Love this. I've been using these kind of tricks since I was in my late 20s (I'm 61 now). And we eat well, it doesn't have to taste bad, as you've clearly proven!
Great video Josh - I've always maintained that "by default" if you cook yourself it will end up healthier (within reason of course) and will never taste the same, buuuut it's usually great in a slightly different way. One thing I certainly find to be different is the way you feel afterwards - it's just less "heavy" and doesn't contribute to an urge to nap quite so much. Really appreciate the honest tasting notes. I'd love to see a companion video about "healthier" choices when you do order fast food. There's loads of times I just can't be bothered making something - my energy, time and care-factor just don't always allow it.

I know I should be astounded at the beautiful creations that are diet friendly, and I am, but honestly I'm most impressed with the fact you know the difference between "less" and "fewer."
You can use Allulose instead of Sucrose (Sugar), because it behaves/tastes just like sugar but the body can't make use of it (because the molecule is a ring instead of a line, so there is no endpoint to break off the calorie), so its just taste without energy. Perfect for any diet including keto. You can even make caramel with it.
I really appreciate how down to earth you are, Josh. I mean, you aren't necessarily presenting the healthy options as the better ones, concerning the taste. I am also amazed by your vocabulary how to describe all the different aspects of the food *o*
Awesome video as usual Josh. I am definitely going to try some of these recipes for sure. I have yet to get your new cookbook, although I've been using the first one for a while now. The only thing I wanted to mention, is if, for your macro calculations on how much liquid the bread absorbs (not as something to do every time) you could use a scale to weigh the liquid content before and after the bread absorbs it to find out metrically how much they hold.
Amazing transformations of harmful to healthy foods! I'm always in awe of how you think outside of the box to make these creative and nutritious changes possible.
FINALLY!!!! That liquid mixture to add to the smash burger is genius and only something Josh could come up with. That’s why I need this man to make a “But Healthier” series!!!
Appreciate the push to get people to understand that dieting doesn't have to mean cutting out everything you love, or eating something tasteless. Sure, it comes to being intentional on what you're making and we all know the 'real' stuff has a different flavor. But there is just something to be said for homecooked goodness (with some bulked up veggies) that goes a LONG way.
Best youtube viseo I've ever seen. I appreciate the REAL tips to making somwthing tasty and more healthy. The fake cheese, noodles, weird ingredients in most diet suggestions is maddening and makes a person just not want to bother trying to improvw their diet. The others miss the mark, but this was perfect!
If you ever read this comment: would love a sea food focused section. I recently became allergic to most meat and so far haven’t found a situation when you can’t replace meat/chicken with shrimp, sea bass, tuna, or salmon. It’d be great to see a “sea food challenge” video where you cook meat substitutes and challenge people to guess what protein it is.
Love the diet friendly/healthy version hacks. I hope we get some healthy baked goods too. Maybe adding applesauce as a fat replacement or something. A low carb low fat brownie would be great!
just started my lifestyle change and finding recipes that are healthy but actually taste good has been pretty hard and a reason i've given up in the past so thank you so much for this
@32:20, my version of a lower carb/calorie pizza is to use a large carb friendly tortilla as a crust, while not as nice as a thick pizza, it makes for a nice ultra thin crust, i just put the tortilla in a cast iron pan, heat one side, flip, add sauce and toppings and then through under a broiler for a few minutes. still really good
love the video! a big problem for me is that it sucks cooking for every meal especially when you have a very busy schedule. Would love to see a video in this style that covers foods you can prep for the week to come 😁
Not to be that girl but Brian Lagerstrom has a good meal prep video! I think one thing that can limit Josh’s engagement with healthy meal prep is the lack of veg in recipes. I’ve lost weight just by halving the portion of anything I wanted to eat and adding unlimited veg with it (so much steamed brocoli….)
A crockpot really helps with making large meals especially soup or slow cooked meat. I freeze my beans, avocado, and cheese by portions in plastic bags for burritos. I make eggs hardboiled for several days in the fridge still in the shell. Egg salad could be frozen. I typically eat one meal a day so I just eat until not hungry.
Josh! thank you! These are the videos that we need! Please keep sprinkling these in your content! You are my go to man for recipes and these are AMAZING.
24:08 - This is one of my concerns with some recipes I've seen that are more macro-focused: frequently they have heavier salt usage to compensate for the lack of flavor being carried by other ingredients. In the short term, that may make it easier to eat leaner foods, but in the long term a saltier diet increases your risk of hypertension. There's no winning, it feels like. Also I feel like a better antidote to not having pizza on a diet is to just not have American-style pizza and instead have a more tradtional thin-crust margherita.
I know, I wish he would consider some low-sodium recipes when talking about making things healthier. These recipes look great, but in some ways they're not the kind of healthy I'm looking for right now when trying to watch my blood pressure.

