The Braves player in the background is Ender Inciarte.
The coach in the background is wondering if Ender is going to leave him behind and ask Josh Donaldson to be his hitting coach.

I’m pretty sure when Josh Donaldson retires there will be a lot of mlb teams approach him to be a hitting coach..great player. Has been injured a lot in recent years but really knowledgeable

A lot of the techniques Donaldson is doing is what a player at his level can do because of their physical build and experience playing the game. I heard a D1 college coach say it’s incredible what Donaldson is doing and how he does it, but some younger players trying to follow this are not ready physically.
Donaldson’s college to minors to majors swing have never been the same, but were the building blocks to get where he is and helped his swing evolve.

I like this video and Donaldson’s drill. Doesn’t look crazy to me at all. Seems very clear what he’s doing and feeling. If I were him I’d probably make even bigger movements if I knew people were watching me 😂. Cuz I’d be like “I’m Josh Donaldson. Watch this.” It’d be fun to make some crap up and see if people would copy it. But then again I imagine no pro has time for that so it’s gonna be real for feel. He’s got really good flexibility from upper half to lower half and a lot of power in not the biggest - but still a good size! - frame. Maximization of power. Thanks Matt!

I agree, he might be doing it to stay loaded. I have a problem bringing my hands down when I'm seeing the pitcher release the ball. I think a drill like this can help with that issue

It looks like Inciarte behind him. Thanks for this. I'm struggling with my son right now because he's cheating with his hands while the ball is in transit and he's basically starting his swing from his armpit or chest and nullifying his load. I think talking about separation may be helpful. Keep up the good work.

Saludos y bendiciones Antonelli desde Venezuela, Ciudad Bolivar. Excelentísimo esa rutina para crear separación y a la vez tenerlo presente siempre en su memoria muscular. Lo pondré en práctica.

    Hey Man,
When u were growing up, IE, as a kid, a middle schooler, and then a high schooler, where you always the best player on the field? At what point did it become clear that you could make it to the professional levels? Where you always the "first pick" in backyard baseball?

Question...after the sing...his bat position after follow thru. Is that intended or direct placement from training?

  • @DN-nk1xt

So i see he started hitting homers and obviously he been working hard in the gym. He's 6'1"/210 and i bet incredibly strong. He was a first rounder like yourself and u know that's an incentive to get him to the big leagues as soon as possible. He obviously takes his work seriously and has done great to play 13 years in the bigs. Only thing is that u wouldn't teach a young olayer to stride open, have the barely wrap behind the head making a longer path back to the ball, and that leg kick making it hard to get your timing down.

It look like he is opening his taint. Same thing you do when you field ground balls and explode up to throw or squat heavy. Ed Coan, Goat of powerlifting recommended this when squatting.
    Cool stuff Matt!

Hi, thank you for all you help to me and many other people here!!!
I like what he’s doing but I don’t really like his swing it looks to me very level and across his body instead like you teach and I believe likely up ,so one can stay in the hitting zone as long as possible- his swing Seem to be in and out of the hitting zone and across his body.. look at his body position after he finished his swing - with level shoulders no till, what do you think about his swing when it comes to the direction of the swing and swing path?

I'm not sure if he will ever put up those HR power #'s again, as he is older now, didn't do much last year (games he played), injuries, and doing bad this season already. Also, those HR #'s were in a dome, and HR's fly out way easier. Just stating the facts. I hope he turns it all around, but I can see the explanations if he doesn't. Let's see at end of this season, as it is still very early obviously too.

@@AntonelliBaseball YEP! And, not to mention he now and a NON HR friendly ball park. Ranked 17th, and Toronto is ranked 9th on the list. So, if I were to bet on it...I don't see Donaldson hitting 40 hrs + on the Braves. All in all, that's baseball for ya. Players get older, injured etc. At least he made his millions $$$'s already. www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2022901-ranking-mlbs-most-hitter-friendly-ballparks-by-the-numbers.amp.html

@@bigleaguerbaseball6174 Fair point, but Donaldson didn't hit balls that barely left the park... He hit bombs. Even in Oakland which is not a hitter friendly park, he hit 29 bombs. I agree he isn't a 40 homer guy, but he can still burn ya
