So excited to be putting videos out more regularly again! Thanks for the comments, suggestions, likes and Subs! Part 2 Here: th-cam.com/video/MdOy-x6qcPY/w-d-xo.html
I agree Rachelle P I think that, Kid Gloves, maybe War Paint (not so good, but still teen-oriented IMO) but The Pass could have been the Adolescence Duology Part II. I believe Geddy and Neil and Alex said The Pass is one of their favorite compositions of all time (search net on this).
Rush was blessed to have one of the greatest bass players if not the greatest in Rock probably the greatest drummer ever and one of the most complex lyricists of all time. Not to mention a fabulous guitar player in Alex lifeson as well.
I am 50. I was introduced to Rush in junior high school thru this song. They understood me better then my parents teachers or any other adults at the time it seemed. At 50, I still think the same. I think the late Mr. Rogers said keep putting yourself in the age of those who you council. Dont "outgrow", or forget what it was like when YOU were that age.
The song after this on the Signals album is awesome. Analog kid. It just nails that tween wanderlust that I think all of us remember from that age, when you just want to escape and get on with life.
I was 18 when this album came out. I'm 58 now and love it just as much as I did then. Rush, especially this era, is the timeless old attraction! Favorite Rush albums: Moving Pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows.
Great reaction! Neil Peart was an incredible poet as well as drummer. He had that ability to take on some very deep subject matter and somehow keep it simple ,relateable and beautiful simultaniously. I hope youll do more 80s Rush...the stuff after this album, Signals, doesnt get anywhere near the attention it deserves. Its some of the bands best work both musically and lyrically and its filled with thoughtful songs like this. Try Middletown Dreams, Grand Designs, or Emotion Detector from Power Windows.(an album of songs relating to various manifistations of power. Also, an album that Alex Lifeson really liked contrary to popular belief. Signals is where he found himself compeating for frequency space with the keyboards) Or any number of songs from Hold Your Fire (As in hold on to your dreams...the theme of this album was human instinct). Grace Under Preasure and Presto are both great too. Anyway, Thanks and keep up the good work!
It’s been 38 years and this song still gives me goosebumps. Maybe because I grew up in the same subdivision and at the same time as Alex and Geddy did. We just happened to go to different high schools. I certainly do remember them from well before they ever got a record deal.
Love this song so much. Definitely one of the highlight tracks on Signals. If you want to hear another song with a similar sort of message and more synthy grooves, Id take a listen to Middletown Dreams off Power Windows!
Leigh Middletown Dreams is one of my favorite Rush tracks all time. Its deep track because Power Windows is not terrestrial "radio worthy" (who cares) but the same ideas of young angst and harmonies are just as strong.
Good to have you back !!!! Keep Rushing !!!! There is one band I would love you to react to. It's an other obscure Canadian band that really kicks ass. They are called : The Tea Party. Here are 3 songs for you to chose from to start it off : Fire in the head - Temptation - Sister Awake. So far, I've made the recommendation to a couple of other people reacting to Rush and there response was great and many viewers have commented that they want to hear more of that band so.... Now I offer it to you! The singer and guitarist crafted some of his instruments and he is a true genius. Please check them out !!!!!!
I am really enjoying watching your Rush journey. Your reactions are very true to heart and honest! I can sense how much this song touched you... looking forward to part 2.... Check out Losing it from the same album...the lyrics will likewise pique your musical soul.
This was the first Rush song I ever heard...early 80's...I was hooked. Hard to believe it was that long ago...and the music is just as fresh now as it was then.
Especially those of us who were in HS (and I supposed even middle school) when it came out. But I think this song speaks to everyone. Even kids who others thought were "popular" in school will eventually experience feeling like outcasts at some point in their lives, it's part of the human condition. How strongly the messages in this song resonate with each individual depends on that person.
Ahhh but the "Cast Out" always outnumbered the Cool, but most did not get it. I was a Cast Out, ran for Social Convenor, and my speech was one line long. Remember we out number the Cools, the Jocks, etc., so lets send them a message. Was up against the Oldest Daughter of the Speaker of the House in the Federal Government. Won in a landslide. The next year we ran a whole slate of Cast Outs, all repeated the same one Line, and swept the Election and made the school a Cast Out Zone. Damn was it fun, and RUSH played every lunch time in the Cafeteria.
