It's a national epidemic and politicians are still only interested in how it benefits them. And now we are all in a perpetual election cycle. Politicians lying carte blanche 24/7. Don't denigrate the homeless. Denigrate and despise the people we elect, who are doing absolutely nothing.

J Parker yes you are right. . I do finger point. I finger point to policies that are created by public servants that are patronizing to the brainwashed liberals that think communism and socialism is the direction we need to head toward. When the shit hits the fan and the UC Berkeley educated socialists take over, do you think people like Pelosi and Newsome will be around? Nope. They’ll take all the money they made and move to the paradise they’ve bought multiple home at all the while the rest of the US will be like a scene from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
I come to this conclusion because in the minds of liberals, I’m wondering where the wires crossed. Something is missing. A thing called common sense and logic. Example. On what planet does this make any sense? Bizzaro world were everything is backwards perhaps? San Francisco spends MILLION of taxpayers money to hand out “free” needles so junkies can shoot up all over the city. Now the city is littered with millions of needles a year all over the streets and even found in the sand at Ocean Beach and CHILDREN’S PLAYGROUNDS! Yeah J Parker...go take your kid to walk barefoot at the playground and when he/she get stuck with a dirty needle I’m sure you won’t be “pointing any fingers” The “solution” the mayors office has to this is.... of course...... let’s pull another 4 million dollars a year to clean up all the needles they pass out in the first place. When syringes in the streets is 100% legal and plastic drinking straws are not, I question those in office and what their true agenda is. How are is that for you to understand.... without finger pointing of course.🤷🏻‍♂️

"Despite millions of dollars pouring into programs to help the homeless, their numbers continue to multiply." - This is, of course, the opposite of how reality works. The easier you make it to be homeless, both economically and socially, the MORE homeless you will have. Just as welfare makes it easier to stay poor instead of working you're way out of it. And the more you will attract from neighboring areas where it's not so easy.
Of course, some people will always say "why would anyone choose to be homeless or stay poor?" People with a different value system than you have, that's who. And the easier you make it to park in an expensive area, the more people will park. That's why government throwing money at a problem never works. It always attracts even more people who want the free money. Go figure.

I saw an article from the LA Times on May 21st that said our Gov. while visiting Oakland CA, and Mayor Schaaf, touring the Oakland Henry Robinson Multiservice Center has announced a homelessness task force. I disagree with how we are currently handling the homeless and in Oakland California is an example of how the current system does not work. If you look at why people migrate to this country, why we work so hard at our daily lives it is because the conditions where we came from were so un-barrable we made ourselves change. To do what it took to not live in poverty. The people that should get our help are the Vets and the elderly. But the young and the able should work for it. The small percentage of people that can’t fend for themselves are not what burdens our current resources, where in fact most of our resources are being consumed by the able body folks who have become lazy by all the handouts and the drug addicts habits are being supported by different programs in communities like Oakland and San Francisco. Enough of our tax dollars are being spent on this! What we need is the implementation of a reward system. Just like when we were kids, if you did good your parents rewarded you.
It is imperative that the first step be enforcement of the laws of the land and not to allow encampments that are destructive or obstructive. This is under California Penal Code 647(e) by allowing them to set up shop you are allowing them to vandalize and bring down the area to an unsanitary level. They need to just be moved on. They will get tired of this…
The second thing would be to look at the social services issue that just fuels this behavior. Our social service moto of giving with no participant contributing back is the very root cause. We need to reform it all, so it is not of a socialism moto but directly teaches and rewards for proper outcome and reintegration into our capitalist society. We have a serious skilled labor issue in this country, and we have the bodies to change it. All you need is proper motivation. Abolish the generational welfare system and mandate drug testing to receive any monetary or housing services.
When you talk about motivation and the shortage of skilled labor, it would be great if you set up a community where you train them for jobs like carpenters or plumbers or even commercial truck drivers. Most of the trucks going from coast to coast have sleepers and gives them an opportunity to put down roots where they can afford it. It would also help to set up a childcare center for the men and women who may needed while they are training for their new career. You must set time limits and boundaries. You must have them understand that this is going to be partially funded by the state and in return when they get back on their feet, they will need to pay back either financially or hours of community service and clean up. People feel emasculated by being unemployed and in a poverty-stricken situation. Instead of just throwing more money to it, let’s restructure this whole program so they contribute and feel better about themselves. You will easily be able to tell who wants to make a better life for themselves and who is happy living on the taxpayer’s dime. If they so choose a lifestyle of poverty it is up to you as the government to enforce the laws on hand to make vagrancy go away. No free handouts and yes, they need to work just like the rest of us.
    Thank you for your time

It's the same reason financial advisors aren't interested in helping the poor, there's no money in it. If you owned an apartment which has a market value rent of $1500 a month, would you rent it to someone that can only afford to pay $800 a month or would you rent it to the person that can pay $1500 a month?? The fact that everyone puts a dollar sign on real estate and they don't want to rent it for under market value as a result.

It sounds like you want to criminalize poverty. Would you agree that every human being should have food, water and place to sleep and poop? These people have next to nothing and you want to take away their freedom as well? The US has 5% of the worlds population and 25% of the people that are incarcerated. It has one of the worst social safety nets in the developed world. I don't mean to pick on you, but I just can't stand the argument that giving them even less, treating them like animals is somehow going to solve anything. Why are Americans so convinced that they have all the answers. You don't see this sort of thing happening in Denmark or even Cuba yet for some reason it is because you are giving them too much? That you are too kind to them?

These are the component to create *Homeless Shelter Villages* [HSV] using _Pallet Shelter's_ existing HSV products: the _Community Room_ sells for $37,000, the _Bathroom_ costs $35,000, and the _Services Office_ costs $9,000. So for only $81,000 a city can establish a HSV. The two person _Shelter 64_ costs $7,000. 100 X $7,000 = $7,000,000. For $7,201,000 the city can establish a HSV for 200 residents. For $160 million a city can establish 22 HSVs to shelter 4,000 residents.
