This is why Jokic should win MVP every season. With him on the court every player is good, with him on the bench every player is rubbish. Is there a more clear description of value than that?
When Kareem played there were 4 good NBA teams, and the Lakers / Celtics were favored every year. Today's game is so much more competitive - its Joker all the way. The fact that he won a title with that supporting cast is incredible.
Just black would be enough. But the good thing is that it could have been used once and never again, saying such stupidity like Perkins , because the white fans voted for all the black mvps before...and especially since Jokic proved to be way over Embild after he was gifted that 1 mvp. Now people have it all clear and are even bigger fans of Jokic for that unjustified stolen mvp title.
What the hell is the "*Forgotten* Moment Changed The Course Of NBA History?" It started telling a story about Jokic being picked last for the All Star team and implied that it would dig into that, then just regurgitated a bunch of boring stats for seven minutes. What a waste of time.
Context matters for stats: if the stats are from the 70/80’s or post 2012, it will be much higher than stats from the 90’s and 2000’s. So comparing stats per game between Shaq and Jokic heavily favors Jokic. Use stats per possessions to get a fairer ( yet still not perfect) assessment.
To me what makes him so great is ive never seen someone who can elevate each of his teammates when he plays with the output he puts out by himself I've never seen a player like him usually what happens when you're such a great player is the supporting cast kind of is sidelined by the performance but someone who can not only help maintain but also increase the supporting cast output while having a insane individual game himself is just so crazy that I've never seen a player like him in nba🎉
Making everyone else better is his most important skill, arguably the most effective way of stopping Jokic is to stop him from getting his teammates involved, its better to have Jokic score 50 on you than to let him make his teammates score 15 each. The impact it has when Jokic involves others is massive because once a player gets going and in rythm it gets really hard to stop them, and winning a game where 5 players got going is far harder than when 1 player got going.
Just here to brag and point out how Joker's Nuggets just beat LeBron's Fakers by 25 points on 11/23/24. Joker had 34pts and 10rebs and LeCon had only 18pts. To say that Joker's Nuggets own the Lakers would be an understatement because LeBron and AD both want so badly to pull a Air Jordan and "take it personal" but they simply can't.
People say Shaq was so dominant. Watch that full series on 2000 against the blazers. Sabonis played him well and he never had a stand out game. And everyone knows the lakers got super lucky in winning game 7 of that series
I’ve considered jokic over shaq just because if they traded places it’s tough to say that jokic isn’t at least close and I think jokic and kobe work together for longer because there is no beef but Shaq is so damn good and we forget that. Everyone acts like La was his only good years which is just not true. Kareem is a whole different animal though. I have him at number 3 all time and could argue number 2. He’s becoming underrated as the years go by.
Joker is this generation’s Tim Duncan. An all time great that doesn’t have a big personality that garters attention so he quietly dominates while others get the limelight. Jokic like Duncan won’t truly be appreciated until his legacy is at its late part of career or even after his career.
SOMETIMES?!. That's a massive overstatement. Dude can't even play to All Star level. Dude can't put 2 good games together without Jokic overrating Jamal skill
Props for bringing up Kareem's defense and shot-blocking. So few people ever acknowledge that about him, dude was a monster on defense and probably the most overlooked shotblocker ever.
shaq didnt have the kobe we know till 00 and for 3 seasons shaq got bounced out and got mad he had to wait on kobe then in 99 kobe started getting proper minutes and showed glimpses. and shaq still had no bench till 98 cassel and eddie jones left and harper was predominantly defensive. horry and fox came in 97
Van Exel was amazing with Shaq. Jokic would be even better if he played with someone as good as Van Exel. It would be infinity more all star starting teammates that he has had up to this point
He’s this generation’s Lebron, could do almost anything. Maybe not as athletic but just as if not even more smarter. Shit, I think there’s a stat that shows how Denver is actually better defensively with him on the court. That’s what matters the most.
Bro you are out of your mind he have a life outside of basketball but his love of the game is clear as day to see and the numbers and his selfishness proves it
There is a geniune possibility that Jokic wins 4-5 more rings over the next 10 years and retires as an undeniable top 5 player of all time. He is 29. He plays a relaxed style with minimal sprinting and contact. He has a lot of time left on the court.
yes i noticed this too. Lebron made a mistake here. Larry bird saying MJ was black jesus was not a coincidence. He wanted to quell Jordans fire against him. Lebron apparently didn't get this. Also on his birthday.
Jokic said: NAH... I'd WIN I think the Nuggets told Jamal Murrray to play as a Double Agent Terrorist so Jokic don't retire early because it feels like he will retire the moment he won a 2nd one
LeFlop is no where near Jokic if we talk about impact to the game. He had to join forces with superstars to win championships while still inconsistent in shooti and can only play with ball dominant ways.
@ you don’t have to be better defensively if you can create a greater point differential through unmatched offensive production. Let’s say you have two elite players… player A is the better defender and creates an average point differential of 6 points greater than his opponent. Player B is a solid defender, but not great, but it’s so good offensively he creates an average point differential of 10 points greater than his opponent. Who’s technically the more effective player?
@ because I would say that being the best isn’t the same as being the greatest. Being the best has to do with being the most effective on the court… Being the greatest has to do with accolades and accomplishments and overall impact on the game. I don’t think Jokic is the greatest center of all time, but I do think he’s the best on the court
One thing i think you're not considering is the pace of play though (which is certainly jokics effect) but the nuggets scored a lot more than the 2000 lakers.
I'd like to see how the best defensive version of the Celtics (5 out and can inter switch) defend Jokic and make him defend and this will be the true test.
