I live in the highlands and joined the coastguard when I left school…as a volunteer. Did a few exercises and rescues with Kintail and Skye MRT. The Coastguard, RAF and RN helicopter pilots were absolutely incredible in what they did and the winch men too. When I was still in primary school, John Prince the RAF pilot was involved in the medevac of a young girl from Skye to Inverness. She had meningitis and she died 4 hours after reaching Inverness, but that pilot flew through horrendous snow and wind to get her to Raigmore.
Wow ! We were climbing Red Gully in Coire an t' Sneachda on that day ( late Jan I think ) - heard an almighty rumbling and crash from the Goat Track, so we scampered down to find a group of lads half-buried in the snow. One of our party had a mobile (still rare in 95 ) so he headed towards Coire Cas to try and pick up a signal & raise the alarm. What a day that was - this brings it all back... cheers for preserving & uploading Larry.

Sorry Scott’s, but there is no mountain rescue possible in Scotland! Call it by its appropriate name: hill side rescue! Everything else is wishful thinking caused by way too much Scotch! 😉🤣
