I just got this car yesterday as a hire for 5 days in Spain, drove 150 today and tomorrow have 450km trip and I don't agree with your review. It drove pretty well, had 1,5 liter and ride wasn't too hard, there was 0 problem with shifting gears and overall it felt fine. Yes its not a Mercedes, but it doesn't cost like one. I saw that in Spain its starts at 17200 Euro and my has the extra interior for 1200 and for 18400 is an amazing car, looks much better than Duster and especially interior and its in a price range of Škoda Fabia, but this is much bigger car, more in size of the Karoq, I'm not suprised people are buying it, its a practical SUV which is not the fastest, but it can manage driving with no issues, just have to downshift from time to time, but even for longer trip is fine, had no issue with seating position as well. Its good car for that price, it looks and drives like 25k Euro car.

I agree. The reviewer has basically lied about the negatives on the ZS. The ZS absolutely wipes the floor with the Dacia. If you're going to review a car, tell the truth, not deliberately knock the car because you possibly have chums at Dacia also mentions the volume coming on full blast when first starting the car. Again, bullcrap, this can be reset in the infotainment system. Unfortunately, many owners tend not to read the handbook properly so they don't know how to sort out such things.

Just got back from 1 week rental from Europcar myself with a ZS, I fully concur with what you state!! The two things that I hated the most with the car were: 1) cannot move the steering wheel in and out means you're close to the wheel and as it happens i could not rest any of my elbows on the central arm rest nor the doors arm rest... how silly. and 2) engine is just too weak with hardly any torque. 1 week rental in Scotland I could not overtake a single car/lorry... frustrating ! Dacia Duster is still a better package and way better for off-road, which is something that Duster owners actually look for. Better interior for the MG, but basically the MG is a raised road car, a raised estate.

I'm trying hard to change my current car, but sky high prices are putting me out the market altogether ,i work full time and trying hard to save up every penny i can , rather then get into debt, I'm really considering the mg zs, I don't do many miles approx 5k a year, i have 3 teenagers so need the space, i don't really care about the badge on the front,i want a simple car to get me about, i don't even want a turbo as my current car had to have a replacement and they are not cheap, the mg really seems to fit everything i need in a car, hopefully in the near future I'll be getting one
If you buy/ lease it new and use it for up to 3 years, then do it. But, if you want to use it for a long time or buy it used, then I would opt for an older HoToMa (Honda/Toyota/Mazda)
I rented a ZS 1.5 in Spain last week and I found it really comfortable during the two weeks I drove it and the tech was good…electric seats…vehicle detector on wing mirror…reverse camera and 360 camera and a load of other stuff, the only fault was power it was really bad and made the car unbearably slow and at times dangerously slow…no power when needed to overtake…come on MG…stick in a more powerful engine and you have a winner!
MG just landed to Poland with the ZS, MG4 and HS. They’ll expand to Romania next. From 2024, they’ll have to expand to Switzerland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia.
I've owned one for a year now (actually cancelled my Dacia Duster order for it) and I am beyond happy with it. You get exactly what you pay for and it is definitely more premium than the Duster on the inside. The latest 2024 Duster still looks excessively cheap on the inside with all those hard plastics and the back bench is shockingly thin and uncomfortable. MG any day
Hello anyone i need your help! I am still deciding to which one i should buy buy kia stonic,mg zs or Dacia sandero... ?i really like the interior of zs but i don't know a thing about engines and mechanical stuff...which one do you recommend put of these 3?
I rented a small car from Europecar at Manchester. I ended up with one of these. What a shed! It only had 7000 miles on the clock, there was a knocking on the steering wheel at every turn, the road noise was horrendous too, the car kept throwing up messages that there was a stability control problem and a fault on the ABS. The worst car that I have ever had as a rental. Utter junk!
holy crap the prices in the UK are crazy. literially just bought one yesterday for $21990AUD drive away so in british pounds that would be approx £11395.05. but here in australia we get automatic only no manual option, yes slow as only 73kw but smoother ride and drive than a mazda cx-5 and can buy 3 of them to one mazda
Cars like this just show how much brands over charge for a badge. We have a SEAT Leon 2021, based on the new Golf, Volkswagen group car and we've had nothing but trouble with it and its terrible Digital screen controlling everything in the car. We have just ordered a new MG HS Trophy because the quality inside feels similar and it has more kit for less than the price of our car, new. No brainer for us.
