Your videos really motivate me to learn more about my miata as well. Just ordered a new oil filter for my first evet oil change. Didn't look that hard :D
im really glad to hear that! if your car is similar to mine, i found it easiest to remove the front passenger side wheel and reach the filter through the wheel well. also if you jack it and are gonna be under the car in any way, push the car while its on jack stands to make sure its stable and have a couple redundancies like a jack and wheels under the car for safety
That the engine has gone through this without any damage shows how durable these engines really are.
im a mechanic who owns my own shop, i learned from youtube videos. I love watching stuff like this, watching you learn! brovo!
thank you!
Nice that it was something simple. Cars can be stressful, but once you get the good results after doing it yourself, it's so satisfying :)
Goodluck with your Miata ill be seeing a 1994 na Miata and hope i learn on my car soon and doing things myself and i always get hype when i see as new video come out hopefully soon.
dude it’s crazy how your channel isn’t growing much faster, I hope you blow up soon!
thank you!
Popped up on my recommended so it is getting there 😄Great video!
When the channels blows up, I`ll be able to say I was here from the beginning! :D good job! Keep an eye on the oil for the next few hundred miles, see if you are losing oil, where is it going? if it`s a leak, you know what to do, if it burns it, then you also know what to do :D
haha thank you! yeah i’ve got a bad valve cover gasket leak so i’m gonna learn how to replace that soon
@@abhi.velaga oh that's so easy. I have an NA and just as I got the car delivered, the timing belt snapped. I've done all the maintenance that I could while having the engine in a million pieces, including the valve cover gasket. For me it was a great learning curve because I haven't touched an engine before. 😂 You're doing well! Don't worry!
hey man, just stumbled upon this vid and i love the way you make content, also the videos are 40x better with the immaculate music choice
and just now learning its you that makes the music, your talented man.
@@private4317 thank you :)
I was about to buy cams for my car then I wrecked it into a guard rail, getting it fixed now but its crazy how cars and the universe knows exactly when you've budgeted and planned something out or finished something and decides it's the perfect time to serve you some fuckery.
I love to see you learn, every mechanic has started out like you. Don't ever feel discouraged, while it is your money, it is just money, the knowledge you'll gain is far more valuable than that and will likely save you money in the long run, ntm once you get it down even a problem can be kinda fun.
thank you! yeah any issue i get is honestly a fun challenge and also gives me more content to make haha
This is one of the most relatable videos I've ever watched
ha, i’m glad you’re enjoying my pain
I end up doing repairs that I know I'm not qualified to do just because I can't afford to pay a mechanic @abhi.velaga
Oil is cheaper than engines, check it often and add oil as needed is what I would do. Never know all long it will last like that.
I can relate to this so much. I own a twenty year old gs300 and everything thats been done to it I've done myself. Best of luck to your project man!
that’s really cool, thank you!
Looks like you may need to reseal the whole engine. Luckily that isn't too hard whether engine in car or out. Glad you were able to fix it and get it back up and running.
Good job man!
Awesome!
As a 1.6 owner, lifter tick or any kind of 'knock' indicates low oil or of course worse problems, one time I had only (roughly) a quart of oil in the car as the rest leaked out and it sounded like rod knock, filled the oil, got it under load, and it stopped 'knocking'
must be a Heisenberg engine
I have never worked on cars before. A few months ago my head gasket blew and I used every ounce of free time to fix it, and I finished yesterday. When I started the car for the first time I was so happy, then the revs dropped and I heard rod knock. It never really ends! Good luck with your miata and cheers to all you DIY mechanics out there :)
oh man that must have been really up and down to experience, i hope youre able to fix it soon!
Awesome video! Subscribed!
thanks!
The lesson is, check the oil level on regular schedule.
Glad you figured it out brotha ... my first question was gonna be what is your oil pressure at idle and then at cruse and at WOT .. but you was able to get it figured .. good job not giving up my miata brotha .. peace and love bro keep it rad stay safe and build on.. l8z famz and keep having fun..
on my nb miata i run redline 5w30 and the car is always super happy. The oil is higher zinc as well. It’s kinda expensive but i’d recommend to prolong engine life. for reference my car has 114000 kilometres (i’m canadian).