I love this video because it teaches people how to find healthier options and still have amazing tasting food. I've never been someone who advocates for "diets" because the problem with them is that they are temporary fixes if they even work at all. Once someone goes "off" the diet, they immediately start eating the unhealthy food again. However, if you teach them to find healthier options that taste just as good, if not better, they will most likely start integrating those things into their everyday cooking. Also, please, if you are trying to eat healthier regardless of your reasons, please don't go to fast food restaurants. Doing so will not only change your diet, but will also help your bank account.
As someone who follows a low carb lifestyle, I am accustomed to changing recipes to fit my diet and still taste as good (if not better) than the “original”. I applaud your efforts. Really gave me even more ideas. Especially the quesadillas. Love your videos! 😊 Sent a link to your TH-cam channel to my grandson who worked as a cook. Not gonna lie. This looks amazing and my fiance got me both books for Christmas. I'm looking forward to reading them and trying as many recipes as possible.
Hey Josh, I'm a diabetic, and do low carb * and no sugar * as much as possible, these will be helpful. I have a microwave "bread" thing I do for a substitute for English muffins/scones/ etc ( even cake ) Its easy and might even work in replacement of bread ( though I miss regular bread a lot ) I use 4 to 6 teaspoons, of almond flour, an egg, a teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of water, a teaspoon of vinegar, a pinch of pink salt, a pinch of white pepper and tablespoon of oil ( I use cocoanut oil i slightly warm a bit before mixing in this helps it release from container and makes it taste nicer ). add a bit of water if it isnt cake like batter consistent when mixed. Microwave minute and a half, on high ( varies per microwave might need some testing ) then tap edges, or run knife around edge to release, and microwave a bit longer 30 to 45 seconds, to firm it more. take it out of the container, slice, and toast a bit, either on griddle or airfryer as it wont survive in a toaster. I use this to make egg sausage and cheese breakfast sandwich, also have used it in place of burger buns. While it works and isnt bad, I am hoping you might have a solution to improve it. ( Also, using this same base set of ingrediants, I have made chocolate cake, and spice cake, that was pretty nice. Used Allulose as a sweetener as it is safer for diabetic. add teaspoon of cocoa powder, and a couple teaspoons of allulose and vanilla for chocolate cake, spice cake, I did cinnamon, and ginger, with a bit of oatmeal. frosting option , is cocoanut oil, allulose, vanilla, pinch of salt, then either cocoa powder, or the ginger and cinamon. cake isnt bad, about equivelent to a box cake, nothing special but 'works'. Note, the cakes tend to expand more due to alllulose and more with oats added so use a bigger dish hehe. ) I know this is not perfect, but does seem to help for cravings. Though I miss the taste of 'real bread' for sandwiches. I'd like to see a video for diabetics in future if possible :)

That chorizo sauce looks awesome. My choice for the eggs will be pasture raised, so there are wonderful micro minerals in the yolks. Now I want a taco.
Thank you Josh for posting this video today! I was just told that I have a non cancerous brain tumor which I did surgery for yesterday. This video has really brightened my day!
HERE ME OUT!! Now i know it changes the macros but...with the peanut noodles, add a tiny bit of regular peanut butter to the peanut butter powder sauce, will give you a closer taste/creaminess 👌
I always find in the type of recipes that are lower fat and what not. There's always wiggle room. A tiny bit of butter in a pan browned can make all the difference in flavor.
Honestly, that chorizo recipe looks like something I'd make even if I'm not dieting. Chorizo often seems overpowering with spices and unappealingly greasy. This looked far more palatable!
I would just have to say thank you for your videos because you did help me with a lot of my cooking especially my Chinese cooking. You explained a lot.

