I can tell you for a first time rider back in the late '70's, before the internet/youtube & video posts, this ride was infinitely scarier at night- creepy even before going thru the doors. As the ride was designed to be darker in the first part, I really thought it was going to get worse as the ride progressed. Even the attic scene then had the "pop-up" spooks that were almost in your personal space along with the constant heartbeat included(they've since been regulated to the graveyard scene). At 13 yrs old, I felt like I survived the ride!
