    There was another part to this video I've just realised, but it got deleted while editing and I couldn't remember what it was so I left it out. I just remembered though!
    If you look up the Superfish now, you'll see they are up to number 4! How techy must number 4 be if this, number 2 was made with all these crazy materials and processes? Well, it's a PU blank, single wooden stringer, poly foam... With a swallow tail.
    Interesting to see boards like this evolving into the same construction type as Geryy Lopez was churning out in the 70's!
    Thanks for watching!

    Quick question, what is the purpose of storing the boards on their nose ?

    • @smallkinedings
      @smallkinedings  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only reason is because the board has fins in it. To store it on the tail I'd have to undo the straps on the racks to get it in but putting them nose first I can just lift the board over the straps and ''drop'' it down 🤙

    Nice vid and great repair man! 7S seems like a specialty in NZ as I remember I ve seen them quite often in shops everywhere:) But yeah, we have same shit like that - NSP pretty common here in Europe. On the other hand, I must say I had same issues repairing Slater design board or some fckn Firewire surfboards as well, as all were made out of very low density eps... as EPS/Epoxy only - surfboard builder I am honestly very alergic to those asia pop out shites (nevermind if global surf ind. or firewire etc), as they cast a bad light on EPS/Epoxy boards:) and those shites can't be comparable to quality builded eps/epoxy board made out of quality materials... anyway, looking forward to the next video, it is my "pleasure and learning" time in the night when our little one finaly falls asleep and I have a bit of a time for myself. So thank you heaps for your channel! It also brought me to a point that I started to like doing repairs more then before, even though it slows me down with custom builds :D With the fish topic, I must say you nailed it. For me, if a surfer wants to get the real fishy experience the board should not be longer then 6ft for sure and with the 6ft I concider a person which is pretty tall and heavy... On the other hand I built few mid fishes in 6.6 and those boards surf great. But of course, it is more midlenght surfing uncomparable with a short fish. There are loads of shapers here in Europe, but if you are after more alternative stuff, I would recommend to check out instagram of my mate in Ireland Elvis - booglerize surfboards. As Czech republic wise, we had some garage builders in the past, but most of them are not active anymore. From what I know, we are only two now who builds surfboards regulerly (fckn weird as we are as landlocked as possible right? hahaha). But check out also Liam, south african guy who lives here in Prague and builds boards under Chapter surfcraft, the me as Apatyka surfboards of course:-D and then in there were Demon Surfboards in Slovakia, but they were specialised more on river and wake surfboards. Btw. river surfing started to be very popular in Czech as we have a pretty good river wave right in Prague on Vltava river.. check out Vlny Stvanice. Not the same as surfing ocean waves surely, but heaps of fun though... sorry for a loooong comment :) cheers man.

      It’s always been interesting to me the HUGE array of differences in EPS/Epoxy construction from one manufacturer to the other. PU/poly seems vastly more consistent, be it an overseas pop out or a hand shaped local shaper, the two are very comparable but with EPS/Epoxy the difference in quality is astounding. I can’t help but feel the surf industry is still prototyping the construction method and just making the customers pay for the R&D.
      I’ve seen that wave in Praha, I’ve been to Prague many times, even did a 4 month stint living there eating goulash breakfast, lunch and dinner and getting fat 😆 I love Czech, it’s a beautiful place. I used to spend a lot of time in Kozakov skating down mountains

    • @milospotuzak3251
      @milospotuzak3251 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@smallkinedings To be honest, I haven't build a single board out of PU/Poly. When I built a surfboard for the first time in 2009 I had very little of informations and that time I even did not know that there are thinks like PU blanks etc, or when I found this out I did not know where to buy them. So I kept with what I could source localy, EPS blocks and Epoxy resin:) and I sticked to it.. :)) So my experiences with PU/Poly boards are from repairs only. From my point of view, EPS/Epoxy construction is brilliant, if we use quality EPS foam, high density of course, quality Epoxy made for building surfboards and quality fibreglass and the most important factor - to not cut corners in production. The only problemes I experienced with EPS/Epoxy boards were mainly on brands made in Asia as I mentioned before or if low density blank was used and if it wasn't sealed prior to glassing, or glassing were made in increasing temps - I repaired a river surfboard of some italian brand for one guy from Prague and during the pretty common dings repair I realised there are dozens of pinholes all around the rail which can happen mainly as described before.. I was fckn shocked as the board was pretty expensive... nevermind. I must alsa say that the quality of PU/Poly boards differs a lot but that is dependent on choice of the rught blank for the shape and on the laminator and sander mostyl (overshaped blanks on CNC, oversanded glassing etc) and I must say that sometimes it is frustrating to do repairs on some poly boards if the glassing sucks and it is comparable to doing repairs on shitty eps/epoxy boards:D So my conclusion is that the main thing is if the board is build properly...:)))
      Anyway, sorry for long post again.. I could chat about boards all the time hahah:))) I am happy you liked Prague, let me know if you will come there again, I can take you out to have few beers and show you some good hc/punk clubs or whatever:) Also Kozakov is brilliant downhill paradise, I used to work as a promotor on one of the Kozakov Downhill challenge comp., but it is about 15 years ago already haha:)) but still lots of good memories:) cheers mate, looking forward for another vid from you!

    • @smallkinedings
      @smallkinedings  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Jobs like these can definitely require more than one fill with your micro balloons, especially with EPS constantly trying to push air through. A couple don't matter too much but you definitely wanna fill as many as humanly possible before glassing!

    • @milospotuzak3251
      @milospotuzak3251 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@neilguy1222 really depends on what density the EPS is, Low density like 1 or 1,5lbs releases loads of air, 2 much less, 2,5 or 3lbs EPS almost does not release air and it also takes much less water inside when dinged. The trick with low/med density EPS is to do the filling, lamination, boxes/leashcups installing in decreasing temperatures, so there is a pressure deprivation in EPS and it "sucks in" instead of release...

    Great video! I have a pair of dumb questions since I've only worked with poly/PU before: First, I see you filling the cut out area with a mix-up PU foam. Would you say it's fine to fill EPS gaps with PU foam like this? Second, when you hot coat with epoxy do you have to add any surfacing agent like you would with poly, or is it just a second coat of the same resin? Thanks!

    • @aveenvp

      Also, an answer to your last question, my favorite local shaper is Chris Bauer on the Olympic Peninsula, WA, USA.

    • @smallkinedings
      @smallkinedings  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I only ever replace foam with PU, be it the pour foam or inserts. It's such a superior product that in many cases like fin boxes and leash plugs, the repair is going to be vastly better than the original construction with that added density from the PU.
      As far as the Epoxy coats go, it's the same mix as I laminated with. Some resins work much better with something like Additive F but I'm using Entropy CLR here and I'm yet to find a better Epoxy resin that just doesn't seem to get the same issues as others.
      Having a look at Bauer surfboards now, some great looking outlines and colour work!