Joshua - I made unhealthy foods healthy Also Joshua - In one day, I'm going to try onion rings from 18 fast food restaurants to determine the best fast food onion ring
Best series IMHO. But to be completely honest, everything we do ourselves - 10 billion % better than any restaurant can do for us, cause we’re in control. What Josh forgot to tell us, any amount of steamed, baked, lightly fried vegetables/beans - is a gr8t, testy and healthy addition to any of those “main” dishes.
My personal hack with ground beef for burgers is replace half the meat with black beans. Blend the beans with some of the water from the can until it's a smooth paste, and mix that paste into the beef by hand. This also replaces the egg some people add to burger patties.
I mean it's healthier than the original fast food, but most home cooking is better than those options anyways. Definitely adding some extras to elevate the home cooking which is appreciated. Save 200-500 calories on the main and get some veggie side dishes to fill me up and come out fuller and lower overall calories. As a diabetic, I do have to stay under a certain amount of carbs per meal so im stuck with the low carb alternatives for bread/tortilla options. 😂
Unless you have leftover egg whites please use whole eggs. Yolks are good for you even though they contain some fat. Substituting them for cheese seems to me like not a good idea from a dietary standpoint. I don't see why you can't have both in a different proportion.
Please do a "But low-carb" series. I am a type 2 diabetic, and I would love to see how creative you could get (and would be ever so grateful for something other than Pho with shiritaki noodles).
I have no idea how you manage to make so extensive videos non-stop. I'd be happy with a few shorter, easier single recipe videos in between as well. These newer videos are so ADHD, I'd just like a normal recipe for once 😄
The higher carb meals you have here are particularly well suited to eat around your training window. 1-2 hours before (depending on the amount of fat in the meal as well) or just whenever for your postworkout meal :)

Doing a half and half white bread flour and half whole wheat flour has been one of our go-to's for healthier pizza! A little weird a first, but you get used to it, and it's pretty good. I would never have thought of the yogurt thing... might have to give that a try! Love the vid as always :)

This is such a nice video and very very helpful. Have you ever thought of starting a macro-friendly channel with all types of recipes? From meal-prep recipes to nice deserts and even fancy dinners.
Fat is not the problem, Carbs in general and sugar more specifically is the real problem. We’ve been taught (indoctrinated) in our youth in a dishonest way.
While true, the problem with fat is how high calorie it is (like for real, 9kcal per gram, wtf?). If your focus is to fit back on calories specifically, cutting out large amounts of fat is a one (somewhat) easy way to do it
Carbs isn't the problem either. It depends on how active you are during the average day as acts as fuel. But yes, I agree with you on sugar (unless it's in fruit then go crazy).
He’s imitating recipes that don’t originally include fruit or veg. Which is the whole point as his versions need to somehow resemble the originals. But the beauty of cooking is that you could always chop and change recipes to meet your needs. So if you wanna add broccoli on your pizza then go for it!
Great video but honestly if you want to be healthier eliminate or reduce the carbs and sugars and add good fats like avocados (and cook with avocado oil for that matter). Eliminated the buns and keep the yokes. Your body needs these fats to absorb vitamins and nutrients. Also don’t buy processed foods that’s are “low fat”. These do more harm than good
I've been low carb/slow carb since 2020 and I have found that King Arthur keto flour makes decent bread and pizza crust. (My pizza recipe uses 200 g of flour for a pizza and it's 10 carbs per slice)...I usually replace only half the flour in a recipe with it though because it's super fucking expensive and if I keep my portion size down, I can eat what tastes almost indistinguishable to me from using regular flour. The big bonus is that my family eats it without complaint. If you are someone on a weird diet, having to either force others to eat what you eat or make two dinners is no fun. It is also really great for shaving carbs out of recipes where flour is necessary but not the star, such as in breading or thickening. It has gluten so it actually rises quite well and gives a texture similar to ap flour.
Now we just need the 'Making Healthy Foods Unhealthy' and my diet will be complete!
3 cheese ranch in everything, I completed your diet 👍
That will be $3,173.81
Thank you

