I keep wondering, did he know where the bullet ended up? Did he see and remember? Did he calculate the probabilities? Or was it all just chance?

Hotch was the Unit Chief, not Gideon. Did Gideon have to deal with Strauss? Did Gideon hire or (almost) fire anyone? But I feel you.... and I love this show so much it's ridiculous.

I mean if you look at the team the 4 most useful people are or were gideon, garcia, reid, and hotch. 3 of which are males so for this particular team for hotch that makes sense considering two of the males are gideon and reid

To be fair, Prentiss could have been projecting. Hotch didn't trust her fully because she just appeared and was put in the team. And he had a point, Strauss wanted her to spy for her. She never did, but at that point in time Hotch didn't know her that well, so he couldn't have known
@@mariaguilar-duran6814 I think it's mostly subconscious that he trusts men more. He could've had a male figure in his life that was more reliable or something like that.
I like how in season 1 hotch makes fun of Reid for not having a gun and then makes fun of him in front of the unsub but he’s rly giving him instructions, then Reid makes fun of hotch to give him instructions- they understand eachother better than any other pair on the team I think.
Steph Vancheri hotch was also the one that told reid u dont need a gun to kill

In other words, Hotch went to his Bible because he ALREADY KNEW that Reid was deliberately wrong to signal him; he just needed to figure out what Genesis 23:4 actually is to properly decipher the clue

ok but the fact that its canon that in their spare time hotch and reid have intense debates on psychoanalysis and all that is just something so... heartwarming?? like not a lot of people would have the patience to keep up with reid's infodumping, and we see this throughout the series among the other bau members even when they just ignore him or straight up leave the convo. idk i just have a very sweet image of reid rambling on about narcissism and hotch very patiently and earnestly listening to him while conjuring up what to say in response.

This scene always amazed me. Reid's been beaten, given no food and very little water, drugged to the point of OD, resuscitated, and still somehow manages to have the mental capacity to figure out where he is and how to tell the team without Tobias knowing. This guy is my hero!

Yes Hotch is abusive
You don't need to be muscle-packed, a tough guy and swinging your fists to prove your strenght. Just because he's sensitve (which I find is also a strenght) doesn't mean he's weak. He got kidnapped, poisoned, beaten and tortured, but he still managed to keep a cool head and send message (Tobias Hankel case) or tries to make the best out of the situation (when got anthrax poisoned). Mind you, he didn't get the training for handling these situations emotionally like his team members. Heck, he even managed to confront an armed unsub and not getting someone killed (stalker case). Let's not forget that he volunteered once for getting on the train where Elle was taken hostage.
In my opinion.
He is the strongest and bravest on the entire team.
He has a huge heart that is full of love and compassion.
He felt bad about what he has to do the night he was saved during his abduction.
And I believe it broke his heart when he sent his mom to the institution.
Most people would have broken down fast during an abduction like that.
Lets not forget he's been shot 3 times.
The last thing Reid is, is weak and useless.
April Prentiss totally agree. I find it hard to believe Reid is weak, giving up quickly or pathetic, often shown in fanfics, as he is, in fact, one of the strongest members of the team. He is sensitive, too, but it doesn’t make him weak, it makes him even stronger, it makes him human. Caring and compassionate. There aren’t many people capable of that.
He is truly strong. What he endured shows that he is truly dauntless. #NZReidGirl

I love Gideon's smile when he realized Reid gave a massive clue and showed he will always be smarter than everyone. He was so proud.
The fact Reid was kidnapped for 2 days and we’ve only seen what happens like 40 minutes within those 48 hours.
I love the relationship between Hotch and Reid. Hotch has a little brother who is similar age to Reid and you can see he always have a softer spot for Reid than the others. He tutors Reid in guns and have intense debates with him. Plus unlike Hotch's little brother, Reid is a good kid that listens well. The BAU team dynamics are the cutest ever

Spence not hesitating in sacrificing himself for the team is what makes this for me. Like he had been kidnapped 2 days, doing everything in his power to not succumb to Tobias's torture and just- stay alive; but he would throw all that effort into the garbage in order for his team to be safe.
Raphael doesn't know the bible like he says if he didn't recognize that he quoted the wrong verse on purpose

@@michaelweston409 Tobias Hankel had the bible drilled into his head, so he had most of it memorized (hard not to when his father quoted it as he beat the crap out of him and took a cross shaped branding iron to his face)

@@deathbykonami5487 I know I just said that because you used Tobias having the bible drilled into his head as the reason he should have known reid was bluffing. Tobias was an active drug user who hid behind drugs and alcohol to escape his abusive sociopath of a father. Raphael was the arch Angel who twisted the bible to kill the people so he was effectively our unsub. I think the only personality that would have caught the fuck up is that of his father. If he had been the personality in control reid would have been caught. That's just my guess as to why this worked.
Reid doesn't hesitate before trying to sacrifice himself for his team. 😥 He's so noble.