Got this...largely because it's a good 20% cheaper than its nearest competitor and we thought it has the best boot if you have a dog, even though it has a ridiculously high 74cm tailgate, the boot is nice and big and doesn't have a silly sloping roof like most others.
I had a 2018 1.5 which is argurabaly not the best model of the Zs but for 20k i didnt expect much, horrible fuel economy for me at around 20mpg😢😢😢 dont know what caused it but yeah, the interior quality is what a 20k car can get you, not the best but still decently made, the suspension is not the best but not what i expected, the front suspension suffered from wearing out very quickly in the years i owned it the good thing is i never had any problems with the engine, 180kmph max speed and bad acceleration was also one of the problems, dont take it as an advice, just personal opinions.
Rented "Qashqai" and got this. In the hindsight should have refused as ZS was a downgrade, certainly not three large suitcases capacity, among other things. Gives you cheap vibes but not bad vibes. The satnav was sluggish and unintuitive which was annoying for a tourist. Also the car was sluggish and on-ramping needed planning. Steering was fudge like and joy of driving was moderate at max. But perceived build quality was better than expected and the cabin was roomy enough.
Ok looking but power is not good at all. This is perfect for local journeys but my Tiguan went into vw for a service and I thought why not rent myself a zs for a change and I went to Cornwall from Essex in it and it was comftable but 5 speed manual???!!! 100 hp
That's the thing with Chinese vehicles, they're very well priced and have decent styling and interior quality, but the chassis, engine, transmission reliability is a bit of an unknown, which makes it hard for someone like me to consider it. Still, these MGs are very popular here in Saudi Arabia.
I had one as a hire car, the steering was actually so vague and light it was unpleasant and it felt like it was going to roll over going round a roundabout at very normal speeds. The engine was slow and noisy. Not mentioned here was how terrible the stereo was, worst sounding speakers in any car.
Friend of mine was offered either a ZS (subject to delivery time) or Suzuki S Cross (available immediately) on Motability at the same very low cost - no brainer to choose the latter and he's very pleased with it.
I guess if you must have a new car but this is your budget, then there aren't many options. I actually think it's a decent looking car for the money but the driving experience would be a deal breaker for me. The price of the ZS would get you into a good used car in the same class but of much higher quality and ability -- a 2 year old Qashqai for example, way better than the ZS by any metric.
That's exactly opposite of what I did, I am a ZS owner here. I test drived a few used Qashiqai and decided to go with a new ZS. The video did not mention handling, which in my opinion is better than Qashiqhi.
Purchased 5 brand new MG ZS petrol 1.5l - recommend you to buy nissan or toyota or mistubishi or honda instead of spending on MG ZS- after 4 visits MG could not sold Oil leakage issue from engine top cover - UAE country cheif mechanic head it's normal issue " Oil Moisture". Will you accept this comment?
You compare to Dacia Duster with price, but did Duster have a gasoline engine like this MG? And also the same with nissan qashqai who is a bigger car with bigger cargo. Can't compare the price on this cars to this MG
I've just had a one way hire car of this exact model. I completed about 500 miles in a three day hire. One of the worst I've driven. The engine is very unpowered and with only 5 gears it's terrible on the motorway revving way too high. The seats are just awful made of a material that reminds me of cars from the 80s that make your back sweat on a long trip.
I have had two of these as rentals. The brakes are terrible: spongy, and you have to push way too hard to slow down. The accelerator is laggy, taking a second to respond, and then when you release it, it takes half a second to stop accelerating. The automatic gearbox is so slow. If I could choose to have infotainment from the 2000s over the shambles it has, I would. It’s laggy and unresponsive. The whole car is genuinely horrible.
The 1.5l is dreadful, I had one for 2 weeks and its got the power of a horse and cart. The boot is a weird shape. I like the way its raised off the ground but there's not a hope in hell I'd ever buy one.
I had an MG6 a while back, 3yrs old 42,500 on the clock. After my 3 month warranty ran out the central console just packed up......everything that was controlled from there just did not work which left me with the very basic functions controlled via steering column. Cost of replacement for that console was £800, it took months of complaints with customer services to get my contribution down to £400 which for a three and a half year old car with less than 50,000 on the clock i found disgusting.
