- In the aftermath of a zombie outbreak, zombies are cured and exiled to secluded camps. There has been talk about rehabilitating post-zombies back into society. Steve, the journalist reporting on the case, thinks the zombies still pose a threat to society. He ventures into one of these camps to prove to the world that rehabilitation is out the question.

Don and Andy show so much real compassion and empathy for eachother. It truly shows that they are truly still human. The reporter did not care that they were, he wanted a good story. Camera man on the other part seems to have a genuine interest in their story. These characters are so beautifully done, i would love to see them fleshed out more, and in a full length film.

I feel like this film might also represent how society treats depression. Some people describe depression as ''turning into zombies". The two miss their old lives and want to go back to the times where everything was fine. The recharter represents how society refuses to help those people suffering. Despite the zombies expressing mentally and emotionally human emotions they are still treated as horrible monsters leading to the recharter leaving. Just like how depressed people are still humans but society ignores their problems because they're ''different"
I think the same goes for all types of mental illness
@yourlowkeyidiot I kind of doubt it, since besides that one aspect of zombies representing depression there’s nothing suggesting that. That’s because the zombies in the short are demonized to the point where they’re forcefully segregated into ghettos and people want them to all die, since near the end of the short you could see graffiti on one of the walls saying “zombies go back to your graves”. That’s a far cry from how depression is viewed in real life since I’ve never seen anyone with depression be demonized this much. At most people have a callous, disappointed, “suck it up” attitude towards depression that’s not present in the short. Also the recharter can’t represent society ignoring mentally ill people since he’s actively trying to demonize them and push an agenda. If the recharter really represented society’s views on people suffering then he wouldn't have had an agenda and he would simply act disinterested and like his time is being wasted. Even if he had an agenda, it would make much more sense if it was to show how lazy and well off the zombies are, and instead of complaining about their pain they should just pull themselves on the bootstraps, not “look these zombies are still monsters and they should remain segregated bc they still want to kill people”
Personally I think this short is supposed to represent something like allied occupation of Germany after ww2, where the people around them demonized the Germans and wanted them all dead, and there was a debate on if they should be allowed to be independent and reunify, which in the shorts case is being reintegrated into society.
Then what would the cameraman represent here?

spot on
interesting. the zombie had a right to be angry and yet the reporter felt threatened by it.
Majin Foo I mean I found it pretty comprehendible. This is a clear case of willful ignorance and bigotry.
You enter a room with a person carrying a firearm. He doesn't threaten you any, but starts yelling and getting angry. Would you feel threatened?
The camera guy certainly didn't leave, but the other guy came in expecting an scene that fit a narrative he already made up. Hear the leading questions the guy was asking, listen to the actual responses. See the two moods the zombie couple were already bringing to the surprise interview.
I didn't see the camera person, but I like them. They were clearly looking to find the story, what ever story that may be. Look at the way the focus on how Don's self consciousness about his lack of a lower half. The focus that quickly shifts to Don when he opens up about what he misses. How they also focus on how Andy is careful to fix the flower vase on the table in the midst of Don's anger at the loss of his life.
Which is just to say, I like the composition of this video.
87CaloriesPerServing I totally would. But this guy didn't have a firearm, he didn't even have legs lol
fart face well on the other hand, you could also say that the camera guy focusing on his lower half was exploitative depending on your point of view, i mean, if a camera-man focused on a disabled person's wheelchair or something and reduced them and their whole story to their disability, and didn't respect their privacy while fighting, that would be kinda odd in my humble opinion and would make some people queasy and sick to their stomach to see that. all people have a basic human dignity and when we refuse to acknowledge that, not to be a social justice warrior because this is just common sense for me, treat people how you would like to be treated, we learn that shit in kindergarten for f*cks sake!. ...........but i like to think maybe the camera guy came with that kind of expectation and then when he focused on the flowers and showed the zombie playing harmonica, he saw through the parts that scared him and his preconceived notions about who they are and what they are, and saw two guys just trying to make something positive out of a life they had torn from them and having relationship disagreements like we probably all do from time to time.
maybe I'm reading too much into it, lol but i thought it was good, engaging, liked the characters, explored something about everyone reacts to it differently and good art tends to show you something about yourself in my opinion, so this was great. look forward to seeing more from these guys. the animation was great too.

I know Andy is the zombie portrayed as the one who cares the most in the beginning, but I think people are sleepin on Don. It takes a lot to throw away your pride and anger to heal the divide between two people, and what he did shows how much he cares for their relationship.
I 100% agree.