Being a fan of them for decades I am aways ready to get more fans into the fold! Idk if you already got to the but a couple of live performances shall be in your radar; working man live in Cleveland, drum solo Frankfurt and yyz live here in Brazil (Rio) are a absolute bangers! Cheerio!
Not only is this the greatest song of all time, but there is so much more to this song than meets the eye. I personally know several people who have done their Ph.D. theses on RUSH and this song specifically. Aside from its OBVIOUS meaning (i.e. people who are not considered "cool" or "popular" being cast out from society), there is actually a "double meaning" to this song. The secondary meaning is the irony of people from the big city wanting to escape to where there is peace and quiet (i.e. the suburbs) yet the people from the suburbs want the "action" and want to go down to the big city to find it/experience it. Hence, we have subdivisions socially as well as geographically. It's almost the "flip side of the coin" kind of song. The more you listen to it, the more you appreciate its many, many layers and (as always) magnificent musicianship by the greatest band of all time. Not my opinion, but simply a fact of life.
Im a rush fan i have been since signals was released in 1982 all there music is great thanks for sharing there music especially with younger generations
Tim I’ve gotta let you know even before I watch this reaction video, that because of your reaction to Band Maid a couple of weeks ago, I am now a complete full on Band Maid fan. I absolutely love their music, and even though I’m not a very big Pop fan, just the small amount that’s in it, drives the music into a whole new direction for Heavy Hard Rock/Metal music. Cheers my friend. 😎
Lots of images from around Toronto in the video. Great video for the ages. But, RUSH is a dish best served live so I almost exclusively listen to live recordings of RUSH.
2112 A side is a must album wise; song wise Fly by Night, Sprit of Radio, and Freewill. I've always felt Rush, Queen, and Janes Addiction were in a different league and unique. Thanks for the content, I love the reviews and the fact that Tush is still exciting people.
Just dug through your vids after discovering you today, love the reactions and mainly your enjoyment of music and all it does for us. One suggestion, do a little background on the song that you're going to watch in the first few minutes. This not only helps you get into the mindset of the band, but also to help viewers understand.
Listen to Mystic Rhythms directly from the Power Windows album. Don’t go anywhere near the R30-40’s, you’ll want to hear Geddy’s voice at it’s best without having to force it. Always loved that song. 😎
Haken is a great rock band - they have great songs like Messiah Complex, Invasion, The Architect, Veil, Visions, Puzzle Box and more - if you love Dream Theater and Rush - you will LOVE Haken the band
Rush can provide you with almost anything except boredom. For more seriously thought provoking lyrics, do try out “Nobody’s Hero,” off of their “Counterparts” album. The studio album is on TH-cam as well as a few live ones. I recommend the 1997 live version from the Molson Amphitheater in Toronto. “Cold Fire” is another deeper cut from the same album and is in that same show. If you don’t care for those live songs, try the official videos.
Signals is the 3rd in a trilogy of albums that I would class as ,arguably, the best 3 consecutive albums ever released....by anyone. Permanent Waves , Moving Pictures and Signals were a big shift away from their 70's sound. Many fans didn't like it ( at first) but over the years these 3 albums would be classed as their 3 finest. You need to check out all 3 and react to Camera Eye , Limelight and Jacobs Ladder. But in truth u need to listen to Every track 😀
At this stage Alex is a little neutered which is a shame and probably hurt his status as a guitar God. But he still delivers great work, it's just harder to recognize.
Signals was the last great Rush album produced by Terry Brown and it sounds like it. I don't know what came over this trio to go get a Madonna or boyd george producer out of England who had never heard of Rush to come replace Terry? WTH? looking back that was a very stupid move by Rush. And I say that as a 40 long years fan of the band. Grace Under Pressure album didn't sound as good as Signals n was a dark album. They went down the hill but their genius saved them n again they shined on.... Thank you for posting n sharing your thoughts.
