Hey Indiana Jack love your videos . I'm a CDL Instructor near Somerset Pa where you went threw here on this video. I like using your videos in class on slow days for guys that are thinking about doing the OTR driving. They like watching your videos because you make alot of good points as to what to eat where to stop what truck stops are better than others and some good points when loading and unloading. Also they really get to see what it is like being on the road ! Keep up the great videos !!
Another thing it like to say is When you were taking about flight 93 as you were driving on the Pa Turnpike you said at 15:10 they left the plane in the hole were it crashed. I was a firefighter for one of fire departments that responded to the crash and just to correct you they did excavate the plane and as many other things they could! I believe they went down 45 to 50 feet to get to the cockpit. We spent 2 weeks there helping with the excavation along side PSP, ATF and the NTSB. Just thought I'd clear that up !! Keep up the great work !!!

My father was a trucker but I can honestly say I never seriously considered it until I started watching your videos. You're a big part of why I got my cdl and hit the road. I'm always on the look out for big red to say hey.

@hudson Kinda the same thing in the U.S. Most good trucking jobs require years of driving experience, but how are you suppose to get that experience if no one hires you? Which is why most people have to resort to mega carriers like Swift, Schneider, Warner, etc, because they will hire people right of the street and "train" drivers. But the catch is you usually have to work a year or more to pay off the schooling. It's a messed up system. Thankfully I had my dad who has a local oilfield driving job and he trained me so I don't have to deal with that BS.

Excellent video and what a journey this was. I've now clearly understood the frustration you professional truck drivers go through as spoken to by other vlogers like yourself. But it's all in a days work as the saying goes. I love the entertainment value you add to your videos...makes for an interesting and captivating view.

*Nod nod* My transmission conked out 3 months after the shop rebuilt her. I was at work when it happened. Poor car was badly neglected before I got her and it's been a struggle. Thank you for vlogging! This is refreshing my memory as a passenger from many years ago as I work towards getting my own CDL A.

Good video Jack. I feel for you barn door fellas having to look for empties, I’m a flat deck (flat bed if you’re American) hauler myself running between Canada and Texas, all of the trailers I haul are company trailers that are stored in our yard. It certainly saves me a lot of frustration in a job that is frustrating enough as it is! Keep on trucking!

I have watch Indiana jacks' video for a few years and they are so educational. I've learn about "ReGen" on a truck. That Regen will not work if the engine is not working hard enough. Still don't no what Regen is. I've learn the difficulties of finding a empty trailer.
Jack talks and explain thing why he drives...excellent...He has camera located at the right places so that you can get a view of the side and front as he drives. This is probably one of the finest video for truckers ever. I hope he will continue to educate the general public on the positive and the negatives of trucking. I wished he was a Greyhound Bus Driver.

Don't worry about the regen. Your engine uses a Variable Geometry Turbo, so it is able to create its own back pressure to increase engine/ exhaust temperature to warm the DPF catalyst enough to perform the regen. This happens while idling or running light all by itself.

My husband is a flat bed driver and he loves those "alleged" changes in delivery days or times! And like you said, the only one getting screwed is the driver!
Unless you're a driver, no one has any idea of the constant issues and problems that you have to deal with with shippers and/or receivers and then you throw in the rules and regs of various states and the federal gov't. Is it any wonder truckers can get a bad attitude!
God Bless all truck drivers and a big Thank You!!!!

When I was in grade school and it was winter time cold and wet Mom always made Quaker Oats Oat Meal *on the stove in a sauce pan.* Mom added a lil bit of MILK to it just before she'd fill our bowls for me and little sister. I'd drop globs of Brown Sugar in mine cuz that's how I liked it. Hot food for a nasty day to give us the gas we'd need for a day of learning. Mom made us toast too with *Homemade Raspberry Jam. Mom's jam won First Prize twice at Coupeville State Fair!!*

Speaking of narrow streets in NJ. I pulled a load of Mexican pickles out of McAllen TX and took them to Jersey City. The pickle factory was in an old residential area with very little parking so the four wheelers would park right up to the corners at night. I got there about 4 AM. Back then all I was pulling was a forty foot trailer but I still didn't have the room to make the turn. Luckily some police officers came along and offered to help guide me around the corner. I literally had to make about a 15 point turn. One of them was guiding me back and he guided me right into the front of one of the cars, crunching the grille and the hood. I got out to look and he said don't worry about it, they aren't supposed to be parked there anyway. :) I got back in the truck, finished the turn and made my delivery on time.

A little footnote on the travel plaza you stopped at. The Midway Service Plaza was the halfway point on the original stretch of the PA Turnpike which stretched from Irwin (Exit #67) to Carlisle (Exit #226). Also at that service plaza, there is a tunnel that goes underground and connects the other plaza on the westbound side.

Ooh boy, the look on your face when you drink that " coffee " is hilarious. Is that stuff keeps you awake? An asperine with coffeine works better if you became tired is my experience. The scariest thing that can happen is that the windshield wipers don't do their job properly anymore. I hope it didn't took to long. It was again a great video, and the music is to the point, especially when you was angry because of having no empty. Lucky you made it on time. Drive save my friend and till the next time. Greetings from the Netherlands.

I got stuck in Moriarty NM one night during a snow storm. Police blocked off I40, forcing drivers to stop. Temperatures dropped to about -15° overnight. My car wasn't setup for such cold. The next morning, I could hear ice churning in the water pump. And, once the car finally started (took many attempts) and I returned to I40, the engine simply wouldn't heat up. I eventually covered much of the radiator with aluminum foil and was able to continue without further incident.