Why are electrical adjustments on the seat good? There's a decent height difference between me n the Mrs and now it takes an unacceptable amount of time to move it back
I very nearly got a ZS EV for my first electric vehicle. The new version is a very attractive car. For, however, it’s got to be able to be a daily ride and a camper conversion.
I had the misfortune of being given one as a hire car. 200 miles on the clock and the infotainment system failed during my drive to the airport. Not for me thanks.
This MG has been about for a long time as well. So comparison is justified. Not saying it's any good but a lot of UK buyers have bought them ( they were on heavy discounts back in January ). A lot of Dacia about as well mind
@@robsmall6466 your point is totally valid, and the comparison is also valid. The only reason for my comment is the timing of the comparison. So, if today I'm in the market to compare between both, I shouldn't compare with this old version. That's all. If this video was released 6 months ago, I wouldn't have said a thing.

Don't know why I have told loads. Of fibs for entry system is not slow at all. Also gears there's nothing wrong with the gears u say. You can't get it in 2nd gear well I have no problem at all and as for tech show me a car that's got as much as the mg would love to know . Also u say u hit Ur head well I've never caught my head on the boot once . I agree there's no adjustment for reach on the steering but i can cope with that .I've had my car now from new on march the 10 th 2023 I've had the auto light sensor changed as it was faulty but hey I had a crossland x before and in 3 years I had 5 problems one was the auto light sensors then the moulding in the door came lose problem starting software issue so one problem in 20 me nths is not bad ithink .
Manual gearbox problems surely addressed by opting the auto box. And last time I checked, the Duster only offers a robotized manual on the top spec. As for the suggestion to consider a Fabia, which in and of itself may well be a good, surely you would then consider saving a lot of cash by considering an MG3 or a Sandero. Even though the Sandero has almost doubled in price since Covid it's still several thousand cheaper than a Fabia. Lastly, when you talk about driving dynamics and ride comfort, I wonder if the relativity equation isn't a bit skewed. Okay, it's poor compared to significantly more expensive new cars. But how does it compare to the previous generation of its competitors, because those are its price competitors? And then they have no warranty. Moreover, many buyers are older people, who have driven cars since the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, and I wonder how the driving dynamics compare to the average car in the 80s, 90s, and even the 2000s, because such are probably perfectly acceptable to many in the target audience?
I got the Duster automatic, its got a dual clutch type. Just curious at the distinction between a robotized manual and an automatic. There is no manual intervention apart from selecting P R N or D.
I do have to say, my neighbour has one of these SUVs and.. well, the entertainment system she told me sucks 😒. I don't know if all MG's have problems like this, especially as VW entertainment systems are being known to be bad too, but I've heard Dacia entertainment systems haven't been bad so... ?
Hum. Its not bad. Its not brilliant either. I think if you took a look at the one that's in the Dacias post 2022 you'd conclude it's pretty stoneage in comparison but with less bugs. The MG one just needs "dead reckoning" turned off if it decides to reset. The physical controls of the Dacia, especially for ventilation are vastly superior but the comfort, ride and quality of the MG interior is sadly day to Dacias night. The heated seats work better on Dacias, but the blindspot monitoring is garbage. Reviewers dont get the Dacias with the dodgy gearbox and clutch, I have to be frank here and say we get fobbed off a lot here, the MG is a vastly better more comfortable car than the Dacia.
You might wonder why I didn’t go for the MG ZS EV. The main reason is parkability. My Renault Zoe has a much better vehicle to park in a small town like Broxbourne.
Zs is a good package for the money and great interior. But it still looks unbalanced with the arches over the wheels (like a hippo with thin legs). Fifth gear also made this remark a few years ago. I just don’t understand why it’s been designed in this way - It looks odd. I personally prefer the Duster, it’s an awesome package and the new one is amazing.
But it looks so ... generic ? Even the poor man spec version of said Duster looks muscular , off-roady even. It does look better inside but certainly not on the outside. Bland is the word i was looking for!
The duster is better in every single way... And id get neither. Id get a sandero stepway. Its about the same size inside, drives much better than either of those 2, cheaper to buy,.. Unless you want 4x4, which the zs doesnt get , at all, then id go for a suzuki vitara.. When the duster gets its facelift like the sandero did though, then its another story. Wait until the duster gets the renault captur chassis.