Looking at the Rush songs you've reacted to, and taking your comment about how Rush tells stories with their music, I think it's time for you to react to 2112. Good thing you have some time freed up, because it's over 20 minutes long! Everyone that reacts to it says it's the shortest 20 minutes of their life!
The part I liked in the video was when the cast out guy was sitting in the chair watching Rush alone. And here we are doing the same! Like him we are the cast outs... If we want to be the cooler kids in the car I suppose we need to watch the Smashing Pumpkins video for their song 1979. 😎
Don't take this wrong but I think you are missing the basic sound/meaning to what they are doing. Every note any of the three play is purposeful to the mood of the part of the song they are playing. Ted Nugent can jam as good as anyone but that is all he is doing is jamming. Love Ted's music even in Damn Yankees but it is not at the level of Alex. All three of them play every note matching the mood of the song they are playing. You not only hear the song but you can feel it too.
I remember listening to Signals fro the first time and I was horrified at the new direction. Most of what they put out from there to Roll the Bones was dreadful compared to what they had done up to Moving Pictures.
although its short, this is one of the coolest and most difficult to play solos by alex IMO. his hand is pretty much tweaking the whammy bar the entire solo. TONS of nuance and dynamics going on there.
So excited to be putting videos out more regularly again! Thanks for the comments, suggestions, likes and Subs! Part 2 Here: th-cam.com/video/MdOy-x6qcPY/w-d-xo.html
Give a listen to " The Weapon". Very deep lyrics. Enjoy
Awesome reaction. Glad to see you back at it!
This track from Rush was used in an anti bulling campaign ,superb musicians
Graduating in 1980 and already seeing RUSH live a couple times, this song really hits home with me.
One of their best songs. And the album is super strong top to bottom.
Even after all this time this song can stop me dead...
Same here, you just gotta turn up the volume.
100%....
Me too pal
This song's meaning will always be relevant with whatever time we're living in, thus making this song truly "Timeless."
I recommend the song from rush called The Pass very moving and meaningful.
Great choice!!

Easily my favorite Rush song in terms of lyrics. Peart was an amazing writer.
I miss his lyrics. His lyrics that addressed teen issues he continued to write as an adult meant a lot to me as a teen--and an adult.
love the Lifeson hair style!!!!! and classy bow tie!! SOOOOO GOOOOD
I love it, the smile on your face got bigger and bigger as the song played on. Great Job.
Saw them on the Signal tour. Best show ever.
The Weapon

You should check out the "Fear" series of songs that are scattered over four albums.
They are:
Witch Hunt
The Weapon
Enemy Within
Freeze
Take care ✌
Freeze is so underrated,too!
Right on. Thanks for sharing.
Love all of rush’s catalog but this is at the top for me...love it.cheers for reacting to this 👍🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I am really enjoying watching your Rush journey. Your reactions are very true to heart and honest! I can sense how much this song touched you... looking forward to part 2.... Check out Losing it from the same album...the lyrics will likewise pique your musical soul.
From the same album please react to the video The Weapon live in 1984 in Toronto (Grace Under Pressure Tour) ! Excellent music for musicians !
This was the first Rush song I ever heard...early 80's...I was hooked. Hard to believe it was that long ago...and the music is just as fresh now as it was then.
Its cool to see Younge st in the old days.
a song that defined so many who weren't considered cool
Especially those of us who were in HS (and I supposed even middle school) when it came out. But I think this song speaks to everyone. Headlong flight !!!!!! From their last album!!!!
been really enjoying your stuff man. keep it up. i'll tell ya side 2 of 2112 is awesome
Alex and the solo- and the windup/down!!
I lived in the city Neil wrote about. St Catharines Ontario Canada. Many GM plants there. We always drove to Toronto.
Being a fan of them for decades I am aways ready to get more fans into the fold! Idk if you already got to the but a couple of live performances shall be in your radar; working man live in Cleveland, drum solo Frankfurt and yyz live here in Brazil (Rio) are a absolute bangers! Cheerio!

Ahhh the Grass is Always Greener concept.
Im a rush fan i have been since signals was released in 1982 all there music is great thanks for sharing there music especially with younger generations
Brilliant ! 🙏🙏🙏
BEATIFUL SONG!!!!
