The Old King is an allegory for the Fisher King from Arthurian legend. And the spear, chandelier and grail are a metaphor for King Arthur’s quest to find the holy grail which in turn is connected to the search for the Tree of Life. It was pretty obvious when the Lion found ‘Fealty’ in a stone in the same manner as how King Arthur found Excalibur. So, the Lion is probably going to go on some sort of quest to find the Tree of Life that Rus went after.
I think that Cypher's goal with killing the Emperor lines up with what Seraphax wanted to do in Son of the Forest: destroy Big E so that he will be reborn. The Emperor says "not yet" because he has not yet reunited with the fragment he gave up in The End and the Death that has gone off on its own and made the Star Child. The Emperor needs this fragment very badly because it contains all of his love for humanity.

That's a fun theory, but I see a relatively big issue at first glance: the king in yellow stuff happening in the books is going on before the return of Gulliman(I think roughly 100 years, but I could be very wrong), and the cypher bit happens after his return.

I would be very surprised if we don't find out one day that the Rangda corrupted number 2 or 11 and the Dark Angels actually were tasked to remove him. Maybe too late, but: You are totally right about Russ and the wolves in 30k. As SW guy it is quite frustrating: we got so little and so extremely irrelevant. There are several key ideas that went totally wrong with them, maybe caused by not having a "dedicated" writer or an overarching story (maybe cos they did not play a big part in the old lore of the heresy... but neither the dark angels). Just to point a few: - The idea that Leman and the wolves look like stupid barbarians in purpose, instead of making them look cunny, it makes them look like stupid barbarians (quite obvious!) - The thing of being against psykers is a total nosense. The closest they get to explain it is that they understand that there are things that is better to not know... but still, something is missing. I thought that, as the wolves are so relient on their instincts, it could be that they (or maybe just Russ) can "feel" when something is wrong with the warp. But the resulting cannot be just hatred, that is stupid. - The use of the legion during the whole heresy. After Prospero the only thing they do is to suicide against Horus, that's it. At the fact that they did not bring that up in the fight against the Emperor make their only contribution completely irrelevant and stupid (and not just from Leman side, but also from the Emperor's: why then did Leman got the spear if it is for nothing?) I wish they would have give some more novels to Chris Wraight

Is that in the old lore Horus made the gamble to lower his shield for the emperor to teleport onboard because hey was afraid that when the space wolfs would reach Terra he would lose the war. But in the new lore it’s the ultramarines. Ore am I wrong with this ?
We know from Cypher that dark angel swords are keys what if the lions sword is a key to something on the golden throne. We know the Emperor foresaw Cawl so perhaps he foresaw that one day the sword would be needed to activate something but because he visions aren’t absolute Cypher got to the throne room too early
The lion going down occasionally is more he is off fucking up the threats of humanity and then when he comes back for a cat nap and a cigarette he walks down to see if anything is going on in the cells

On the whole Lion/Luther thing, they do have a kind of Father/Child relationship. Weird, because of the the fast groing child, BigE coming in E and imperium stuff. But primary Luther was a knight, a caliban but somehow righteous knight. I like to think that during their fight he somehow restrain himself last minute that is why chaos wreck the planet and the lion survive. But 10k years of torment may have twisted that once again
I would say the reunion of Guilliman and Lion will be heart felt due to Lions Reaction of hearing that Guilliman is alive and walking and he says “Guilliman…. I’m not alone.”

There was a White Dwarf blurb where Blackmane was asked how he felt about the rumors of the Lion returning, he said something about a son of the Allfather is a great thing or something like that.
What I am curious about is what Lion thinks about the cult imperialis now. I mean worshipping any kind of god was forbidden during the great crusade and Lorgar was even chastised for this very reason. Now the imperium is under the cult imperialis which Lorgar brought in the first case 😂 I am really curious what Lion thinks about all this 'god emperror' stuff.
I think in the end THe Lion will not quite bend the knee to Guill but will proclaim that Guill is and should be Regent as he is more capable of ruling and keeping things running, and that he the Lion will be not only the Imperiums Sheild but its sword and he will become warmaster. Guilly can run the imperium, and the lion will defend it. I also imagine there will be the illusions to civil war as some want the lion to lead and some want guilly and the lion proclaims his brother to be leader to stop the war happening
Obvioulsy it will be more complicated and they might come to blows over certain decisions but I think the lion in his maturity will understand Guilly is the best man to rule and will follow his brother, probably at sometime doing something against guillys order and then been proven wrong and that defying him was the wrong choice

I'm sure this must've been mentioned many places but the whole depiction of The Old King in LSOtF was a reference to The Fisher King from Arthurian legend (since that seems to be the defining trope for the Dark Angels for awhile). The health of the land and kingdom wass linked to the health of The Fisher King in legend. Also the spear I agree is linked to the Appolyonian and Dyonisian Spears the Emps gave to Russ and Valdor. Links to The Holy Lance from Medieval legends. The Grail - Holy Grail but also strong links to the Blood Angels and Sanguinius. Could hold the soul of Sanguinius? Both the Lance and Grail are big plot points in the Fisher King legend. Sir Percival has to heal the king to restore the land and win the Grail. Obvious parallels there. The candelabra, again I think you're right in that's it's the Astronomican but also back in 2nd Ed the fluff repeatedly call the Emperor "The Only Light" So it's part of his motif too.

I think in the end THe Lion will not quite bend the knee to Guill but will proclaim that Guill is and should be Regent as he is more capable of ruling and keeping things running, and that he the Lion will be not only the Imperiums Sheild but its sword and he will become warmaster. Guilly can run the imperium, and the lion will defend it. I also imagine there will be the illusions to civil war as some want the lion to lead and some want guilly and the lion proclaims his brother to be leader to stop the war happening
Obvioulsy it will be more complicated and they might come to blows over certain decisions but I think the lion in his maturity will understand Guilly is the best man to rule and will follow his brother, probably at sometime doing something against guillys order and then been proven wrong and that defying him was the wrong choice

I'm sure this must've been mentioned many places but the whole depiction of The Old King in LSOtF was a reference to The Fisher King from Arthurian legend (since that seems to be the defining trope for the Dark Angels for awhile).
The health of the land and kingdom wass linked to the health of The Fisher King in legend.
Also the spear I agree is linked to the Appolyonian and Dyonisian Spears the Emps gave to Russ and Valdor.

Both the Lance and Grail are big plot points in the Fisher King legend. Sir Percival has to heal the king to restore the land and win the Grail. Obvious parallels there.