MG ZS/Auto for 2 years now. No issues to date. Would have liked better mpg.
Just driven one 540 miles in a day, perfectly fine.
Can parts be easily accessed since it is not a common brand?

I've just bought one and I love driving I find it more comfortable than my yaris I love it I'm in New Zealand
Utter junk!
I'd be more than happy with the model with out the tablet on the center console. That should be an option for more vehicles.
holy crap the prices in the UK are crazy. literially just bought one yesterday for $21990AUD drive away so in british pounds that would be approx £11395.05. but here in australia we get automatic only no manual option, yes slow as only 73kw but smoother ride and drive than a mazda cx-5 and can buy 3 of them to one mazda
Dammmm a digital display at £21000?!? That’s unheard of.
It doesn’t actually do much other than show a nice picture of the car, so it’s pointless.
@@oliverstemp9132it shows the car in front, lane assist/departure as well
That costs around a 100 bucks you can install to any car you want
Got this...largely because it's a good 20% cheaper than its nearest competitor and we thought it has the best boot if you have a dog, even though it has a ridiculously high 74cm tailgate, the boot is nice and big and doesn't have a silly sloping roof like most others.
I am driving mine for 2 years now and it is absolutely amazing. Don't listen to this guy. His review is not helping
Highly recommend the automatic MG ZS - excellent value for money
I had a 2018 1.5 which is argurabaly not the best model of the Zs but for 20k i didnt expect much, horrible fuel economy for me at around 20mpg😢😢😢 dont know what caused it but yeah, the interior quality is what a 20k car can get you, not the best but still decently made, the suspension is not the best but not what i expected, the front suspension suffered from wearing out very quickly in the years i owned it the good thing is i never had any problems with the engine, 180kmph max speed and bad acceleration was also one of the problems, dont take it as an advice, just personal opinions.
Hows it compare to a Citreon C5 Aircross?
I have a MG ZS 2023 and don't have any problems till yet
Best selling car in Australia that's not a pickup truck/ute
Whose buying them all, Chinese?
@@robertmitchell6080 everyone
100 hp
Just test drove this. Very decent.
That's the thing with Chinese vehicles, they're very well priced and have decent styling and interior quality, but the chassis, engine, transmission reliability is a bit of an unknown, which makes it hard for someone like me to consider it. Still, these MGs are very popular here in Saudi Arabia.
It’s a Vauxhall engine mate
@@OldLien1 thanks for letting me know. I think the Chinese vehicles use older engines, right?
This doesn't sound like the ZS that we have? It's a perfectly competent SUV which is now approaching the end of its run. It will be replaced in 2025.
If it had to be a combustion engine, surprising that MG hasn't developed a mild hybrid or regular hybrid
MG HS SUV offers hybrid. Supposedly the new MG3 will as well
I got rid of a 9yo duster for one of these, worst mistake ever, its been a banger since day one. Owned it 20montns and getting rid now
I had one as a hire car, the steering was actually so vague and light it was unpleasant and it felt like it was going to roll over going round a roundabout at very normal speeds. The engine was slow and noisy. Not mentioned here was how terrible the stereo was, worst sounding speakers in any car.
And the author said it is much better then the 2008 😄 🤣 😂
@@BrateTebra123 it definitely isn’t better than a 2008
@@oliverstemp9132 I know, but it is funny how biased the author is
Friend of mine was offered either a ZS (subject to delivery time) or Suzuki S Cross (available immediately) on Motability at the same very low cost - no brainer to choose the latter and he's very pleased with it.
So person never tried an MGZS, got an S Cross and was happy with it. I feel informed. 😂
This is way better than s cross ma man wtf are you talking about
Definitely MG the way to go at this great value
There's a new ZS out this month,
The auto generated subtitles are hilarious. Nissan Cash Guy anyone? And I'd take a Duster over the MG any day of the week
MG ZS 2024 brand new costs 11.000$ in Libya (not well known locally)still hesitant whether to buy it or not 😟
The turbo variant is way better
In the list of Peugeot 2008 Dacia Duster and the MG it would be the order I’ve put them in
Honest review 👍
How is the rust proofing heard there was issues in Australia of all places
You should try Dacia and then moan.