I would recommend :
2112
Cygnus X-1 Book I
Freewill
The Garden
Thank you for your videos... from Paris (France)
I second *The Garden*. The solo gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. 🤟🏻

You turned it up. That's an upvote.
2112 A side is a must album wise; song wise Fly by Night, Sprit of Radio, and Freewill. I've always felt Rush, Queen, and Janes Addiction were in a different league and unique. Thanks for the content, I love the reviews and the fact that Tush is still exciting people.
I was 14-years old when this song was released. It played a major part in my being able to endure and tolerate high school and home life.
Wicked drums 🔥
Did anyone else notice the kid in the hall wearing a Rush tshirt?🎧👍🎶🎸
Just dug through your vids after discovering you today, love the reactions and mainly your enjoyment of music and all it does for us. One suggestion, do a little background on the song that you're going to watch in the first few minutes. This not only helps you get into the mindset of the band, but also to help viewers understand.
Genius song....Genius lyrics.
This is in my top 3 Rush songs easily. What a great song. You really have to check out Cygnus X-1 and Cygnus X-1 book 2: Hemispheres
Signals was the first Rush album recorded digitally.
I love how there's at least three layers of abstraction to the lyrics alone.
Great reaction.
I was telling people in 1981 they were so good and not many would listen. lol
Check out Rush's Distant Early Warning & Nobody's Hero.
The good old days. If you wanted too play a game you went to a arcade. That kid was playing tempest.
Ahhhhhh Tempest! (Man! I’m old)
Listen to Mystic Rhythms directly from the Power Windows album. Don’t go anywhere near the R30-40’s, you’ll want to hear Geddy’s voice at it’s best without having to force it. Always loved that song. 😎
This whole album is amazing, it kinda marked their transition to more "pop" songs with way more use of the keyboards and synths.
Check (and react to, please) The Weapon and Losing It. Level up!
I'm a simple man, I see Rush, I click.
It’s just a beauty eh 🇨🇦
Haken is a great rock band - they have great songs like Messiah Complex, Invasion, The Architect, Veil, Visions, Puzzle Box and more - if you love Dream Theater and Rush - you will LOVE Haken the band
Geddy's heavier use of the synth caused quite the rift in the band at one point. Read Neil's book... you'll love it.
Please do "Witch Hunt" by Rush!
Manhattan Project from the LP Power Windows is about exactly what the title implies. But with Neil's usual eloquence.
Largely my reaction at sixteen, year 1976.
EXPLORE!!
Every time I hear this song I can’t help but think of putting on the wing cap in Mario 64

as far as I know the video is from their home town ,Toronto..
Please check out " Thunder in Rock" by a Canadian Band by the name of FIST, from their album Fleet Street. Also check out the song Fleet Street
Every song from Signals is good. Check out Losing It, Countdown and The Analog Kid.
Try The Garden, they last song
RUSH - RED SECTOR A
At this stage Alex is a little neutered which is a shame and probably hurt his status as a guitar God. But he still delivers great work, it's just harder to recognize.

Vodka and orange juice!
Today is Neil Ellwood Peart's birthday. Rest in peace, Pratt....
Fuck , I miss Neil 😭😭😭
If you haven’t done it yet, I would recommend Working Man
From the Time Machine tour-around 2011? Yes please
"Working Man" by Rush (Time Machine Tour: Live In Cleveland)
If you haven't listen to more..let's hear some more The Warning!
I'd like to hear your reaction to something like KISS Tears are Falling, your comments from a guitarist standpoint. Thanks.
I love that track. Probably my favorite Kiss song. One of Paul’s best vocals.🤟🏻
The part I liked in the video was when the cast out guy was sitting in the chair watching Rush alone. And here we are doing the same! Like him we are the cast outs... If we want to be the cooler kids in the car I suppose we need to watch the Smashing Pumpkins video for their song 1979. 😎
Lol ya Niel run amuck😅
When you can , react to Rush - Red Sector A .. a song about Holocaust ..
if you want to see three guys that have the art mastered and can have fun watch this video th-cam.com/video/QuL_euRslTc/w-d-xo.html
About loners or misfits?... I think the video game was TRON.....
The video game was Tempest.
