    Jack, have you been over the Big Mak bridge between Lower Michigan and the UP. What a thrill in the wind, the outside lanes are open grating but during high wind periods everybody has to run the center lane. 80,000 lbs of wafer board on the deck and it's like an empty van in that wind.
    Drive safe.

    Go over the Mackinac Bridge in Michigan at 10 mph . That can get scary! Especially if their is a decent wind blowing, which is normal.

    Jack, you ask why the Loves TS had " Handicapped '' parking space's for trucker's well let me say this I spent the last 2 year's of a 32 OTR driving carrier walking with a cane and a limp well I whished every time I stopped for a closer parking space because it was painful for me to walk well I think HC parking for trucker's is long over due and should be made more widely available in public places. thanks for the ride along Jack and be safe.

    Hiya from Australia Jack :) I only drove rigs here for a few years but it was enough to get my feet wet. Thank you for sharing the driving across the US.
    Fatigue management/driving hours are always set by people who have no understanding of the role and work that truck drivers have to do so others can have all the nice things.
    Anyway stay safe and take care on the roads.

    Nevada roads to,i drive concrete mixer and man oh man,I get Jared around good.not so bad when you are loaded,unloaded bad.there are some advantages to driving mixer,and there are disadvantages.our suspension on our trucks are Hendrix walking beam suspension,they are basically heavy duty leafsprings on the rear axles.we may not be as long as you,but you have a lot of moving parts like the mixer unit!i seen people's truck accidentally discharge without them knowing it,and spilling all over the roadway!!not to mention going around a turn to fast with the high center of gravity can roll you over,it happens all the time.sometimes I think about driving a truck with air ride suspension so my back doesn't get so beat up!!i love your videos,inspires my as a truck driver!!i do love getting up in the morning and doing my job.i had a job for 20 years that I couldn't stand,but now is much different,thank god!!be safe out there and god bless,may his face shine upon you!!!

    We are from The Netherlands and planing a 2 year vacation in the USA with an RV. My question sir is which rout has the less mountain climbing , the southern rout 5 or the northern route 80. We will be traveling from east to west . We love your channel and been looking at your video all day. We also subed to you. Thank you for your great videos . Michele in The Netherlands

    • @Eabatu
      @Eabatu 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      10 has less mountains to deal with than 80. Theres some hills to deal with in Arizona when youre going west. Once you hit Tuscon you wont have many big hills hills until you get about a few hours into California, just before Indio. After that, its smaller hills here and there along 10. On 80 its a long climb after Cheyenne into Laramie, and a bunch of hills through Wyoming. In Utah you got a nice peak to pass before Salt Lake City. In Nevada you got like 4 major summits to pass, and in California you got Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada's to deal with. Once past that pass, its all down hills until Sacramento.

    I couldn't disagree more about the need to eliminate the 14 hour clock. I'm retired now, so my "we" is used the nostalgic sense. But we have an 11 hour driving day as part of that 14 hour clock. That builds in 3 hours of "rest" time on days we're not on the dock (forget all after when the shipper or receiver is involved). The rules weren't written for the responsible among us who would honorably use the ability you talk about, but for those who would abuse it and endanger not only themselves but the non-trucking public. That isn't to consider how the companies would use it to abuse the drivers.

      On duty time and off duty (non-sleeper birth) count against your 14 hrs. If a driver stops for fuel, or gets an oil change, or some other truck related service done, that counted as on duty time. When the driver stops to get some food or take a piss, that counts as off duty time. They both count against your 14 hrs.

    Question...I have had 2x6x8 blocks pre-cut to level my very near future RV. Wouldn't that work if you parked in an non-level spot? Simply put 1-2-3 on a stack on the low side of the tractor(both tandems, and drive for a right/left adjust...step up like a ladder to whatever height needed), and, pull up on them to level the truck. Just curious. I realize that there is a weight difference, but, a 2x6x8 block can hold a heck of a lot of weight!

    Another way to squeeze some driving hours in is the eight and two split. Sleeper birth provision. 14 resets after 8 hours with 2.0 available for use immediately. I've even heard of drivers delaying 34 restarts doing this over as many days. Theoretically, your gaining 2.0 hours on every split which slows the 70 clock.

    But of the 14 on duty hours 11 of them can be driving? So it is possible to stop for two hours, and still have 12 hours of on duty available. The place to stop the clock should be at shippers that don't load on time and burn the on duty clock into the driving hours say six hour wait time. Billing for detention is an arguement here, but doesn't always compensate for the lost hours and being re-assigned loads because of time. It is always better to have hours available.

    I know a Coca Cola driver who was going through the Banning scales loaded. He got on the loaded side of the scales but must have had his mind on something else because he drove through them at 5 miles an hour (to fast!) He was promptly given a red light and was given a ticket for speeding. This was a moving violation and went on his record and he had to notify Coke of this. This goes to show you how quickly you can get into trouble when you're driving because of a little lack of concentration.

    It seems the clock thing is a very dangerous idea. I've seen in a couple of your videos where you say you are under the gun and rushing to get somewhere before the clock shuts you down. We don't want anyone driving dangerously, and being forced to rush to get somewhere is never a good idea. How long has this been in effect? What is the reasoning behind it? Am I incorrect that it turns every heavy truck into a greater danger on the highways? It seems crazy? No?
