Please, you don't have to rationalize why you plant so much. Your channel has been extremely helpful to us old gardeners as well as folks new to gardening. You and Aaron have brought so much to your community through your generosity and by example. I look forward to your postings each morning. In such chaotic times, it is a joy to start my day seeing your beautiful gardens. I know they have been an inspiration to me! Thank you.

Loved this tour and especially the drone footage and the choice of music that accompanied it. Just perfect! Aaron, I hope you are still considering putting up composting bins. You could be making so much compost with all those garden scraps, vines, grass clippings, and leaves. Save all your newspapers and cardboard for the brown matter to mix in. It would be so great to see how it all turns around 360 degrees and a great way to teach others about composting. Thanks for all the time and effort you put into making these videos for us.

      I’m zone 8b
I have a beautiful dahlia collection. The first time I started 16 years ago they didn’t do well because I planted in a location that got a little to much shade…but I didn’t know that, so I planted more the following year and I realized they did better in sunnier locations. The second year when they took off - I only staked a few, which I wished I would have staked all of them as the ones I didn’t fell over when it rained. What a mess. So important to stake them early on.
If you haven’t planted yet I hope you try. The clumps in the spring get bigger each year and you can divide in the fall and place in containers also if you’re not quite sure where you want them.

I really like the idea of a perrienal cut garden. There are so many different varieties you could plant. The main cutting garden gets moved around each year, and will be harder to work around perrienals. You talked about changing the aisle sizes, which can be easily done with the annuals, but with perrienals, you would need to be mindful of where they are planted. My vote is for a perrienal cut garden!

Have you considered putting in a pergula in front of the shed? You could grow some grapes on it and train them up to form some natural shade. It would help keep the building cool in the summer and add a ton of winter interest! It would add some opportunity for a less formal seating area and you could totally hang lights or add a potted Japanese maple to tie it more into the rest of your garden spaces!

I just really want to say thank you. I discovered your channel around mid summer and always click on your videos to watch and learn from you. I really enjoy watching you grow a beautiful space without all the fluff a lot of youtubers include in their videos. While I love watching peoples garden spaces, I grow annoyed with dilly-dally many put on in front of a camera. I don't find that in your videos. I do in fact find honest, hardworking, and majorly humbling people. And I find it so becoming, when I see you sharing the love with friends and family with flowers and produce you grow. Thank you so much for showing a slice of your life with these videos, as it is a wonderful breath of fresh air to sit down and wind down, or get ready for the day.

Hi Laura, I just adore your posts, you and Aaron are such a gorgeous couple. Congratulations on achieving your dreams. You are correct that a lot of your viewers also enjoy the same gardening ethics as yourself, so no need to explain yourself, constantly to people who either lack the same joy of gardening or they just like to knock other people’s success. You both are so young and have archived so much, your children are so lucky to be growing up on such a beautiful property, with such beautiful, kind, generous and community minded parents. I am in Australia, I love waking up each morning and tuning in to see what you have posted during the night, you work so hard, I hope that you take some time to rest, look after yourself. When I see you digging, pulling old plants from pots , bending and lifting, I worry for you. Our bodies are so resilient when we’re young, but as we age there is so much risk of injury. I speak from experience, I see myself in you, but for the last 7 years I have been suffering from chronic back pain from a gardening injury. The size of your property will expect a huge commitment from both of you, I hope that you plan for the a future where you will be able to get help in to maintain the property.. Good luck with it all, I love the Hartley, I can hardly wait to see the Christmas tree in it, what a joy that will be for you to decorate. God Bless, and thank you for sharing your beautiful life with us. Ivanka
