I once told my Thai friend about the Nanjing massacre. He always disliked China and was absolutely 0% Chinese yet he was still visibly stunned when I yapped about all the war crimes and statistics just in Nanjing alone. Bro legit went speechless for a few seconds

You know, this reminds me about a story. About a good Nazi in Nanking. It might sound crazy, but the story goes like this. Once, there was a Nazi ambassador in that King. He was living in China for many years during the Second Great War. He actually loved the place. He had many servants and many citizens. But when the Japanese invaded, many Westerners and many people left the city of that King to escape. But instead of living like everybody else, he and other ambassadors decided to stay to represent some nomadically. However, when the Japanese army started invading and burning and raping all around the countryside, the government and the city leaders left everything to the ambassadors to try to keep some order. The ambassadors decided to make an international zone to protect as many people as possible. They elected him as the leader to say, Oh look, one of your allies, the Nazis, the Germans, is the one who's leading this plan. So if you invade this international zone, you'll be the claimant in an international battle. That actually protected them from any retaliation or any war crimes that the Japanese were going to do. Sadly, the international zone was quite small, but they tried to do as much, inviting many people, Chinese civilians and others outside. Even some soldiers who escaped went into the international zone to try to be protected by the international zone. However, he was so stressed trying to keep everybody fed, keeping order and trying to calm the people down that he suddenly exploded. I mean, this madman went out of the international zone. He was a normal man outside. He was protected inside, but outside he was, well, just a man. And this guy was such a Chad. He went up to Japanese soldiers and did a hell Hitler and just screamed at them. And they had guns. And the Japanese soldier was so freaked out, so stunned for someone like him to just scream at them. They just backed off. That's how intense he was. Each day he went out of the international zone. Picked out any civilians by hearing their screams and calmly walked over them, yelled at the Japanese soldiers and picked up the victim and put them in the nearby car that he had waiting. And he did it all over that day, doing the same thing. Over and over. Not a single Japanese soldier even dared to look at him. That's how intense he was. So when I saw Nanking, man, it reminds me about that story.
Because many more could have died that day. But, man.

Yes, I have heard this story. Before Nazi Germany launched World War II (around the 1930s), the Nazi party had visited China and was very friendly with the locals. However, another axis, Japan, ruined everything.
I am familiar with this history, and this German is the Honorable Mr. Rabe. Though I don't agree with the details you know, he remains noble, and after the war he was acquitted and impoverished (of course many people remain in government service). The Chinese heard about it and the government raised money to help Mr. Rabe. At covid-2019 the Nan Jing government again helped his descendants. His kindness will always be so hard to forget. Comparing to the Mr. Schindler prototype (you can learn about his misery), the Chinese are kind.