Dixie Truckstops was a small independent chain around southern Illinois area that had Great Food, Nice Showers. It was forced out of business by the big boys.... but the restaurant were kept open by new operators. The Effingham one was an exit or so south of where you were at... if I remember right. I always stopped at good feeders... like that I-64 Nashville fuel stop that had a small shower for just a few bucks. It's meals were great.

An area in Elizabeth, NJ really sux where you have to go on a high, winding bridge between two buildings in an alleyway that is wide enough for one vehicle in order to avoid a low underpass. One day, a cop was at the other end. He saw my truck coming and yelled "Holy Shyt". I said I had no choice because of the low underpass. He said, "Yeah, I know. But it's still a holy shyt moment seeing a truck coming out of that alleyway".

I know what he means about not wanting to get stuck in New York over night. I ran out of hours and had to pull off to get my sleep hours in, and it was in January, nasty about like this video, and when I woke up around 3 am to drive again it had snowed about 4 inches and it was such a strange feeling to see nothing but white snow where it had been black parking lot the night before. Oh well, the joys of coast to coast over the road owner operator trucking. I'm retired now and I still miss driving, a lot!

I REALLY didn't want to test it, but I had no choice was completely out of hours and the place I'd planned on stopping was full and so was my backup.

Looking at one of your older vid's Indianajacktrucker. You've got me interested in trucking again, but not sure at my age. Always been interested in the industry and appreciate what truckers do for our nation. Also, OATMEAL. Have you tried the 1-min Quaker Oats tub with fruit and honey? Just add hot water and let them cook. Better than the packs, especially the sugar heavy brown sugar or any of the flavored packs.

Our company now uses park smart with idle management. It keep me worm and comfortable at night. It runs off of extra batteries and the truck will start and shut off without me doing anything. I've been at it for over 20 years and don't like some of the new things but this one is ok. Another thing I like about this system is on days off I can leave the system on and come back to a warm truck.

Unbelievable how narrow the streets were. I always enjoy seeing parts of the country I've never been to. Jack -- My oldest son would always ask in the morning about the outside temperature to decide what to have for breakfast. If it was cold? Oatmeal [2 packs, mixed -- didn't care on the flavors either]. So I know about the 2 packs of oatmeal; even I'm guilty of doing that.

I think so, too -- back in his toddler days, he would sneak into the frig to snag him some baby carrots. One day I had a "senior moment" and left an entire package of cookies within his reach. He only ate four of them the entire day.

its strange, it doesn't always happen, but if you are taking I-35 north or south, it seems the snow storms always stay north of I-35 or the worst part of the storm. not saying it doesn't snow south too. there is a Knight terminal in KC, i always stayed there during bad snow storms, if i was heading south to Ok. or Tx.

I think it was a reflection on the glass .. from some truck lights probably. If you pause the video at that point you'll see the lights seem to start from *in front* of the line of trucks.

They told me 12 bucks, I couldn't believe it, for like 35 bucks you can get a month membership to every 24 hour Fitness. I feel bad for you truckers, they try to take every penny from your bottom line. Great videos man!

It's part of like a catalytic converter on cars for trucks. A part of the engine burns up the smog particulates so they don't go into the air. my truck is the first generation of that system so it has lots of flaws.

You don't have a APU on your truck, Jack?

    • @QUIX4U
      @QUIX4U 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

indianajacktrucker I read that it's a form of self-regeneration (kind of like "making a new filter" - by using the old one - to make the new one), which although caused by the engine, can be self-cleaned by the engine too -- (however it takes away a LOT of the "usable power" of the engine whilst it is regenerating).
Basically - it's some form of "re-using" the exhausted particulates that clog up the catalytic converter type of exhaust stack that trucks use.. to self clean the thing - to thus extend the usable life of the system (without having to physically remove the clogged exhaust item and replace it with a brand new "clean" part)...?
Or have I got that all wrong?

Hi Jack. I had a marginally better experience at that same location last fall. Or maybe not. You judge: I arrived at the address on the load assignment, checked in at the guard shack. "Oh, you need to go half a block down the street to our drop yard." Did a U-turn in the tight entrance. Down the street, through that narrow alley to the next guard shack, wait while paper work is found. Nice Jamaican-sounding lady said I was a day early (news to me), but they could take the drop anyway. But I had to back three trailer lengths between the fence and several trailers parked end to end. Then guard lady gave me a map to where the empties were, a couple of miles away on those spaghetti-like northern NJ streets. Fortunately I was bobtail. Eventually found the next yard, checked in, told to go park over there and check in at another office. Checked in there, told to drive to another remote lot where the empties were, got lost again, eventually found the yard, which was a 5-acre sea of mud with trailers scattered here and there, half of them wrecked. Checked in there, found a company trailer on relatively high ground, hooked up and checked out. Took about three hours total, just for a drop and hook. Come to think of it, the day got even more bizarre after that when I went to pick up my next load (still in NJ). I'll leave that story for another time, but it involves a deaf, elderly Indian man at the guard shack trying to take down my truck information on a damp paper napkin. I ran out of hours that day before I reached the state line. ... and my Zonar crashed so that I stayed on drive line for 21 hours ... Oh God, please don't make me go back to New Jersey. please please please please please...

before they changed the exit #'s it always seemed quite long between exits, in Pa. Pa and NYC, i hated the most. Pa. cause it seemed so long, maybe because of so many hills, to go up and over and NYC because of my 2 accidents. before NYC, i'd never had an accident, in my life
