The same as a Kia Picanto . Si what would you choose
I have one and honest impressions: - it might look big but the suspension isn’t great and you feel every bump badly for some odd reason not the most comfortable drive, been in 2007 cars more comfortable but it’s whatever - bad fuel economy. Says 1 litre automatic but takes more fuel than my old 1.6 - looks lovely and nice interior - very nippy - good car for its price but if you can afford the HS it’s the better choice in basically every area. Bigger, more premium and comfortable. ZS is still great though. I just live in London and hate dealing with bumpy roads
This design is better looking than the Duster. But it’s still ‘cheap’, even so it highlights just how overpriced cars have become in a very short space of time.
Ehhh. No. Renault used to be notorious for electrical faults, those are mostly gone. These days the problems are clutch and gearbox related. On the Dacia, also corrosion. Fair enough most of its hidden (under body or on parts that on all cars eventually rust) but it's embarrassing on a year old car (or less) having rust visible at a glance I'd you happen to look at the right angle through the alloys
The lower spec DACIA are a tad plastic inside. I have a friend who has one of these MG and to be honest it`s like a mid spec 2020 AUDI inside. It rides fine around town, has a fair bit of spec. I think it is an auto box, and pulls well. Both DACIA and MG are good for the money though. Why pay £30,000 for a MINI?
I agree. The reviewer has basically lied about the negatives on the ZS. The ZS absolutely wipes the floor with the Dacia. If you're going to review a car, tell the truth, not deliberately knock the car because you possibly have chums at Dacia also mentions the volume coming on full blast when first starting the car. Again, bullcrap, this can be reset in the infotainment system. Unfortunately, many owners tend not to read the handbook properly so they don't know how to sort out such things.
I rented a ZS 1.5 in Spain last week and I found it really comfortable during the two weeks I drove it and the tech was good…electric seats…vehicle detector on wing mirror…reverse camera and 360 camera and a load of other stuff, the only fault was power it was really bad and made the car unbearably slow and at times dangerously slow…no power when needed to overtake…come on MG…stick in a more powerful engine and you have a winner!
I rented a small car from Europecar at Manchester. I ended up with one of these. What a shed! It only had 7000 miles on the clock, there was a knocking on the steering wheel at every turn, the road noise was horrendous too, the car kept throwing up messages that there was a stability control problem and a fault on the ABS. The worst car that I have ever had as a rental. Utter junk!
Dacia Duster is still a better package and way better for off-road, which is something that Duster owners actually look for. Better interior for the MG, but basically the MG is a raised road car, a raised estate.
Cars like this just show how much brands over charge for a badge. We have a SEAT Leon 2021, based on the new Golf, Volkswagen group car and we've had nothing but trouble with it and its terrible Digital screen controlling everything in the car. We have just ordered a new MG HS Trophy because the quality inside feels similar and it has more kit for less than the price of our car, new. No brainer for us.

