Took me six hours to get the ink out of the blocked collumn. It took me a while to figure out how to do it without vodka, acetone, steamer, or other things. Eventually I used paper towels, very hot water from a thermos, and a stick to guide the hot water down. THE FEELING OF VICTORY IS MAGNIFICENT.
I've had my Photosmart HP 5525 for several years and the black has not been printing properly...........found your site, just tried this "fix" and everything is working like it was brand new....................thanks so very much. Just used a mixture of rubbing alcohol and a little eye dropper.............all good.

My brother passed away from covid and I was working on his pictures till they started to turn purple because the yellow stopped working.Thanks to your video I was able to fix all my pictures and have what was important perfect pictures. As a front line immunizer, this comment breaks my heart ... that said, whatever the circumstances were of your brother's covid issue, after giving over 20,000 vaccines, it is my anticdotal evidentuary experience, the more covid vaccines and "boosters" a person receives, the more likely they are to get covid, again, and again, and again. I feel exactly the same! Fixed my HP 5520 as well. Had gone to Staples and they had told me i basically had a paper weight. I saved this one from the landfill
i followed your tips, but using just hot water to clean as indicated in one of the comments. It worked like magic. I nearly gave up and was thinking of buying a new printer. One less for landfill.
Worked well on 5520. Had to clean 3 times to clear badly blocked head (probably due to non genuine cartridge). Also used boiling water and alcohol with syringe
I winded up buying the HP 6970 for cost of ink and it uses the same ink. Also bought an Epson with the tank. It's worth the price because I print a lot and the ink levels barely move. Also love being able to see the ink. HP puts programming in their cartridges. How come the 564 new cartridge from years ago won't work? Why does it say no ink when there is ink? Why can't I use competitor cartridges? Why can't I refill them myself like we could ages ago? Refill them now and the printer stops printing. I won't buy another HP anything. Computer either, after the lemon laptop I had to trash because they only honor original purchaser. A flaw is a flaw regardless if purchased new or used. Okay, I did buy a spare used 4x6 Photosmart 330 printer. That thing is the bomb. ;)
Also, why can't I use the scanner only when out of ink? I have an old printer and don't want to buy ink but take it on the road and scan family photos. smh
Dude, I bought your printer cleaner off of Amazon to clean out the black ink nozzle that has been clogging my printer for some time, and I got it working again. Everything was right in the world for one hot minute. Then I got the dreaded ink system failure error message, possibly from manually moving the print head as per your instructions. How am I supposed to move the print head without risking damage to it when it won't let me after I power it off? It moves back to its parking spot. Anyways, long story short, the cleaning works in theory but if you slide the head around manually with the printer, you run the risk of damaging the printer. So, thanks for your help, but now I'm without a printer. Maybe time to look at an Epson Ecotank...
Yes, I could see that, but one could easily assume a syringe type thing, hot water, alcohol, paper towels or electronics cleaner might be in order... :)
I just found this printer at the curb. No ink tanks inside. I didn't know that HP had a permanent print head like Epson does. What should I do first, buy ink tanks? I bought refilled cartridges for a Deskjet 1051 I found, and they print fuzzy.

Good information to have, but my printer prints black just fine in the diagnostic printouts but not when I try to print documents from my computer. Any ideas?
@@BestPrinters I have the same issue. At the start of the day it was printing out the diagnostic in red and the cyan and black didn’t work. I followed your tips and now the diagnostic report is in black writing and all three colours except black work and show up in the boxes to diagnose. I’m still trying to clean that but it won’t print using black.

Why are HP printers 'crap'. Are all printers 'crap'? If you throw away a printer but need a printer, what (colour) printer do you recommend? Is there a black and white only printer that would be better (for black and white!)? I have a (problematic - paper feed problems) HP Officejet 6310 All-in One printer. I have also found Brother 'printers' to be problematic (with lack of ink feed).

You can find some cheap ink on eBay. Remanufactured. Low risk in case it doesn’t work.

Dumb point, if running low ink is an issue, wouldn't they warn you earlier to change it sooner?

This is a printer that will not last much longer than its guarantee, if you're lucky.

I changed my ink in my 5520 photo smart it doesn't print now paper goes in and comes right out instead of printing but it do copy ok
Use a mixture of boiling water and Mr. Clean and a standard household plunger. Works wonders for me.

the printer head bar prohibits my changing the ink cartridge. it appears to be too far forward. is it movable?
