    Ep. 29 . PerListen S7t Unboxing and deep dive
    Welcome to what I believe to be the VERY FIRST EVER PerListen unboxing video (Aside from Cory's short one on Tuesday).
    Super excited today guys. Never before laid eyes on these, and have only seen pictures...until now. Couldn't even find a video online of these...until today. Today we will not only unbox these units, but take you on a deep dive into, not just the specs or the product descriptions, but what those specs and product descriptions mean to you as the listener in real life.
    Also --- Don’t worry! We will still be doing a history video for the Jubilees. I know we usually do the History videos right after the Unboxings and compares, but the jubilees have a loooot of history so it’s a longer one… and we want to make sure Jim and Roy sign off on it prior to its release. Accuracy on those things is a very important factor to us!

    looks awesome. good engineering with modern materials. does it come with port plugs ?? or its already fitted ??

      In the product description it says that these are designed in a way that, it "can be configured as bass reflex or acoustic suspension and adjusted for listener preference." ... Essentially what this means is, it's a ported design, but the ports can be plugged if preferred. Plugs did not come with the units so they are configured as ported out of the box. Hope this helps!

      @@TopShelfAudio thanks! I’m a sucker for sealed speakers and subs. I recently bought Atlantic Technology 8600 speakers because they are sealed like Magicos. Makes placing them so much easier and increases bass response. That’s why I was asking

    When did the THX Dominus certification standard come out?

    • @TopShelfAudio
      @TopShelfAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was chatter about it from THX in regards to it being available around early 2020 at least. First I heard of it associated with Perlisten is around late October 2020. So, not long, but plenty long enough that other manufacturers have had an opportunity to submit their wares. -- Cory

      Thanks for watching! More info on the sub, surrounds, and center channel coming soon. As of right now, the closest distributor to you is Norway. Not exactly close but, closer than us here in the US. I'm sure distribution will spread as PerListen grows larger though so, keep an eye on their "Where to buy" page on their website for more details!

    Would a Parasound a31 or a21 be enough to drive them? Or would you go to the jc5?

    • @TopShelfAudio
      @TopShelfAudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      "Enough" is relative. If you already have the 31 or 21, they will work well for you. They will sound great and you won't be disappointed in the least.....That said, if you are buying new though, and weighing options, I would lean more toward the JC5. This is what I used for the 2 channel demo and was absolutely blown away.
      Again, the others will work for you, and I certainly wasn't anywhere near full tilt with the JC5, but I'm a firm believer in that headroom. Getting that little extra and letting everything run cooler and more efficiently instead of redlining is always worth the extra in my book.

    MDF is far superior when building speakers than HDF due to MDF being more frequency friendly. HDF hides even the GOOD frequencies and that's a really bad thing.

    • @TopShelfAudio
      @TopShelfAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Really depends on the end result you're trying to achieve and the final product here kinda speaks for itself. I'm far from the status of an engineer of any kind but, from the perspective of a listener and a enthusiast, listening to these guys there was nothing at all hidden. I heard every detail in everything I listened to. One of the best sets of speakers I've heard.

      The goal is to be inert. Ideally the things would be made out of 2 tons of concrete but alas that is not feasible. Keep in mind that tons of speaker manufacturers are using double refined cabinet grade MDF and to be honest that's as dense as a lot of HDF. It routes in the CNC machines better. It's all heavy and stiff. It's an overlapping gray area without hard standards.
      Regardless of the standards, no speaker company is literally going to say hey I just really want this cheaper lighter MDF because the good stiff stuff hides the good frequencies. Just not something I agree with.
      Now what CAN happen is that manufacturers can run into issues when building. Klipsch for example has a stated density of acceptable MDF and it is to not go over that into true HDF territory because they like to use a lot of screws and past a certain point they have trouble with screws going into the stuff. Just depends on how it's put together. -- Cory

      Lol. Thats pretty dumb saying. Normal resonance in mdf is unwanted although many speakers manufacturers want a bit of it to add coloration to sound. From perlisten perspective they most likely wanted to eliminate it as much as possible considering they aim for as accurate as possible sound profile