Friend of mine was offered either a ZS (subject to delivery time) or Suzuki S Cross (available immediately) on Motability at the same very low cost - no brainer to choose the latter and he's very pleased with it.
Hello anyone i need your help! I am still deciding to which one i should buy buy kia stonic,mg zs or Dacia sandero... ?i really like the interior of zs but i don't know a thing about engines and mechanical stuff...which one do you recommend put of these 3?
You compare to Dacia Duster with price, but did Duster have a gasoline engine like this MG? And also the same with nissan qashqai who is a bigger car with bigger cargo. Can't compare the price on this cars to this MG
Rented "Qashqai" and got this. In the hindsight should have refused as ZS was a downgrade, certainly not three large suitcases capacity, among other things. Gives you cheap vibes but not bad vibes. The satnav was sluggish and unintuitive which was annoying for a tourist. Also the car was sluggish and on-ramping needed planning. Steering was fudge like and joy of driving was moderate at max. But perceived build quality was better than expected and the cabin was roomy enough.
That's the thing with Chinese vehicles, they're very well priced and have decent styling and interior quality, but the chassis, engine, transmission reliability is a bit of an unknown, which makes it hard for someone like me to consider it. Still, these MGs are very popular here in Saudi Arabia.
I guess if you must have a new car but this is your budget, then there aren't many options. I actually think it's a decent looking car for the money but the driving experience would be a deal breaker for me. The price of the ZS would get you into a good used car in the same class but of much higher quality and ability -- a 2 year old Qashqai for example, way better than the ZS by any metric.
That's exactly opposite of what I did, I am a ZS owner here. I test drived a few used Qashiqai and decided to go with a new ZS. The video did not mention handling, which in my opinion is better than Qashiqhi.
I had one as a hire car, the steering was actually so vague and light it was unpleasant and it felt like it was going to roll over going round a roundabout at very normal speeds. The engine was slow and noisy. Not mentioned here was how terrible the stereo was, worst sounding speakers in any car.
I've just had a one way hire car of this exact model. I completed about 500 miles in a three day hire. One of the worst I've driven. The engine is very unpowered and with only 5 gears it's terrible on the motorway revving way too high. The seats are just awful made of a material that reminds me of cars from the 80s that make your back sweat on a long trip.
One thing I have noticed about most SAIC MG models is that unlike most modern cars, they don't have green tinted glass. Not even the version tested with 'privacy glass' has this on the windscreen and front windows. If nothing else, it makes them look cheap and nasty!
I had an MG6 a while back, 3yrs old 42,500 on the clock. After my 3 month warranty ran out the central console just packed up......everything that was controlled from there just did not work which left me with the very basic functions controlled via steering column. Cost of replacement for that console was £800, it took months of complaints with customer services to get my contribution down to £400 which for a three and a half year old car with less than 50,000 on the clock i found disgusting.
I have had two of these as rentals. The brakes are terrible: spongy, and you have to push way too hard to slow down. The accelerator is laggy, taking a second to respond, and then when you release it, it takes half a second to stop accelerating. The automatic gearbox is so slow. If I could choose to have infotainment from the 2000s over the shambles it has, I would. It’s laggy and unresponsive. The whole car is genuinely horrible.
I do have to say, my neighbour has one of these SUVs and.. well, the entertainment system she told me sucks 😒. I don't know if all MG's have problems like this, especially as VW entertainment systems are being known to be bad too, but I've heard Dacia entertainment systems haven't been bad so... ?
Hum. Its not bad. Its not brilliant either. I think if you took a look at the one that's in the Dacias post 2022 you'd conclude it's pretty stoneage in comparison but with less bugs. The MG one just needs "dead reckoning" turned off if it decides to reset. The physical controls of the Dacia, especially for ventilation are vastly superior but the comfort, ride and quality of the MG interior is sadly day to Dacias night. The heated seats work better on Dacias, but the blindspot monitoring is garbage. Reviewers dont get the Dacias with the dodgy gearbox and clutch, I have to be frank here and say we get fobbed off a lot here, the MG is a vastly better more comfortable car than the Dacia.
I had the misfortune of being given one as a hire car. 200 miles on the clock and the infotainment system failed during my drive to the airport. Not for me thanks.
But it looks so ... generic ? Even the poor man spec version of said Duster looks muscular , off-roady even. It does look better inside but certainly not on the outside. Bland is the word i was looking for!
I very nearly got a ZS EV for my first electric vehicle. The new version is a very attractive car. For, however, it’s got to be able to be a daily ride and a camper conversion.
I had the exclusive only comparison ive had was a logan thats was terrible the mg looks good but poor rust proofing terrible dealer network as they say buy cheap by twice
The duster is better in every single way... And id get neither. Id get a sandero stepway. Its about the same size inside, drives much better than either of those 2, cheaper to buy,.. Unless you want 4x4, which the zs doesnt get , at all, then id go for a suzuki vitara.. When the duster gets its facelift like the sandero did though, then its another story. Wait until the duster gets the renault captur chassis.