I'm not even on a diet but I just love watching this man cook n damn the food makes me feel hungry!
I just want to give everyone general health tips! You can make easy changes like:
-switching to a diet soda/drinking more water
-walking at least 6 thousand steps(an hour of just walking while listening to music or a podcast)
-Find your calorie maintenance by looking up a maintenance calculator, then add 500 calories if you want to gain muscle, or subtract 500 if you want to lose weight, it’s the minimum required for weight loss.
-Eat clean and within your calorie limit for the week and at the end of the week you can have a cheat meal, for example a dinner or good lunch
-you want to focus more on protein intake(beef, chicken, Turkey, fish, shrimp, etc)
-Don’t remove your carbohydrates regardless what people say because this is what gives you energy
-Go for more volume food, like popcorn and carrots etc
-Egg white contain more protein than regular eggs, but less fats so do what you will.
-you can start the morning with a protein shake, or try not to eat in the morning, and wait until lunch
-Try sprints, for for all an all out run in 10-20 seconds, rest for 2 minutes, and go for 3 sets.
-Make sure to maximize your sleep, sleeping = not eating, not doing any bad habits.
@@MLGProMaster-tu9tz You cna loose or gain weight with 300 cal deficit or surplus
My favorite take-away is that red sauce you made for the burger patties, around 17:35 or so. Can't wait to try it myself!
Hear me out one for the breakfast sando though
The others miss the mark, but this was perfect!
love these new healthy food videos you making, any can make good unhealthy food, good healthy food takes talent
Bought both of your books. They’re really really good. Thank you for the love you put into your craft!
A low carb low fat brownie would be great!
just started my lifestyle change and finding recipes that are healthy but actually taste good has been pretty hard and a reason i've given up in the past so thank you so much for this
0:45 love u 2 bro ❤
Holy crap, this is such good timing. I just started my diet today and was already dreading looking up cauliflower options.
I hope this kind of video will be your next cookbook! Loving the “this year is the bodybuilder body year” because I’m loving these videos 😊
Josh!

These recipes look great, but in some ways they're not the kind of healthy I'm looking for right now when trying to watch my blood pressure.

also get in the gym, no reason to not be there every now and then.
and through personal experience when cutting, a 200-300 calorie deficit worked better for me
Hilarious list. Fats are better for energy, and that's how we evolved for millions of years.
> calorie limit
This is how I know not to trust your list. People have been slim and fit for thousands of years before calories were invented.
@@Asksksksk > personal experience when cutting
This isn't a general health tip. You are a body builder and you have no right to speak to anyone who isn't one. The world should be your gym if you have a normal life.
@@LordVarkson and why do you think people are fat and lazy now? Because they ignore calorie limits by indulging in gluttony. But it’s fine stay unfit buddy.
I'd love to see more low carb recipes
As someone who follows a low carb lifestyle, I am accustomed to changing recipes to fit my diet and still taste as good (if not better) than the “original”. I applaud your efforts. Really gave me even more ideas. Especially the quesadillas.
Love your videos! 😊
Sent a link to your TH-cam channel to my grandson who worked as a cook. He said he already watches and enjoys your channel!
Now Josh needs to make a but healthier cookbook
Not gonna lie. This looks amazing and my fiance got me both books for Christmas. I'm looking forward to reading them and trying as many recipes as possible.
The macros in that burger recipe are actually rly impressive
Hi food lover ❤
Hey Josh, I'm a diabetic, and do low carb * and no sugar * as much as possible, these will be helpful.
I have a microwave "bread" thing I do for a substitute for English muffins/scones/ etc ( even cake ) Its easy and might even work in replacement of bread ( though I miss regular bread a lot )
I use 4 to 6 teaspoons, of almond flour, an egg, a teaspoon of baking soda, a teaspoon of water, a teaspoon of vinegar, a pinch of pink salt, a pinch of white pepper and tablespoon of oil ( I use cocoanut oil i slightly warm a bit before mixing in this helps it release from container and makes it taste nicer ). add a bit of water if it isnt cake like batter consistent when mixed.
Note, the cakes tend to expand more due to alllulose and more with oats added so use a bigger dish hehe. )
I know this is not perfect, but does seem to help for cravings. Though I miss the taste of 'real bread' for sandwiches.
I'd like to see a video for diabetics in future if possible :)
This is awesome, any chance you could do a keto version video?
Today I made the burgers and the tacos and MY GOD sir you deserve a medal. Both delicious and neither tasted like diet food.
Can you do a video for veganuary with some nice plant based dishes? Would love to see that☺️🥦
That chorizo sauce looks awesome. My choice for the eggs will be pasture raised, so there are wonderful micro minerals in the yolks.
Now I want a taco.
You were right with the Burger, you struck gold! Why is there no restaurant chains doing this? It would be a gold mine.
You should make more of these healthier videos ❤❤❤
Thank you Josh for posting this video today! I was just told that I have a non cancerous brain tumor which I did surgery for yesterday. This video has really brightened my day!

