Yeah I mean they showed he did struggle with it and mentioned it a bit throughout the seasons but i feel like they shouldve brought it up more considering that the team was his only friends.i mean they shouldve at least shown him telling them
Technically this was the best thing they could've done for him. If they asked him about it or if he told them, they'd have had to report him and that would've risked his career.
I feel kind of bad for the unsub too. He had a personality disorder and wanted to help Spenxe in anyway he could against his dad self. And my baby Reid was so sad and scared.
Not only was leaving a jackass thing to do, I'm pretty sure it's illegal to leave a ten-year-old child (even a freakishly smart one) alone with a woman who can't even take care of herself.

Have Morgan beat the hell out of him for his own good. Have him relapse after Emily, or Maeve, or Gideon. Do something with it! They really just said Oop that’s over now
I've heard that Matthew Gray Gubler asked that they drop the storyline since it felt out of character for Reid. But they do mention it a couple times, during season 3 he begins having cravings, in season 7 during his fight with JJ tells her that he thought about relapsing when he thought Emily was dead and in the final episode when he sees Foyet in his head he calls him an addict which really pisses him off

I was never sure why he didn't try to escape. The chair is pretty flimsy and he was left alone a lot. Even here he could've tried harder to stop this. Pushed the chair backwards. Forcibly refused.
He was also starved and dehydrated. And even if he did managed to escape the cabin, where would he go? He had no idea where he was except being in a forrest in the middle of nowhere. And when Hankel came back and he was gone. He could have taken the truck I guess, and gone after Reid. Because I'm pretty sure he had the keys. And if he found him, I don't think he would hesitate killing him for one second. At least the Charles personality wouldn’t.