Please, please do not waste your money on an MG ev. Yes on the surface they are ‘good value’ but the reality in my experience unfortunately is that they are very poorly made, lose a fortune in value even in the first year and the garages that service them are basic and un professional. If you absolutely must buy one don’t buy it new at the very least. I’ve just sold mine in the uk, during my year of ownership I had two steering racks replaced (which was a nightmare because even the garage had to beg to mg to do it the second time) , the doors wouldn’t unlock in the rear, the rear seats when you folded them detached and I would say at least every 03rd time it would not turn on without turning it on an off. I would add something positive though , it was quite nice to drive and also I often got more range out of it in the summer than quoted. I brought it one year ago for £35,500 ( they are now selling them new for £26k believe) and have just sold it for the best offer i could for £19k. I’ve owned lots of cars, they all lose money but nothing like this and I’m not rich so couldn’t afford to keep making this mistake and don’t want anyone else to.
I had this car with exact spec, same engine but with automatic for a week as hire car. It was still brand new only a couple of hundred miles on the clock. It was an absolutely shocking experience. On first glance when I received the keys and found it in the hire car carpark it all looked promising from inside and outside too. I was impressed and said "this is actually very decent". But then after a few miles, the comfort, the interior, entertainment, the fuel consumption... everything was shockingly bad and I mean very BAD. And the most annoying thing of all was that there is NO EXTERIOR TEMPERATURE DISPLAY!!! Why? How much would it cost to ad it in? Is it an extra you have to buy? I couldn't believe this is possible in 2023, and I tried to google it and hoped that it is only a setting I need to find. But NO it just doesn't have it. OMG!!! Its actually could be a safety issue, if you don't know the outside temperature so you cant drive accordingly. Please avoid this car big time, if you want a cheap car buy the Duster. It might have less fake carbon fibre and smaller touchscreen, but at least its a honest and well working SUV with a proved off road capability (with a 4x4 spec). FYI this ZS available only FWD...
Agree I had one on hire on holiday in spain and to begin with i was really impressed. However it then broke down and had to be towed after 3 hours. Very disappointed
Lmao the way bro built up his complain was like the car's wheel randomly fell off or the engine just exploded for some reason 😅 but nope, just trivial bs, roll your window down bruh.
Do you really suggesting this Chinese MG is better than Duster? 😂 After one year this Chinese junk will be sold or returned to seller😂, Duster is cheaper and with CMF- platform is on another league
Don’t do it. Two family members have identical ZS Excites in silver and black. They’re both 22 plates and they’ve both had trim fall off. Plus the 1.5 petrol is very slow and noisy and you only get a 5 speed gearbox, the suspension clatters over the bumps. Also, the back seats are cramped with three abreast and so is the boot. Not to mention that re sale values are shocking as they depreciate like it’s falling off a cliff. Just don’t fall into the trap, just buy a used Qashqai or a used Karoq.

Definitely MG the way to go at this great value
It’s a nice car, however to be honest going up hill, power is not that great!
Dacia duster baby all day
I am driving mine for 2 years now and it is absolutely amazing. Don't listen to this guy. His review is not helping
The auto generated subtitles are hilarious. Nissan Cash Guy anyone? And I'd take a Duster over the MG any day of the week
I had the misfortune of being given one as a hire car. 200 miles on the clock and the infotainment system failed during my drive to the airport. Not for me thanks.
Looking at this car makes me even more to buy Duster 3. Thanks for the good review. 🎉
But it looks so ... generic ? Even the poor man spec version of said Duster looks muscular , off-roady even. It does look better inside but certainly not on the outside. Bland is the word i was looking for!
Another cracking video review 👍🏾

If they made a self charging hybrid l would have purchased one, But they don't,So a purchase a Toyota Yaris Cross,
I very nearly got a ZS EV for my first electric vehicle. The new version is a very attractive car. For, however, it’s got to be able to be a daily ride and a camper conversion.