BG 109 is a cleaner you should try in your engine. I run it through all my high mile engines. It cleans all of the burnt carbon out of your piston rings and will improve compression and performance. Be sure to drain it and fill with clean oil.
That's crazy, low oil could mean worn main and rod bearings. But never mind just drive it while it's still alive.
Oil change isn't the easiest way to look inside. Take out a spark plug and you can see inside that way too.
the valve cover is actually coming off soon so i’m gonna inspect it better then
Sorry to see you've had a tough moment with the car. I hope the oil being re-filled is all you need and long-term damage hasn't been done from the oil level being low for a while.
Rather enjoyed the editing and pace of this video, well done.
thank you!
I would suggest changing the viscosity of your engine oil to something slightly thicker and maybe try something like Lucas Oil or Royal Purple... If you're concerned about long term health of the motor I would rent a scope and see if there is wear on the walls, also taking the cam cover off you should be able to check wear on lifters. What you can't do easily is see wear on the crank bearings.
Nice one 👍
When you were on the incline or decline the low oil definitely made itself known. Sorry you’re encountering these issues.
i probably will if a new valve cover gasket doesn’t solve all of it
cars can be an emotional roller coaster, glad it only needed an oil change. you should look at replacing that solenoid connector if it is broke, if it disconnects while your driving it could set an engine light
check the stick once a week!
keep up the great videos
I was concerned about mine losing oil, but have come to accept it as part of the character of the car. I am sure I will eventually need to address it, but as long as I keep the oil topped up, it sounds perfect.
You should look into getting an oil pressure gauge. Great videos thanks.
i agree, i would have caught it earlier if i had one
Check your timing belt. Replace the tensioner bearing and the idle bearing and the belt. I just did this a month ago on mine. There’s also a good chance that it’s the solenoid. Mine went out and I had the exact same code. I got a new one off rockauto and my car rough idle stopped instantly and code went away.
the previous owner changed the timing belt so it’s all new parts there. it runs great now but i’m researching engine rebuilds so i can be prepared if the day comes
@@abhi.velaga I think you’ll be fine. At the end of the day the issue was low oil. Nothing you could do about it now what done is done. I have a 01 VVT with 200k miles. It leaks a good bit but I drive the shit out it every day. If you wanna go to the next level run some rotella t6 through it and drive it hard. Then drain it and refill it with regular 5w30 of your choice. Thats the most you can do. Just watch your oil level I check mine about 4 times a week.
@@SizzaE60 that's really helpful, thank you!
Maintenance before mods always. Unless you have puddle of oil on the floor or engine is probably burning oil. You can try a high quality oil like Valvoline Restore and Protect and hope it frees gummed up oil control rings. You probably have more low end power now with enough oil to make the VVT actually work!
It no glitter in the old oil, probably no further damage done .
i’ve got a solid puddle on the ground so i’m not worried about burning oil. i’m gonna replace the valve cover gasket and do compression test soon to check for any other issues. the oil came out really clean and it runs great so there doesn’t seem to be any immediate damage, but of course now i’m worried about the longevity of the engine 🙃
bruh this is so me just replace everything front end of my project car then bam lifter tap! and i am not very familiar with it and planning to fix now damn but one after another...
im glad im not the only one haha
A Miata holds 4 quarts of oil and if you're filling it with 3 quarts you're still 1 quart low.
yeah, i believe i filled it close to 3.5 before the dipstick level was in the middle. i’ve been tryna figure out why i can’t get close to 4 though but it’s also really hard to read the stick sometimes
its okay! its just a 2nd gen :)
nothing of value was lost! this is satire
:o
@@everettcitty This will age badly in 10 years when unmolested NB's will become impossible to find
ls3 when ?
ha, i’ve been joking about that
who's there
😂
Crap. You could have spun the bearings. The car can still drive but some of the bearings will need to be replaced in the future. I had a scion tc which were known now for eating oil ( i followed toyota/scion oil change intervals of 10k) and it wore out the bearings. I dont know if your state does smog test, if it does check if theres oil coming out off the exhaust ports. Oil will destroy catalytic converters
so far i’ve seen no signs of that but i’m keeping a closer eye on everything now after this
open the door
this took me way too long to get lol
😂
