Your Osmo DJI Action 4 footage is the best on the internet! How the hell do you achieve that blurry background... I mean, I saw the video where you explained it, but still, It's so mind-blowing because literally no one besides you made it so damn good!!! Plus, the video quality itself is the best one I've seen of the DJI Action 4 (and I saw many of these in the last couple of days). No trashy pixel-like structures that are typical for small sensors when the video gets uploaded on YT. The image is crystal clear + your color grading is lit! 🔥 I really want to buy the camera now and I feel inspired to get into color grading! Your content is truly amazing!
Hello. Thanks a lot! I'm really trying to make action cameras look good in a vloging scenario and I really appreciate that you noticed 👍. You will need Davinci Resolve Studio for the blurry background and I recommend it if you want to go into colourgrading. Once again thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Nice conparison, thx! Tip: set D-LogM with auto expo -1.0 compensation. Then with the first node in resolve if you adjust gamma to +0.18 you will get similar curve to slog2 with +2EV from a sony camera. Not exact match (sgamut is little twisted compared to dlogs color handling, but the saturation levels are in the same ballpark.)You can make dgamut-sgamut conversion CST and you may have to adjust the top of the waveform a little, but Sony LUTs and CST will work fine on the dlog file.
I just use a CST with Input Color Space: DJI D-Gamut, Input Gamma: Rec 2100 HLG (Scene) to transform my DLOG-M content. It works really well. I typically do two CST's... that one is on the input side to convert to DWG/Intermediate and the other one converts from DWG/Intermediate to Rec 709/Rec 709A (I'm on a mac). I then manipulate everything in the middle in DWG/Intermediate space.
Just the comparison I’ve been looking for to see how it would match to an fx3 if I get the osmo. Thank you! Also, try placing your CST node after the contrast and saturation nodes, or at the very end in general. I find it makes the highlight roll off and shadows very natural and pleasing :)
thanks for this video, i just bought the DJI Action 4 after going through so many review comparison w Hero 4 and Ace Pro, but the 10 bit D Log M for hopefully making HDR content is why I choose the Action 4. Your video on color grading here with D Log M picture profile was great!
@@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens do you guys think the D Log M in action4 give better HDR than the AI chip in Ace Pro? I see most comparison videos on YT ab 2 camera and the ace pro always better than action4 in term of HDR and retaining those highlight. I use action cam for mostly underwater shot, so I do care about highlight and shadow a lot but look like ace pro is winning now but I love D Log M in action 4. Or should I wait for action 5 when they give out 1 inch sensor like the one in pocket 3
Hello. Ace Pro uses computational photography like a smartphone to achieve that HDR. This is why it has a dedicated IA processor. I think the OA4 is good enough considering the lower price but the OA5 will be better. Especially if it gets a 1inch sensor. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Great video!! I just purchased the DJI OSMO Action 4 and I love it. I already had the DJI Mini 4 Pro so I loved the DLOG-M there so I knew I had to get the Action 4 to complement it!!
Thanks for all the information this was 10x more helpful than any other video I found. My only question is if the exported file becomes hdr or not ? Do you have any video about the exporting settings from da vinci ? Is it 8 bit or 10 bit ?
Hello. Thanks you. It depends on the video format and colour space. You can find this in Davinci timeline, colour management and export settings. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
@@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens I would prefer editing in SDR just for the conveniece of all displays, so this means that shooting in log and putting all the pipe filters will NOT force me into hdr, is this correct ?
@@Mr.Flex1992 If you export into a Rec.709 colour space, you won't be in HDR. Devices typicaly recognise HDR if the colour space is Rec.2100. It's also impossible to get a HDR look if you edit in SDR on a 8-bit SDR monitor. You just don't see the extra colours and the monitor brightness is not high enough (300nit instead of 1000nit),
@@M1R0_Life_through_a_lens I was asking this because I saw a comparison video between gopro12 and action4 and someone said that one of the very few adv of gp12 is that they can shoot in HDR, but I guess this refers into straight from the camera, but my plan was to shoot in SDR log flat colour mode and use your lut tutorial to make it more vivid, and I didnt know if the export will force me to convert it to hdr, but I understand now , I just have to export it in rec.709 colour space.
Yes! The camera HDR is a camera mode that gives a higher dynamic range video with computational photography. It's not HDR in It's true meaning. Cheers!
Hey, grt video!! One qn , y u din convert dji d gamut - dlog to davinci wide gamut in a cst in the beggining and work in davinci wide gamut and place a rec 709 cst in end? Is it coz dlog and d log m are different and so u found conversion lut rec 709 is best?
Hello. If you're manually exposing, then you have to set the settings for every clip. If you're auto exposing, then the camera does this for you. I've recently made a few videos on this topic. I invite you to check them out 😉. Cheers!
Hello I have currently the Sony A7IV and the tamron 35-150 and I wondering if the osmo action 4 is enough capable to become my wide lens in case 35mm is not enough on my Sony. I’m making documentary and sometimes I don’t have time to switch lenses that’s why I choose the 35-150 but sometimes I need wider scenes even for quick second, so do you think I can easily match the color and quality between my Sony camera and my dji osmo action 4 ? Thanks 🙏
Hello. I think yes if the scene is not too dark. You can match the colours easy if both are shooting log. The video quality comming out of the Osmo Action 4 is really amaizing. Thanks for the comment. Cheers!
Can you add markers to segment your video please? I don't want log-curves explained, as I (and probably many others) know what they mean for filmmaking.
Hello. The D-log M requires post colour grading and it offers some flexibility in this area. It also increases the dynamic range for about a stop and a half. But true the normal colours look really good on the OA4. Thanks for the comment. Really appreciate it. Cheers!
