be sure to use code “Doug15” at checkout to save yourself 15%.
    If you would click the “Like” button you would be doing me a great favor. If your not already subscribed I would be so honored if you would click the subscribe button as well.
    I’ll be having a Giveaway when the channel reaches 1K subs. If you would share this video and the channel on your social media pages, more folks will be exposed. If they will sub as well, we’ll reach 1K that much sooner. Then we can Giveaway a couple of nice gifts.
    Thank you for watching and helping the channel grow.
    Until we meet again, I hope you’re able to Spin ‘em Round.

      Thank you Gary. I’ll be turning the larger chunk next week Live. BTW, I’m becoming more convinced it’s cherry.

      Thanks Heather. The more I look at it the more I’m sure it’s cherry. Whether it is or isn’t, it’s pretty wood. Thanks for watching.

      Thank you Louie. With a piece of cherry I like to use a simple design so that the wood can be the star of the show. Thanks for watching.

    Turned out very nice. I going to have to get negative rake carbide scrapers. Looks like they are a very useful tool.

      Thank you Walt. All of my cutters are the regular flat cutters. I’ll be getting some of the negatives soon. They work great on resins and really hard woods. I’ll have news on that subject soon.

      @@DougMilleratWoodSpunRound have you had any luck sharpening your carbide scrapers?

    • @DougMilleratWoodSpunRound
      @DougMilleratWoodSpunRound  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@waltwhybrewwoodworking I’ve not even tried. That question was asked of EWT. They stated that even though they produce the cutters, including the original grinding, that they haven’t even thought about refreshing a dull cutter. You simply cannot get it back to the original sharpness. The statement was “the best you can do is make the cutter less dull.” That being said, they also said that the carbide is recyclable and that they were going to go back and look at the numbers to see if recycle for credit arrangement might be something they do in the future.

    Nice work Doug. I love seeing these small vases being made. I need to do more solid wood projects lol.

    The first bowl I ever turned had some inclusions and a little birds eye and I filled it with coffee and CA. I did not have a chuck yet and did it between centers. It is a little off from being the same height on both sides but it still has its place on my shelf )

    Beautiful vase, Doug. I have no idea what the wood is, but you turned it round. Nice job.😊
