In particular, the people of the Sabara Tribe community used to go from village to village and perform the lively Ghuduka dance as a means of survival. This enchanting music is played by men dressed in traditional Sabara costumes, while young Sabaruni women dance to the beat of the moving instrument, creating a vibrant and captivating display of music and dance.
However, in recent times, the Ghuduka dance has almost become extinct, seen only in very rare areas and slowly getting lost in the color of modernity.
Despite this, we meet two brothers from the Tusura area of Balangir district who have kept the enchanting Ghuduka music alive even today. Bada Ghuduka and Sana Ghuduka are the talented Ghudka artists who have taken it upon themselves to revive this dying artform and promote it not only at the state level but also at the national level. Through their mesmerizing performances, these brothers have become the torchbearers of the traditional Sabara culture, preserving a fading artform for future generations. Their passion and dedication have not only helped in reviving the Ghuduka dance but also in creating awareness of the rich cultural heritage of Western Odisha.