I had heard BYD have been having rust problems in Australia, I hadn't heard anything about MG.
MG ZS is in the class between Škoda Kamiq or Karoq.
And is worst then both
I guess if you must have a new car but this is your budget, then there aren't many options.
It is simple , manual transmition and practical for daily use
Unfortunfately , it is not sell in Indonesia
Mg are Rolls Royce vs Dacia if we compare interior of Dacia vs MG
Purchased 5 brand new MG ZS petrol 1.5l - recommend you to buy nissan or toyota or mistubishi or honda instead of spending on MG ZS- after 4 visits MG could not sold Oil leakage issue from engine top cover - UAE country cheif mechanic head it's normal issue " Oil Moisture". Will you accept this comment?
Dacia duster baby all day
You compare to Dacia Duster with price, but did Duster have a gasoline engine like this MG? And also the same with nissan qashqai who is a bigger car with bigger cargo. Can't compare the price on this cars to this MG
I've just had a one way hire car of this exact model. I completed about 500 miles in a three day hire. One of the worst I've driven. The engine is very unpowered and with only 5 gears it's terrible on the motorway revving way too high. The seats are just awful made of a material that reminds me of cars from the 80s that make your back sweat on a long trip.
It should be compared to the new Duster, not the old version
I have had two of these as rentals. The brakes are terrible: spongy, and you have to push way too hard to slow down. The accelerator is laggy, taking a second to respond, and then when you release it, it takes half a second to stop accelerating. The automatic gearbox is so slow. If I could choose to have infotainment from the 2000s over the shambles it has, I would. It’s laggy and unresponsive. The whole car is genuinely horrible.
Another cracking video review 👍🏾
Wish you all had the MG Marvel R for review.. it was out in China.. sporty Suv.
?
I had the misfortune of being given one as a hire car. 200 miles on the clock and the infotainment system failed during my drive to the airport. Not for me thanks.
Why comparing the MG to old Dacia, the duster has released a very renewed all new version this year. Weird or outdated comparison
@@ramyttsh I guess from their perspective the new Dacia Duster isn't on sale yet. The recent vids on TH-cam have all been non drives as well. So they can only compare this MG to the current old Dacia which is on sale now
@@robsmall6466 I see, but let's agree that they must have spread the awareness at least as a disclaimer for any buyer watching this video about the new Dacia coming soon, so they don't mess lead people
@@ramyttsh I agree. They should of said compared to the out going Dacia Duster that's soon to be replaced and we'll bring you a verdict on the new model later
Looking at this car makes me even more to buy Duster 3. Thanks for the good review. 🎉
It’s a nice car, however to be honest going up hill, power is not that great!
There are few MG cars on Chinese streets or roads. It seems like MG is not focusing on Chinese market.
Great car budget wise if you have a family.
As well! As well! as well!.
New 2024 Duster blows this out of the water
Peugeot 2008 is better than this ZS?
If the old Duster is nicer to drive than this, well, that says it all really.
It's a big if.
You might wonder why I didn’t go for the MG ZS EV. The main reason is parkability. My Renault Zoe has a much better vehicle to park in a small town like Broxbourne.
You obviously haven't used the 3d parking cameras on a zs ev.
If they made a self charging hybrid l would have purchased one, But they don't,So a purchase a Toyota Yaris Cross,
Botsford Knolls
Zs is a good package for the money and great interior. But it still looks unbalanced with the arches over the wheels (like a hippo with thin legs). Fifth gear also made this remark a few years ago. I just don’t understand why it’s been designed in this way - It looks odd. I personally prefer the Duster, it’s an awesome package and the new one is amazing.
It looks outdated and out of proportion with those small retracted wheels. Like they glued a SUV body on a VW up
High ground clearance for clearing obstacles, large body for more interior space, skinny tyres for fuel efficiency.
I thought about buying new one, but the fuel economy on the auto is shocking 😢
I choose Duster every day of the week :)
Garrison Loop
But it looks so ... generic ? Even the poor man spec version of said Duster looks muscular , off-roady even. It does look better inside but certainly not on the outside. Bland is the word i was looking for!
I'd rather buy a second hand Tucson or Sportage thanks but no thanks .