HERE ME OUT!! Now i know it changes the macros but...with the peanut noodles, add a tiny bit of regular peanut butter to the peanut butter powder sauce, will give you a closer taste/creaminess 👌
I always find in the type of recipes that are lower fat and what not. There's always wiggle room. A tiny bit of butter in a pan browned can make all the difference in flavor.
Great stuff for folks who are looking to actually lose weight. Phenomenal for those who already workout but don't know much about macros. ❤
Don't forget all of us who can't eat fast food due to the absurd amount of SALT in it. Some of us are put on a salt restriction in our 40s.
I can see the changes in your diet & routine paying off - your face is noticeably slimmer. 💗😎👍 Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

I don’t think low calories always means healthier, it really depends on the person. Still great looking food!
You are by far the best content creator on earth in my opinion love u bro ❤
Joshua - I made unhealthy foods healthy
Also Joshua - In one day, I'm going to try onion rings from 18 fast food restaurants to determine the best fast food onion ring
Best series IMHO. But to be completely honest, everything we do ourselves - 10 billion % better than any restaurant can do for us, cause we’re in control.
What Josh forgot to tell us, any amount of steamed, baked, lightly fried vegetables/beans - is a gr8t, testy and healthy addition to any of those “main” dishes.
ngl this guy should open a restaurant
11:26 whip the egg whites to soft peaks for lighter crust and better browning
Unless you have leftover egg whites please use whole eggs. Yolks are good for you even though they contain some fat. Substituting them for cheese seems to me like not a good idea from a dietary standpoint. I don't see why you can't have both in a different proportion.
Yeah you can definitely just skip the cheese, that could also allow you to add something a little more fatty to compensate for the leaner meat.
You can buy egg whites
Please do a "But low-carb" series. I am a type 2 diabetic, and I would love to see how creative you could get (and would be ever so grateful for something other than Pho with shiritaki noodles).
I have no idea how you manage to make so extensive videos non-stop. I'd be happy with a few shorter, easier single recipe videos in between as well. These newer videos are so ADHD, I'd just like a normal recipe for once 😄
Sunny side up not over easy, but good video! I appreciate the uncompromising approach to flavor, regardless of constraints.

I love all the food you make . But unfortunately being a diabetic I can't have them /sad . is there anything you make someone like me can have??? thanks man
Liked this video so much. Would love to see more videos like this, Josh. :D

One of your best/most useful videos yet!
Fat is not the problem, Carbs in general and sugar more specifically is the real problem. We’ve been taught (indoctrinated) in our youth in a dishonest way.
While true, the problem with fat is how high calorie it is (like for real, 9kcal per gram, wtf?). If your focus is to fit back on calories specifically, cutting out large amounts of fat is a one (somewhat) easy way to do it
Calories in calories out
None of nutrients are the problem. Calories in calories out is the only problem.
Carbs isn't the problem either. It depends on how active you are during the average day as acts as fuel. But yes, I agree with you on sugar (unless it's in fruit then go crazy).
We need more of these types of videos!
There are almost no fruits or vegetables in the recipes. That would really change the numbers, let alone increase the taste.
That's not Josh's fault. But yes, it's very easy to add them in most, if not, all of these recipes as toppings or sides.
@@MrShaffu42what do you mean, that’s “not his fault”? He decides what he puts in his recipes.
He’s imitating recipes that don’t originally include fruit or veg. Which is the whole point as his versions need to somehow resemble the originals. But the beauty of cooking is that you could always chop and change recipes to meet your needs. So if you wanna add broccoli on your pizza then go for it!
As a Londoner, I love Josh’s British accent😂😂😂. It kills me every time and I’m shocked he does it as well as he does.
I would rather eat 30% less, than use low fat products.
24:00 beef shank is underrated as hell ok you need to cook it for long time to be tender but it's very tasty and hard to overcook
These do more harm than good
This is true I did it a few years ago lost 50lbs, more people should know
Loving this new series ❤
10 minutes into the video, I just realized that Joshua wears "The Original Beef" t-shirt from "The Bears"! Love that series 🙌