New 2024 Duster blows this out of the water

I had the exclusive only comparison ive had was a logan thats was terrible the mg looks good but poor rust proofing terrible dealer network as they say buy cheap by twice
The duster is better in every single way...
And id get neither.
Id get a sandero stepway. Its about the same size inside, drives much better than either of those 2, cheaper to buy,..
Unless you want 4x4, which the zs doesnt get , at all, then id go for a suzuki vitara..
When the duster gets its facelift like the sandero did though, then its another story. Wait until the duster gets the renault captur chassis.

Why would anyone buy a car made in China with their human rights record when there are so many other alternatives?
I choose Duster every day of the week :)
Araceli Trafficway
If the old Duster is nicer to drive than this, well, that says it all really.
It's a big if.

No thanks. Made in China and looks dreadful compared to the new 2024 Dacia Duster.
Quality sucks, just like the Tesla Model 3 which is also made in China.
Yeah I wouldn't touch any Chinese car with a ten foot pole.
Then pay double the price for your car, which will STILL have components made in China, oh and don’t forget to get rid of your TV, games console, phone, computer, tablet etc as they will most likely have been made in China.
@@marksapollo made in China by a non Chinese company? or made in China by a Chinese company backed by the Chinese regime (like this MG)? There is a difference.
@@jdmguy44isn't that a bit like the old George Washington quote. You know. The one where Asian and Far Eastern races are only good when led by white officers.
Looks nice but cheaply made and no good after 3 years. They have great Chinese technology but the mechanics are lacking.
Cheaply made ? It's better than some VW products

@@administrator8 What are you suggesting ?
New duster is better in every way , in comparison was old duster

Is the car made in china?
Psssst don't say that... we glorify MG here ... the author said it is much better then 2008, let alone the Duster. 😄 🤣
Who whinges about no exterior temp gauge lol.. who gives a s***
Lmao the way bro built up his complain was like the car's wheel randomly fell off or the engine just exploded for some reason 😅 but nope, just trivial bs, roll your window down bruh.
Zzzzzzzzz
If you are honest you will recognize that is a copy of the hyundai ix35 the chinese are not able to make cars they never were will never be.....
Duster is way better
the duster isn't chinese so that's my mind made up...
These cars all have whining little engines that dont last like all the underpowered crap in the uk.
Kuhic Ford
MG is the worst car ever I drove in my life. 50 years ago cars were far better.
Do you really suggesting this Chinese MG is better than Duster? 😂 After one year this Chinese junk will be sold or returned to seller😂, Duster is cheaper and with CMF- platform is on another league
Dacia Duster 2 is at the end of its production. MG ZS: - Let's go to Europe.
when you talk about a two thousand pounds difference the Duster is better choice
A cheap Chinese car pretending to be British. More specifically cheap in quality. Some soft touch dash materials doesn't fool me. No thanks.
Whereas before it was a cheap Honda rebadged as a British car, or a cheap car from India. And you were fine with those years.
@@davidspencer7254pull the other one! Cheap Honda?! Rover benefited from Honda engineering which was in a different league to their on. Honda "benefited" from a couple of models being assembled by Rover in the midlands before setting up their Swindon plant and assembling models themselves - properly. Meanwhile Rover was dying a slow death...
@jdmguy44 ahhh so you believe that Honda engineering was superior. Let's pull your other one then, the one that can't accept the truth. SAIC fixed the K-series engine.

Would not have one for nothing.
That car is garbage 👎
In summary, it's cheap but crap. Cheap for a reason.
Had one of these rented last year and now have a Duster for a couple of weeks and have to say Duster all the way!! Massive difference from comfort ,steering ,fuel economy etc etc And now with new Duster on the way have to be out of your mind to throw the money on MG.