Media just twist the reality and project a false message. Moreover they just show what they want to show instead of the truth. Just like most people in the society they just see people for what they see from the outside not for who really are underneath the hidden skin.
Anyway this creation is highly appreciating. It deserves the recognition it gets and I wish it more.
Even bleeds more into the real world when the government use the media to push ideas across to the people that they want people to believe in. It can, has and will happen whenever the government tells them to or even just when they receive a hefty check.
I watched this 6 years ago completely unaware of the story, I didn't really like the visual aesthetic and moved on I think. I feel for both Andy and Don. Andy was really happy to talk with humans and was interested in seeing any possibility of integration. Meanwhile we have Don who is so jaded from his horrible experience of losing a career he was so passionate about and the discrimination he faces on a daily basis that he does not want to give the press the time of day. These two need each other because it seems the world is completely against them despite being cured of their affliction and posing no real threat.
This short is essentially an allegory of race relations and how despite the law saying we are created equal there are others who are treated far differently and unfairly because of attitudes of a bygone era that still persist to this day. Despite Brown v. Board of Education integrating public schools in the 1950s, public schools are more segregated now than ever.

Is there anymore
Hes making dumb anime instead
The Bomb yeah, the only anime I like is a whisker away
Agreed this is epic
One noticeable thing to me is that Andy is content in his "new" life as he isn't worrying about what he's lost by becoming a zombie while his friend is miserable thinking about the life he had 6 years ago. Acceptance is key to happiness.
But Andy is still very fragile overly enthusiastic and emotional, which means he's not really happy.
I don't really think he's happy. I think he's just in denial.
@@petitesayo4542
For sure, these two have a side that needs balancing out.
Andy clearly had a "gd life" as well, but maybe doesn't talk about it as much because he doesn't want to make Don feel even worse.
I think ur right any has accepted that’s his life and he’s happy and don just can’t accept it
"friend"
Who just went across this in youtube shorts and decided to watch it and actually liked it?
Real footage of a European journalist seeing Slavic people for the first time
I'd SERIOUSLY watch a feature film based on this premise!
District 9
I've actually watched District 9 the plots could be seen as SIMILAR but the reporters have different stances on their respective topics. The reporter from District 9 if i remember correctly was more curious than concerned.
Also I'm more talking, "cured" zombies, and societies stance on them. Like that movie Fido had an interesting look at it. and I find alien, and zombie themes tend to have different atmospheres.
In The Flesh is about reintegrating cured zombies back into society and it's really well done. It only got 2 short seasons but it's worth checking out. Some great characterisation.
Thanks! I'm gonna check that shit out!

POV: the cameraman is you
Lol makes sense since i watched till the end
Well, he is
@no one yeh....
what does POV mean
@@victortamati4896 Point of View. and I'm glad I'm the cameraman cause I'd hope I weren't as much a jerk as the reporter was to them.
I'm watching this 6 years after it posted I got scared when at 1:27 he says he's been there for 6 years
the point of this video is for you to ask yourself "who are the real monsters?" you see the guy cut in half and he seems like the monster but then you see his humanity at the end playing the harmonica for his friend, the same humanity that the "human" reporters lack when saying they are not ready for reintegration
i want this animated into a series so badllyyyy, i’ve always wanted to see a good show where zombies are just sentient, rotting people. it makes me so happy
It's not animated and approaches topic from other perspective, but maybe you can check Santa Clarita Diet.
@@Dolritto thank you so much!! i’ve heard of the show before, but i’ll definitely look into it. :)
No prob, have a nice day.
Watch Warm Bodies. I won’t spoil it, but it’s a movie where a certain zombie and a certain girl are different from the rest.
@@solomonelliott6881 oh i’ve seen it and i love it; it’s one of the things that scratches the itch. but i’m talking wide-scale zombie sentience lmao.
Damn a zombie not Zombie-ing, thats a rare sight these days
Even having relationship problem.
they are not gay
baTman 77 there's different kinds of relationships I hope you get that LMAO. You can have relationship problems without actually being in a romantic relationship
Bloodysweaters Art yesh like roommates, brothers, etc.
Bloodysweaters Art yea and this happens to be a gay one
Fatty Lucas idc what it is. It'd be cute if they were gay. I was replying to the guy denying that they're gay
To think this animation was done 6 years ago.. the level of detail in their movements are so realistic, it looks more organic rstyer fhan looking robotic and stiff
The more humans there are, the less human we are
shut up 🤣🤣
"look! humans!" everyone when coronavirus is declared gone.
@no one no
@no one
It's called dark humour, friend. Nothing wrong with making light of a bad situation so long as it's not outright offensive to people.
That will never happen
We even have the zombies!
Lol 😂🤣
If there was one word to describe this animation:
Wholesome. Just wholesome.
Everybody else describes it as Politics
Akanio Tevanos .
So there's one
That's 3 words lol
Thats 3 words
I want nothing but good things for andy, and i will do anything in my hand to make sure he gets them
You have no idea how badly I need this to be a full-length documentary series
We need to start a petition lmao
Me too, Anastasia. Me too.
You have a 666 like men
Elliphant dude yes! This must exist
Holy shit, now that you've brought it up, I can almost see it.
The daily lives of different cured zombies living in the zone. The struggles they face! The guilt of not knowing what they did after they turned!!!
SHIT! SIGN ME THE FUCK UP!!!
