Amen to that. She has shared her life with us and we are so blessed. I ordered so many Proven Winner plants last year and my husband bought two gorilla carts. He said “what are you doing, trying to grow Longwood Gardens?” Still have plants I wintered over that I did not get in the ground last year. Lol! Still have drip tubing to put down along with 6’ x 20’ of mulch. I am 63 and I am wishing I had some help. Laura really inspired me. 😂😎🌿🌼🌹🍉🫐🥒🥔. Love our Garden Answer Family!!

Hi Laura! I live in Athens, Greece and I have 3 olive trees planted in 10 litre terracotta pots. They live in these pots for twelve years now in a sunny location. They get full morning sun until 2pm. In spring a molch with fresh compost and after every hot summer I help them with a little liquid iron. That's because only in the hot days of summer I have to be consistent with watering otherwise leaves might get scorched. In order to collect olives in winter, I must catch up any possible iron deficiency the extra water may have caused. Otherwise the fruits will drop! Every second year they bare fruits, usually in november I gather the olives and then I prune them down very generously in lollipops or cones! Every tired branch must go. 2 years ago I pot them out to check their roots. I was so sure they were rootbound but guess what? They were ok! So I stuffed a little fresh soil and everything was ok. and 7 years a go I underplant them with succulents! And they all doing very nice! I guess the tress drink all the water before succulents start to suffer!
Thank you all so much for what you are doing and Laura thank you for existing! I'm following you from the beginning of your channel. You wouldn't go in a flower bed cause you had new snickers! And just like that you had me! I love you all.

Olive trees are deeply rooted in my heart. I live in Sweden but I am originally from Portugal and of course, I needed an Olive tree here. I have been taking care of mine for a little over 4 years now and so far is doing quite alright. Things I learned: Give as much sun as possible and water when the soil is one or two inches dry. In the winter, it needs protection but still needs cold temps (above freezing mostly) - it can take a bit of freezing but no more than a couple of days in a row. If you plan to have your greenhouse heated, you need to take this in consideration. Mine does best in an unheated protected place.

This winter madrid had some freezing temps and lots of snow for almost a week and it did just fine. I think where Laura lives is too cold for the tree though... but as Mario said: the tree needs cold temps too, so forget about leaving it in a heated greenhouse in winter.

It's going to be such a great view when the Hartley goes in! One little piece of advice....a lot of construction guys (even green house builders) may not think they are damaging your garden beds by walking thru them....rope that area off the day before they start to keep people out. They're going to "cut through" by the end of the first day.....over and over again. If you give them their own construction path, you might end up less stressed about any damage being done.

Ciao Laura from Tuscany: Congrats on your new olive tree...it looks very healthy. A few tips (we are surrounded here with 250 ancient olives, planted many years ago
and lovingly cared for by generations of Italians)...the trees are able to withstand temperatures down into the 20's for short periods of time, in the ground and as older
trees. Your potted tree will be less able to do that, so keeping it in the Hartley in winter is a must. Olives are also able to handle dry conditions; indeed here, we get lots of
winter rain, but almost nothing from April through November....but again, your tree will need consistent watering (well-drained, of course) as a potted plant. Light feeding
when actively growing is a good idea, with a balanced food, maybe rose food or other fertilizer for fruiting trees...by the looks of that pot size, a tablespoon mixed into the
soil once a month should be fine. Your tree is beginning to flower, and will produce olives by late Fall. They are ripe when they begin to change color from bright green
to a darker shade; they will go black or dark brown when past their prime...none are edible as raw fruit, but require a whole process to make them something to enjoy
eating. That said, you will enjoy having your own olive tree that should be with you for a very long time. Any questions you can reach us at billandjohntuscany@gmail.com.
Again, congratulations! PS..talk about longevity; there are trees here in the south over 1,000 years old, still healthy and bearing fruit!

Wishing you luck with your olive tree - one just isn’t enough 😍 I’ve got several in pots around the yards. My two favorite flank the front door - one of which hosted a momma hummingbird and her two babies earlier this spring. I decided to leave the nest in hopes she comes back again. Because mine are in pots, I feed them often with fish fertilizer and citrus fertilizer and copper fungicide keeps spider mites away ♥️

I love watching you "paint" your landscapes with plants. Your rooms and vignettes of views even in the upgrades and mess are absolutely wonderful. It's a gift to look at a tiny plant and see the future with the others in its landscape. Also olive trees are a mostly forget its there type of plant. Beautiful and very low maintenance. A neighbour used to paint the bottom of his trees with a white (lime?) product to deter things creeping up the plant but he had an olive orchard. Mine does well in a pot with little to zero maintenance. Besides the occasional water I'm in subtropical south east qld Australia

Hello! I live on the French mediterranean sea side, we have a lot of olive trees here and olea europea is a very popular species. The best tip i can give you is to be very diligent about triming it especially when young. My father told me to treat olive trees as bonzais, to forecast each branch growth in 5 years time : which is gonna impact the growtch of the rest ? which is gonna be the strongest ? In general, trim with pruners and by hand, not any electrical tool. I adore your videos ! Thank you 🤠

Looking forward to seeing everything grow! The only thing I know about olive trees is what a tour guide told us in Israel, “You don’t plant an olive tree for yourself, you plant it for your grandchildren.” I think they must have slower growing varieties there, but some of their trees were supposed to be hundreds of years old.
I’m sure there are lots of other varieties that grow fast and have earlier fruit production. 💗

Thank you for showcasing how your Winter Sown containers grew on and where you are planting them. I use winter sowing almost exclusively now for seed starting here in Minnesota 4b. I don't have the ability to go up and down my stairs to start seeds indoors with grow lights anymore. The hands-off nature of winter sowing really helps me still feel that I can garden despite my disabilities. I can sit at my kitchen table in February in the middle of a Midwestern snow storm and plant all my seeds into my milk jugs with potting soil. My husband takes them out doors to the back yard and then we only have to wait for Spring when they go into my raised bed garden. I get hundreds of strong healthy seedlings for pennies. Please mention how good this method can be for the disabled. I feel I can garden again because of the lower maintenance seed starting demands of Winter Sowing. And thank you for all you do!

I live in California next to an olive orchard and my property had 15 olive trees surrounding my home. It turned out that my daughter was allergic to the bloom and oils the leaves produced so they had to go. 🥲 I have always loved olive trees with lights in them and a dinning table underneath. I enjoy them now from afar but you will love that tree as it matures.🪴

I there Laura, I have an Olive tree in a pot. It has been extremely easy to look after - and im not very knowledgeable with plants!. It just gets morning and a bit of midday sun and just a bit of frost in winter here where I live in Sydney Australia.
And it seems to cope with drying out a little bit. But doesn't like to be too wet. I have trained mine into an espalier with a square piece of lattice - which seems to be a trend around the nurseries here. Mine has just finished with a crop of black and rosie pink olives. It looks so gorgeous and pretty - And I love the grey blue foliage. - Hope this gives inspiration! 🫒