Hotch: I'm a bully. Morgan: You can be a drill sergeant sometimes. Hotch: Right. Prentiss: You don't trust women as much as men. Hotch: Okay, good! I'm all these things but none of you said that I ever put myself above the team because I don't, ever. Reid and I argued about the definition of classic narcissism and he knew that I would remember that. He also quoted Genesis, Chapter 23, verse 4. (Giving JJ the bible) Read it. JJ: "I am a stranger and a sojourner with you. Give me property forbear a place with you so I may bury my dead out of my sight." Hotch: He wouldn't get it wrong unless it was on purpose. Morgan: He's in a cemetery!
The people in these situations are so quick thinkin and sharp . That’s why this shows great
and to add to that, the quote he gave is from Job, rather than Genesis. Literally hinting that he was talking about the Job/Clue.
God this scene conveys so much. Reid was buying time while Raphael was attempting to fire the bullets. He knew Raphael won’t remember the quote, but knew Hotch would remember what they talked about. He was letting him fire because he knew he would die and the team would be safe, or he could come up with something that would lead them to him.
THANK YOU!!! All these other comments talkin about how Reid calculated the odds of the position of the bullet in the chamber, and you seem to be the only one other than me saying, "maybe Reid was just being brave, buying time until the team finds Hankel"
@@subman23 I think it was less calculating the odds and more watching the barrel, he did grow up in vegas, the city of sin and cons.

You can't know where the bullet's going to be based on statistics... You can guess but you can't know for sure

+Julia Nick When calculating the odds of something happening multiple times in a row you multiple the first percentage by it's self, and then the result by the original percentage. Revolvers have 6 slots (I'm assuming for this one), so it was a 16% it wasn't in the first, 2.5% it also wasn't in the 2nd, and .4% it also wasn't in the 3rd. But revolvers can hold 5 to 9 bullets, so I could be wrong. And yeah, those aren't great odds
This revolver only did had 6 Chambers.

Damn Thomas Gibson why did you do that! I can never watch CM again. Watching this makes you feel so many things. Reid, like anyone else on the team, they'll take a bullet for each other. But they're also smart. And hotch, even Gideon thinks that he's affected by Reid's words, but he'd already got his message. Much like when in season 1 Reid figured out Hotch's plan in LDSK. Ffs get some sort of therapy, improve your behavior, apologize and come back hotch.
Hotch always did his best to save his team.Watch "Zugzwang" "Penelope", " Demonology", or " J.J". Remember that Gideon called Hotch- in tears- when his wife was murdered.

I keep rewatching this scene and I think it’s so important. I mean when Reid chooses Hotch Morgan’s expression changes, and yet Hotch is still completely focused on what Reid is saying and I don’t know if it’s Hotch believing Reid is hiding a message somewhere even before the mention of narcissism or it’s just Hotch being more focused on Reid than on the fact he got chosen to be the one that gets killed but either way it’s amazing.
But I have to say. I’m a bit disappointed in Gideon. Reid said no a few times and each one of them there could be a bullet there and yet he needed Hotch to explain that Reid was sending a message and when Hotch said that he’s not a narcissist he took it as Hotch being concerned with the way he was described and is that really what you think of Hotch?

You can see Aaron's spider senses start tingling that Spencer is talking to him not the Unsub, and so he listens closely. Then, when he hears narcissists, it triggers their previous conversation so he really focuses on Spencer's words to pick up any clues. When Spencer starts reciting the Bible, then Aaron realise it's the bible phrase that the clue and quickly knows it's incorrect, so goes out to double-check just to be sure since he worried there is a small possibility it's incorrect, which could mean they can't save Spencer.
He could see where the bullet was in the chamber. it's a revolver so you can see the bullet.
