This video was the first where I heard about Kanban EV. It's been about a year now. At first, I wasn't that interested, but then you two started mentioning it more and were really enthusiastic. It proved to be catchy: I've started watching playthroughs and got so hyped. Very recently, I had the chance to finally try it, and soon after someone posted a used copy for sale at a very good price. I'm playing my second solo, and I couldn't be happier. Thank you for all the great content and especially the Kanban EV hype 🙂🚗

I am glad you guys finally got around to playing Gaia Project! One of my favorite games of all time, so much replayability; I still feel I don't know what I am doing at times after 6-7 plays and I still love it, haha. Will likely end up getting Age of Innovation this year too... Terra Mystica + Gaia Project? SIGN ME UP!

Great list! I guess I like heavy games as these are mostly games on my list (if I don’t own them already). Surprised at the lack of Vlaada Chvátil games… Through the Ages (one of my favourites) is VERY heavy (possibly heavier than anything here), and I believe Mage Knight is even heavier.
Anachrony really is the best of both worlds. Physically and mechanically heavy!

I've said it before, but I'm so glad I jumped on Prodigals Club when I first heard about it from you guys a couple of years ago. Easily one of the best in multiple categories. Best at 2p too, which is always a plus for the wife and i who play a game or two like 5 nights a week. Can't believe how hard the game is slept on
Yeah we're not sure why it didn't gain more traction, but we're SO happy y'all enjoy it!
I picked it up a few months ago but haven't gotten it to the table yet. Have a backlog to get through, and not as much time during the week. I'll also be playing it with my SO. Any tips for a smooth experience?

Good choices! Lots of titles that I like, or that I haven’t tried but are by designers I like (Lacerda and Suchý, for example)! GAIA PROJECT, PALADINS, ARK NOVA, GREAT WESTERN TRAIL, A FEAST FOR ODIN … all great games! Thanks for the video!

Awesome top ten, fellows. Yeah, the theme can send a 5 up to a 10. Ark Nova is high on my list. It's been compared to Terraforming Mars and now that we have Ares I think I'd be more inclined to get it.
For us, the first couple play throughs of Ark Nova were really difficult, because just trying to remember the rules, the iconology, and even start to develop strategy. After that, it has been so amazing. We played that game more than almost all our other games last year (Marvel Champions being the winner). There's so much to do in Ark Nova and so many strategies to explore, which really makes replaying it loads of fun.

This list is SO amazing, my god...our tastes align perfectly. I LOVE Gaia Project, I LOVE Ark Nova, I LOVE Paladins, I LOVE Prodigals Club, I LOVE Tawantinsuyu, I LOVE Odin...man. Guess I'll finally have to check out War of the Ring now, huh? Although I seldomly play 2p only and if so, we like shorter games more, not these 4 hour+ monsters like Star Wars: Rebellion for instance.
Other titles I would have personally considered to put on here are Agricola, Terra Mystica, Trickerion, Burano, The Gallerist, Bora Bora, AquaSphere, Bonfire, Railroad Revolution, ZhanGuo, Lewis & Clark, Agra, Spirit Island, Tungaru, Coimbra, Lorenzo il Magnifico, Newton, Altiplano, Brass: Birmingham, Madeira, Mombasa, Clans of Caledonia, Marrakesh, and Solarius Mission.

Firstly, thanks for covering this! I have not played Tawantinsuyu but I do play Teotihuacan with all the expansions (talk about melting the brain). Have you played Teotihuacan with all the expansions? If so, does this increase the decision space over Tawantinsuyu? Also, thanks to your explanation of "A Feast for Odin" I know have put it on my wishlist. It reminds me a lot of Caverna.
We have indeed and actually just made a video of us playing Teo with all expansions in. It was intense haha. I think Tawantinsuyu still takes it simply because with the expansion stuff on Teo you can more or less ignore it if you like and still be just fine, it just provides more avenues to explore if you wish so we love that flexibility. But that isn't to say Teo all in isn't intense because it very much is. In an awesome way
Great list guys, although I would put Boonlake over GWT personally, flow of that game just feels better to me. I would love to play all of the "T" games, only ones I have experienced are Tzolkin and Teotihuacan, my top 5 would be somewhere along these lines.
1: War of the Ring (I enjoy this as much as I do the extended movies.)
2: Dune Imperium
3: Feast for Odin
4: Ark Nova
5: Underwater Cities (should probably try Prodigals Club)
Fantastic list and cute dogs. A Feast for Odin is great. Ark Nova is amazing (and now on BGA). I’d have put Wayfarers of the South Tigris over Paladins, but Paladins is fantastic so it’s not a huge difference.
I’ll need to try a Lacerda game someday. I’ve never seen one at game night but a local game cafe had On Mars and that’s supposed to be one of the best.

Well the heaviest I own to pick up and carry up and down a flight of stairs to then place on the very top of the kallax, is Everdell the complete collection. It must weigh at least 30 lbs. :)

Idea for video, top ten games with the biggest difference in weight. Like a huge game that is simple (Foundations of Rome) or a smallest game that is really complex (Like Greenland). I think it is interesting my wife always picks the smallest box thinking it is going to easier to learn and is always surprised when we play a big box game that is pretty straight forward.

I only saw one heavy game on the list, Kanban EV. The rest are more in the medium-heavy range, and some just medium.
well obviously what is heavy to folks is a matter of perspective and these are heavy to us so our list stands
It's sad to say, but many people would have given up Pippin when he got so much bigger. It happens all the time if you can believe it. He's lucky he has you.

I have only tried a few heavier games, and mostly on BGA. I don't think it's the best way to experience some of these for the first time, I should see if I can get some heavier games played at my Sunday games meetup.

Thank you for including Ark Nova! A few TH-camrs have claimed it’s not heavy which is so demoralising because it was the first heavy game I played. A huge learning curve at first which took awhile to master. It gave me the know how to play a few Lacerdas! Now I want to try those T games!

My problem with war of the ring is that in our experience the factions are not balanced.. It feels so much harder to win with the fellowship. What is your experience?
We feel the same but I think it’s intentionally made that way. For us it feels thematic that way since it’s such an overwhelming task for the fellowship to succeed in the books so we don’t mind it here

Are Merry and Pippen Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, or others? I had a Border Collie and yours look a little smaller, but so cute.
War of the Ring is still my favorite heavy game.... My brother and I played it last week as he was finishing the LOTR walking trail over the past year (almost 2,000 miles). It is the only game that I spray-painted the miniatures for but that makes it cooler. Still getting used to the double-purpose cards after a few plays but that allows it to be replayable many times.
Obviously I cannot confirm, but they look very much like my two mini aussies. If I had to guess, I'd say that's the breed.

First off, love that idea for a list. Second, I think with this one we like having to deal with the rolls. Like the actions you have available to you in a round because of that roll makes for some fun tactical decisions. And then there's enough mitigation stuff with cards to not bum us out. And we concede that in these types of games, dice luck will be a thing and the theme forgives all! LOTR for life
@@TheBrothersMurph I think I get it. You roll the dice first, then you’re able to make decisions based off that. That seems really cool.
What I don’t like is making decisions, then rolling dice to see if that decision succeeds or fails. Sort of like skill check games. I don’t like it when I attempt an action and it fails because of a bad dice roll that occurs after the decision.
Dice before the action are ok. Dice after the actions not so much.
